However, a departure from the LDP is acceptable in this instance due to the poor condition of the site which does not achieve the objectives of the Green Belt or positively contribute to the character of the area. The site visit was undertaken on 9th November 2011. SITE DESCRIPTION The site, within the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, is a hillside at Murdieston Farm, approximately 450m to the south east of the Greenock Cut and 100m to the west of Old Largs Road. Old Largs Road and the Greenock Cut are each identified as Core Footpath Routes. The Greenock Cut is also a scheduled ancient monument. Whinhill Golf Course lies to the east of Old Largs Road. PROPOSAL It is proposed to construct two 15.6m high wind turbines. The total height to blade tip of the three bladed propellers is 22m. Three photo montages and wire diagrams have been submitted, indicating views from Old Largs Road, Greenock Town Centre and the Lyle Hill. The applicant has also submitted a statement in support of his proposal. LOCAL PLAN POLICIES Local Plan Policy UT6 - Renewable Energy Infrastructure In assessing proposals for renewable energy infrastructure, Inverclyde Council, as Planning Authority, will have regard to the impact on: (a) the natural environment and built heritage of the locality; (b) the landscape, particularly when viewed from major transport corridors; (c) residential amenity; (d) tourism and leisure resources, particularly if within the Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park; and (e) the operation of aircraft and telecommunications equipment. -

PROJECT Gourock-Dunoon Ferry Service: Feasibility Study of a Future Passenger and Vehicle Service with the Vehicle Portion being non-Subsidised Funding: National (United Kingdom) Duration: Nov 2012 - Jul 2013 Status: Complete with results Background & policy context: Until July 2011, Cowal Ferries operated a passenger and vehicle ferry service across the Firth of Clyde between Gourock and Dunoon town centres. Since then, the Argyll Ferries town centre service has carried foot-passengers only, the service being provided by two passenger ferries. The Gourock-Dunoon route is the busiest ferry crossing in Scotland and the two existing ferry services (Argyll Ferries and Western Ferries’ passenger and vehicle service) provide a key link between Cowal / Dunoon and the central belt. Objectives: In November 2012 MVA Consultancy, together with The Maritime Group (International) Limited, were commissioned by Transport Scotland to carry out a feasibility study on future ferry services between Dunoon and Gourock town centres. The overarching aim of the study was to determine the feasibility of a service with the vehicle-carrying portion of the service operating without subsidy and the passenger- carrying portion being subsidised in a manner compatible with EU law. Other funding sources: Transport Scotland Organisation: Transport Scotland Key Results: There are a range of key potential 'upside' aspects (eg lower vessel GT, pier & berthing dues reduced through negotiation, Western Ferries retrenchment) and 'downside' aspects (eg higher GT, higher crewing levels and competitive response from Western Ferries) which could affect the service and the balance of these would be crucial in determining the ultimate feasibility of the town centre passenger and vehicle service. -

In this paper we estimate such a relationship for Scotland and at the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics (NUTS) level 3 regions using a panel dataset. The main motivations behind this interest are twofold: first, to test whether such a relationship exists in Scotland and how different these estimates are from those produced for the UK. Second, whether there exist regional differences in the estimates. The latter is particularly important in the context of the current budgetary cuts, which may affect both GDP growth and unemployment in different ways rural and urban areas. Results indicate that the Okun’s coefficient for Scotland is slightly higher than the one computed for the UK (1.7 Scotland versus 1.39 and 1.45 for the UK), and although an Okun relationship seemed to be valid for most of the regions, there were no statistical differences between rural and urban areas. However, as regards the effect of economic growth on unemployment, the results indicate a different and stronger effect in urban areas than in rural areas. -

Therefore Scottish Natural Heritage and the Cairngorms National Park Authority commissioned a market research study to evaluate public perceptions of wild places amongst a representative cross-section of Scottish residents and a subset amongst those living within the boundaries of the Cairngorms National Park (CNP). The study identifies the level of support for wild places and whether the views of those who live within CNP match the population of Scotland as a whole. A total of 1,304 face to face interviews were conducted (1,004 across Scotland and 300 with residents of the CNP). -
