APRIL, 1972 3 Alumni Association Council Nominates Candidates The Alumni Council Board of Management has nominated eight candidates for a three-year term on the Alumni Council. Ballots will be mailed to all members of the Augustana Alumni Association on April 26 and must be returned by May 25. Announcement of the election results will be made on Alumni Day. 1934 Einar Svarvari Einar Svarvari, principal at Lowell School, Sioux Falls, will be retiring from his position duly 1. Svarvari joined the Sioux Falls school system in 1954 and moved to Lowell as principal in 1956. He began teaching in 1928. 1936 Harvey Eitreim Harvey Eitreim, Luverne, Minn., has received the Luverne Jaycee Distinguished Service Award for Francis Smith his service activities covering a broad area in the community. Francis Smith is being presented by the Sioux Falls Elks Lodge as a candidate for grand exalted ruler of the national organization. The election will take place at the national convention to be held in Atlantic City in July. Mrs. Smith is the former Loretta Howe '35.

1940 CLASS AGENT—Mrs. F. Allen Bresee (Marie Storsteen) Edwin Elkins Edwin Elkins is a guidance counselor in Multi-District Vocational School in Watertown, S. Dak., serving twelve high schools in the Watertown area. 1942 CLASS AGENT—Dr. Robert Haakenson Dr. Robert Haakenson Dr. Robert Haakenson presided over the economic development up-date conference on March 8, 1972, at Harrisburg, Pa. He is currently serving as the director of the Pennsylvania Bureau of Economic Development. Mrs. Haakenson is the former Margaret Blatherwick '42. 1943 Harriet Johnson McClintick Harriet Johnson McClintick and her husband live in St. Paul, Minn., where Mr. McClintick is division vice-president of Printing Products 3M. Mrs. McClintick teaches piano and is active in Luther Memorial Church. The McClinticks have three sons, Allen, USN officer; Tom, pharmacy student; and Bruce, a high school junior. Col. Warren Johnson, USAF, and his wife (Bernice Carter '45) live "on post." at Fort . Sheridan, Ill. Col. Johnson's new assignment is a travelling one with the Management Evaluation Group. . 1945 Col. Warren Johnson Fred Jelsema Fred Jelsema is director of the Trans-Mississippi Philatelic Society, Inc., and was recently elected Master of his Masonic Lodge at Rapid City, S. Dak. He was in Bloomington, Ill., this past summer to present his paper on "Masonic Philately" for final competition and received a bronze medallion. He has been selected as one of the accredited lecturers in this field.

Dr. James McBath is a co-editor of a new book, "British Public Addresses 1828-1960" published by Houghton Mifflin. Robert Manthe was named Director of Development, effective April 1, at Drake University, Des Moines, Ia. His duties include the coordination of all University fund raising programs. He is director of the alumni phase of the University's Centennial Development Program as well as the parents and corporate relations activities. 1969 Gary Vangen has taken over as one of two assistant program directors at the Central branch YMCA Gary Vangen in Cedar Rapids, Ia. He is responsible for all non-aquatic youth programming at the Central Y and shares responsibility for coordination and promotion of all youth department activities. Gary Schaefer appeared on national television during the University of Oregon and UCLA football game. He directed the University of Oregon Pep Band. Schaefer is a graduate student in music at Oregon Pamela Smithlin Graham University. Pamela Smithlin Graham is teaching kindergarten at All Saints School in Sioux Falls. She is also employed as a model and appears on local television commercials and in various publicity ads.

She plans to begin work on her degree in Brussels, Belgium, in Dale Pommer September. Dale Pommer received his M.A. in psychology from the University of Arizona on September 1, 1971. Tucked away in a quiet forest, the El Camino Pines camp serves all age groups from churches in the great southern California area. The Rev.
