  • How to Make Automotive Wax
How to Make Automotive Wax Written by Lance Winslow How to make Wax Today bee's wax is sometimes used in Automobile waxes but normally it is most used in furniture wax and polishes. You can make your own wax very easily, my ancestors did on the plantation on Cape Cod, it is a relatively simple process and fun too. First you need a couple of pots to boil in and a pot of hot water. Liquid Beeswax furniture polish is simple, use one quarter cup of ivory soap, one quarter pound of beeswax, 1 cup of turpentine and half a cup of water. Dissolve the soap in hot water, put the shaved wax into the turpentine and then slowly melt together, then pour the soap mixture into the mix and stir with a wooden spoon, once well stirred pour it into a glass jar and you have it, very easy. Bees wax cream furniture polish which can also be used on cars with lessened amount of turpentine is made by using and mixing quarter lb of beeswax, 2 cups of turpentine, quarter cup of liquid Ivory soap, 1 cup of warm to boiling water and quarter cup of pine oil. The only difference it you have to make sure all the beeswax is dissolved first and cool then mix it into the warm soapy water until it congeals and then reheat together and dissolve. If you reduce the turpentine content you can use it on your car too. It goes on smooth and it works good. Although, I am partial to Carnauba wax for cars for it's ease of use, but from a realistic standpoint of protection the carnauba only lasts three months while the beeswax melt might last slightly longer.

Received: 17 June 2020; Accepted: 20 July 2020; Published: 24 July 2020 Abstract: Liquid food adhesion on containers has increased food waste and pollution, which could be effectively alleviated with a superhydrophobic surface. In this research, the superhydrophobic coating was fabricated with edible soybean wax on different substrates by a spraying method. The coated surface showed excellent superhydrophobicity due to its microstructure formed by self-roughening, which could repel a variety of viscous liquid food with the apparent contact angle of 159 2 . ± ◦ The coated surface was still liquid-repellent after hot water immersion (45 ◦C), abrasion test with sandpaper, water impact, finger touch and immersion into yogurt. The liquid-repellent coating with soybean wax, which is natural and green, is promising for application in the food industry to reduce waste. Keywords: non-wettable coating; edible; soybean wax; residue 1. Introduction With the development of the economy, people’s living standards improved, especially in food demand. In daily life, viscous liquid food (such as yogurt, honey, milk, coffee, et al.) residue remain adhering to the container after drinking, which has given us a great deal of inconvenience and resulted in huge waste (up to 15% of liquid food products) [1].

Abstract: Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is a polymer that has attracted the attention of researchers due to its unique properties such as transparency, biocompatibility, high flexibility, and physical and chemical stability. In addition, PDMS modification and combination with other materials can expand its range of applications. For instance, the ability to perform superhydrophobic coating allows for the manufacture of lenses. However, many of these processes are complex and expensive. • Technical Advisory Panel Report (2002) (PDF)
Orange Shellac (unbleached) Processing 1 Executive Summary 2 3 Shellac is derived from the hardened secretion of the lac insect, Laccifer (Tachardia) lacca . These are scale-like insects 4 feeding on resiniferous trees and bushes cultivated in India and southeast Asia. The resin is secreted as a covering for 5 the insect larvae. The lac is collected from host trees by cutting branches containing resinous insects, and grinding and 6 further processing. Processing involves various steps, including melting, screening, filtering, and can involve solvent 7 extraction and de-colorising with activated charcoal. 8 9 The petitioned use is as a component of fruit and vegetable coatings, and as a coating agent for pharmaceuticals and 10 confectionery products. The purpose cited is for forming a film on the coated product, improving cosmetic appearance, and 11 providing moisture and atmospheric protection. 12 13 The NOSB considered shellac as part of a Technical Advisory Panel review for Waxes in September, 1999. The 14 NOSB voted that shellac was synthetic, and recommended not to add it to the National List. The review at that time 15 did not distinguish between bleached or unbleached forms of shellac The TAP reviewers found that orange 16 unbleached shellac is derived from natural sources, though one considered that the materials used in manufacturing 17 rendered the substance synthetic and not compatible with organic standards. A second reviewer found that the uses 18 of the material to extend shelf life, reduce water loss, and improve cosmetic appeal are not compatible with organic 19 principles. The third reviewer found the material suitable for organic use, though expressed some concerns that 20 consumers should be informed that products have shellac coatings applied, especially since there are some reports of 21 allergenicity.

Accepted 17 October, 2012 This work describes the chemical and micro-structural characterization of candelilla ( Euphorbia antisyphilitica Zucc) plant which produces a natural edible wax. Chemical composition analysis included total fat, protein, crude fiber, dry material, moisture, ashes, total of reducing sugars, hydrolysable and condensed polyphenols contents. Micro-structural characterization was made using Environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM). Results demonstrated that contains a high level of lipids (15.9%), crude fiber (9%) and is a source of ellagic acid (2.2 µg/g). Candelilla wax is deposited in the external side of the stems surrounding fibers thus forming resistant structure. This is important for the development of novel methods for extraction, use and potential applications. Key words: Euphorbia antisyphilitica Zucc, microscopy, condensed and total polyphenols, candelilla wax. INTRODUCTION The candelilla wax is a complex substance of plant origin, (Coahuila and Chihuahua). To yield economical amounts insoluble in water, but highly soluble in acetone, chloro- of waxes, a desert-like climate is a required condition form, benzene and other organic solvents.
