Camberley Town F.C HARTLEY WINTNEY FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDED 1897 MEMBERS OF THE COMBINED COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE; SUBURBAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE; THE ALDERSHOT & DISTRICT FOOTBALL LEAGUE & THE SOUTHERN YOUTH LEAGUE. AFFILIATED TO THE HAMPSHIRE FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION Hartley Wintney Football Club was founded in 1897 and originally played in an area situated at Causeway Farm adjacent to the golf and cricket clubs, not too far from its present HQ. From stories told by the older members and from ancient records, it ap- pears that the village side competed and showed well against local opposition. The facilities were not, however, of the standards acceptable today. A horse trough or the pond was the only way to remove the heavy mud left from the sub-standard pitch. In 1953, the Club moved to its present ground in Green Lane, known as the Memorial Ground. A pavilion was erected and the team competed in the Basingstoke league be- fore joining the Aldershot league. In 1973, Glynn Howells was appointed manager and HWFC was put firmly on the local footballing map. In Glynn’s six year reign he steered the Club to three successive Aldershot Senior League titles and, on a night to remem- ber, to success in the Aldershot Senior Cup. In 1975, the facilities were upgraded, with a bar being incorporated in the pavilion. In 1978/79, after several seasons in the Aldershot League, Hartley joined the Combined Counties league. After the first couple of seasons in the CCL, the Club appointed Ian Bedford as manager and within the first three years of Ian’s reign, Hartley won the league title (season 82/83), Aldershot Senior Cup (80/81), and the George Allen Cup (81/82). They also finished runners-up in the league (80/81) and runners-up in the Al- dershot Senior Cup (81/82). During this period a new clubhouse was built and was opened by Peter Osgood. Ranked amongst the best facilities in the league, David Wil- loughby, the then secretary/treasurer, and Club President Bill Mitchell, devoted excep- tional hours in its embryonic stages. Since then the Club has installed floodlights and a 113 seater stand, and is indebted to the volunteer workers who keep the Club afloat. After promotion was won to the CCL Premier in 2007/08, 08/09 began poorly and ended in relegation by a narrow margin. Under a new management team of Pete Gray and John Condon the first team rallied, finishing 5th in CCL Div 1 in 09/10, and 7th in season 10/11 under manager Louis King after Pete Gray had stepped down. In 2011/12, under a new management duo of Neville Roach and Scott Tarr, Hartley reached the 3rd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, defeating Southern League Bashley and Bideford on the way, and secured promotion from Div 1 of the CCL. Upheaval fol- lowed when Roach and Tarr left for Thatcham Town, taking most of the players with them, and after a very poor start to the 2012/13 season, Hartley’s place in the CCL Pre- mier was only secured after a truly remarkable second half of the season thanks to the new squad assembled by manager Ben Dillon and assistant Jason Minton. • THE AMATEUR ERA (1897-1907) The
THE AMATEUR ERA (1897-1907) The founding of the club was the idea of Ralph Cole, a benefactor who was interested in the welfare of the local lads. The club, like many others, originally centred on a church; in this instance St Luke's Mission Church at the junction of Boulogne Road and Princess Road in Croydon. The inaugural meeting of the club was held in 1897 and it was attended by the above mentioned Ralph Cole together with H. Taylor, F. Worsfold Smith, Frank Chick, George Stockdale and A. Everett. The name of the club was chosen for the simple reason that St Luke's Mission was sited on ground that once formed part of what had been Croydon Common in earlier times. It was decided that the club would play in colours of gold and dark blue, although the next year saw a change to claret and white. George Stockdale was chosen as the club's first captain, with Frank Chick the club's first vice-captain. The club officials were Rev. C.A. Curgenven (Assistant Curate at Holy Saviour Church, to which St Luke's Mission was affiliated) as president and the above mentioned Frank Worsfold Smith as the honorary secretary. The fact that George Stockdale would have only been fourteen years old at the time evidences that this was very much a club for boys. This is the version of events set out in the club's handbook for the 1909-10 season, but contemporary records give cause to doubt the accuracy of this version. Firstly, the Holy Saviour parish magazines for 1897 make no mention of the club, nor do those of the years following.

/margatefootballclub /margate_fc /margate_fc GATE TV www.margate-fc.com #TimeForHeroes Tuesday 8th October 2019 MARGATE FC v LEATHERHEAD FC Kick Off—7:45pm 2 Welcome It has only been a couple of days since Jay and the players pulled off another emphatic win in the Emirates FA Cup beating Salisbury FC 4-2 in their back yard to add our name to the 4th round draw. Celebrations ran long into the night for the travelling Gate supporters and even the players managed to unwind for a couple of hours on the coach ride back to Kent. But now our attention turns back to the BetVictor Isthmian Premier league, and the visit of tonight’s opponents, Leatherhead. We found out yesterday that our opponents in the 4th Qualifying Rd will be Oxford City, with the Gate travelling to Court Place Farm on Saturday 19th October. Full details will follow in due course as we continue our adventure in the Emirates FA Cup. The fixture list is heavily congested in October and we haven’t even added in the FA Trophy yet, but the players, buoyed from the FA Cup win, the addition of centre back George Essuman and key players returning from injury, are ready for the challenge of Nikki Bull’s Leatherhead side who recorded a much needed 3-0 victory over Cheshunt on Saturday, lifting them out of the relegation zone. Following that we head to White Heart Lane to play the lesser known but in better form local club Haringey Borough, they also recorded a victory (1-0 v Cray) on Saturday and will prove another stern test for Jay and his young charges.

3 CHERRY RED RECORDS | COMBINED COUNTIES LEAGUE | PREMIER DIVISION 2019-20 Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Knights Community Stadium for this evenings Specsaver Surrey Senior Cup 1st Round tie. We would like to welcome tonights opponents Westfield FC and hope their players, sup- porters and officials enjoy their stay with us this evening. We would also like to welcome this evenings match officials, referee Mr Shaun Farrer and his assistants Mr Karl Parker and Mr Calum Edgcombe, and we hope they also enjoy their stay with us this evening. First up, an apology, due to being swamped at work this is only a small, online only pro- gramme. It is not something we like doing, or want to do as a regular thing, but at the mo- ment, it is the best we can do. Also doesn’t help doing a load of work, and then then having it not saving!! After the thrills of Saturday’s win over Lancing, where a Phil Page goal propelled us into the Fourth Round of the FA Vase and a new years trip to Christchurch (Dorset, not the largest city on the South island of New Zealand, although that would be fun), we are back in cup action. Over the years the Surrey Senior Cup has not been good to us, with recent defeats against Sutton Utd 2-0, and prior to that penalty shoot out losses to both Epsom & Ewell and Dorking Wanderers. Westfield are having another good season in the BetVictor South Cen- tral division, and currently lie in 6th position, and looking good for an- other tilt at promotion.
