Like the region it calls home, Pitt football under Pat Narduzzi has proven to be rugged, relentless and on the rise. Upon his hiring on December 26, 2014, Narduzzi pledged his Panthers would “play with a tough, blue-collar mentality—and how else would you want it in the City of ?” Promise kept. The sixth-year head coach has made an emphatic imprint on Pitt football. His vision for the Panthers—on and off the field—continues to bear fruit with each passing season. Perhaps the 2019 Panthers best embodied the tough and tenacious qualities that are now part of the program’s DNA. Fielding a lineup rife with new starters, Pitt went on to achieve its third eight-win season under Narduzzi, capped by a victory in the Quick Lane Bowl. Entering his fourth season on Pat Narduzzi’s Pitt staff, Charlie Partridge is a tremendous asset with his experience as an FBS head coach, accomplished assistant and renowned recruiter. Reflective of his invaluable contributions, Partridge was elevated to assistant head coach by Narduzzi prior to the 2018 season. Partridge’s positional focus is the defensive front, a unit that played at a dominant level in 2019 and helped the Panthers lead the country in sacks (3.92 per game) and rank 15th nationally in total defense (312.9 yards per game). Tackle Jaylen Twyman was named an All-American by no fewer than six different outlets after compiling a team-high 10.5 sacks. Twyman became the first interior defensive lineman to lead Pitt in sacks since Aaron Donald (11) in 2013. Rob Harley enters his sixth season as linebackers coach at Pitt. He additionally is entering his fourth year as the Panthers’ recruiting coordinator. Having spent more than three decades in collegiate coaching, Tim Salem boasts experience that is both extensive and diverse. Salem has served as offensive coordinator at four different schools and coached four different positions on that side of the ball. Entering his sixth season as Pitt’s tight ends coach, Salem’s broad perspective is a great asset on the field and in recruiting. Under Salem’s watch, Scott Orndoff enjoyed one of the most productive seasons ever by a Pitt tight end in 2016, compiling 35 catches for 579 yards (16.5 avg.) and five touchdowns. Ford arrived in Pittsburgh with extensive operations experience and familiarity with the Atlantic Coast Conference. Prior to his appointment with the Panthers, he served on the football staff at Wake Forest for four years (2015-18). During the 2018 season, Ford was the Demon Deacons’ associate director of football operations. His initial three years, he was an operations and video assistant.
