Please Note Photos Available Upon Request* Press Release Monday 16Th May 2016 French & Swedish Aerobatic Displays Set To *Please note photos available upon request* Press release Monday 16th May 2016 French & Swedish Aerobatic Displays Set to Dazzle at Bray Air Display Can the line-up for Bray Air Display 2016 get any better? Organisers of the hugely popular event have confirmed that display teams from France and Sweden have been added to the already impressive event line-up. They join the magnificent Red Arrows, Italy’s Frecce Tricolori, the heart-stopping Breitling Wingwalkers and our very own Irish Air Corp on a schedule to rival any international aerobatic display. All eyes will be on the skies over Bray on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July*. Four aerobatic display pilots from the Patrouille Tranchant aerobatic display team will fly French ‘Fouga’ aircraft at the two day event - the first time that this type of aircraft will be displayed in Ireland. Joining them will be a team representing the ‘Swedish Air Force Historic Flight’ flying ‘Viggen’ and ‘Draken’ aircraft - another first for the Bray Air Display. Se Pardy, event director said, “Bray Air Display 2016 is set to be our best event yet. We have been working really hard since last year to line up our most impressive event schedule to date and have succeeded in securing some of the world’s most remarkable teams to perform right here in Bray. It’s great to have so many ‘firsts’ on the bill for this year – including the Fouga from France, as well as the Viggen and Draken aircraft from Sweden. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming them to Bray.” “It is going to be an amazing show – a once in a lifetime really. You won’t want to miss it!” concluded Se. Mj (Ret) Stellan Andersson, Chief Flight Operations, SwAFHF said, “We are very much looking forward to flying in the Bray Air Display. We are bringing the Viggen and the Draken, our most powerful Swedish Air Force aircraft constructed by the SAAB Company. We will put on a fantastic display for spectators at Bray!” 2016 will be the 11th year of the Bray Air Display which will include a packed schedule of aerobatic display teams from across Ireland, the UK and Europe led by the acclaimed Irish Air Corp in this significant year of 1916 commemoration. The free, family event takes place thanks to the support of the Irish Aviation Authority, Wicklow County Council and Bray.ie. The Bray Air Display has been established as a hugely anticipated and popular event in the summer festival calendar attracting 90,000 spectators last year. Those planning to attend this year should use public transport for a stress-free journey and arrive early. The full event line up will be announced in the coming weeks. Technical Supplements S1 The IG JAS Investment In this Technical Supplement the JAS 39 Gripen product concept is outlined, the procurement process documented, the Industry Group IG JAS presented and the critical role of the competent public procurement agency, the FMV, highlighted. S1.1 The Procurement of the JAS 39 Gripen Aircraft with Swing-Role Capabilities The JAS 39 Gripen multirole combat aircraft (J stands for fighter, A for Attack and S for Surveillance/reconnaissance) is a fourth generation aircraft that entered operational service in 1997. It replaced the Viggen, the last of which was taken out of service in 2006. JAS 39 Gripen is a combat aircraft with swing-role capabilities that can change mission in flight. This swing-role capability was unique when Gripen was launched but has later been introduced on the French Rafale and the Eurofighter. Other competing multirole aircraft first have to land to reconfigure its information, guidance, and weapons systems for a new role. Gripen was the first “unstable” aircraft in the world which meant that in order for the aircraft to be stable at all speeds and in all maneuvers many more navigation surfaces are needed than the pilot can possibly control himself to minimize air friction at each moment. He needs incredibly sophisticated computer systems support to maneuver the aircraft effectively and safely. Competing fourth generation combat aircraft are F-35/JSF (the USA, not yet (2009) delivered to market), the Eurofighter Typhoon (the UK, etc.) and Rafale (Dassault, France). JAS 39 Gripen also competes with upgraded versions of the third generation aircraft of Lockheed Martin F-16 (the USA, first delivered in 1978), Boeing F/A18 Hornet (the USA, first delivered in 1983), Dassault Mirage 2000 (France, first delivered in 1983), and Mig-29 (the former Soviet Union, first delivered in 1977).

Military applications emerged fairly early in the infancy of aviation, in the form of first trials to establish the superiority of the third dimension over the battlefield. Well- known examples include the balloon reconnaissance efforts made in France even before the birth of the aircraft, and it was not long before the first generation of flimsy, underpowered aircraft were being tested in a military environment. The Italians used aircraft for reconnaissance missions at Tripoli in 1910-1912, and the Americans made their first attempts at taking air power to sea as early as 1910-1911.

  • Aircraft Tire Data
Aircraft tire Engineering Data Introduction Michelin manufactures a wide variety of sizes and types of tires to the exacting standards of the aircraft industry. The information included in this Data Book has been put together as an engineering and technical reference to support the users of Michelin tires. The data is, to the best of our knowledge, accurate and complete at the time of publication. To be as useful a reference tool as possible, we have chosen to include data on as many industry tire sizes as possible. Particular sizes may not be currently available from Michelin. It is advised that all critical data be verified with your Michelin representative prior to making final tire selections. The data contained herein should be used in conjunction with the various standards ; T&RA1, ETRTO2, MIL-PRF- 50413, AIR 8505 - A4 or with the airframer specifications or military design drawings. For those instances where a contradiction exists between T&RA and ETRTO, the T&RA standard has been referenced. In some cases, a tire is used for both civil and military applications. In most cases they follow the same standard. Where they do not, data for both tires are listed and identified. The aircraft application information provided in the tables is based on the most current information supplied by airframe manufacturers and/or contained in published documents. It is intended for use as general reference only. Your requirements may vary depending on the actual configuration of your aircraft. Accordingly, inquiries regarding specific models of aircraft should be directed to the applicable airframe manufacturer.

  • Saab-Väggen I Flygets Hus

Team 60 Swedish precision flying Text and photos by Emiel Sloot The Swedish air force’s demo formation Team 60 celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2006. With their six specially marked Sk 60 aircraft, instructors of the Krigsflygskolan at Linköping-Malmen put up a professional display. The 2006 team members Team history In 1974, the F5 training wing at Ljungbyhed started a display with two Saab 105 aircraft (locally designated Sk 60), adding another two the next year before the formation was expanded to six aircraft, with a first rehearsal in November 1975. Following approval of the Swedish air force commander early 1976, Team 60 – referring to the Sk 60 type designation – was officially established. The first demo was performed over Göteborg-Säve on 15 May 1976, and the first appearance abroad was over Skrydstrup, Denmark in 1980. Since then, Team 60 visited several air shows outside Sweden. During the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 1996 at RAF Fairford, the team won the Sir Douglas Bader Trophy for the best overall flying display. The 2006 anniversary season included a visit to the Czech International Air Fest at Brno. There were a few seasons without displays, though. During 1989 and 1990, no demos were flown due to lack of pilots, while the 1999 season was cancelled due to engine-related issues. Furthermore, Team 60 was forced to display with a reduced number of aircraft during some summers, mostly due to pilot shortage. However, from 2004 the team was back on full strength. Team 60 can put up three different displays, depending on the weather.
