______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 3 Season 2017-18

President’s Report As I say every year, the club is going better than ever, and you only have to look at our 2017-18 statistics to agree! This season, we had twice as many teams as some rival clubs combined, which speaks volumes for our proud club. 11 junior teams, 2 senior teams, 5 semi finalists, 2 runners up and our U11s and U12s were the 2017-18 BDCA premiers!! Firstly, congratulations to Peter Fitzgerald and Tim Croft's U11s for winning their first premiership after falling one short last season. Then, the Paul and Kelli Forrester coached U12s went back-to-back premiers, beating a team that has not lost a game in 2 seasons! Congratulations to the other semi-finalists and finalists that fought bravely and just fell short of premierships. Special mention goes to our B Grade team for making BOTH the one-day and two- day Grand Finals. With all this talent on show, it’s not surprising that again, we had many representative players - Under 11 Creak Shield - Matthew Fitzgerald, Luca Croft, Patrick Forrester, Lachlan Burke, Baha Dadarkar, Joshua Agius and Harrison Divan. Under 12 Cawsey Shield - Joshua Trevitt, Daniel Louka, Thomas Forrester and Cooper Sutton. Under 13 Gee Shield - Ethan Nennas Under 14 Moore Shield - Arash Basnet and James Apostolakis. Under 15 Weblin Shield - Tom Tiberti. Congratulations to you all. The great news, that has just been announced, is that Saints Cricket are B.D.C.A. Junior Club Champions for 2017-18 and for the second year running!! Congratulations to you all. Our 2 social events this year were our Comedy for a Cause night fundraiser and our annual Jack Jarrett Shield. The Comedy Night, well, what can I say, I thought numbers could have been slightly better, however, for those who attended...... Wow!! It was absolutely hilarious! 4 outstanding comedians and 1 Kiwi in the front row, who in his own mind, thought he was funnier! A real side splitting night. A very big thank you to Laura Agius for getting the night up and running and, if we have it again next season, do yourselves a favour and don't miss it. The Jack Jarrett Shield is gaining more momentum every year! In non-favourable conditions we still managed to get quite a number of teams together for the fight for the title. The Final was played in the worst conditions of the day, and Paul Forrester’s team came up trumps despite being underdogs. I think he enjoys the tag just quietly. Of course, it was great to see Dave Jarrett there – it’s always great to have him around the club. A huge thank you to Tracey Wise for organising the jumping castles and the BBQ-ers on the day! Unfortunately, due to poor conditions the President vs Secretary's game was abandoned. We all know what the result would have been, so I have engraved the shield anyway. This season, at our AGM, we elected unanimously our newest Life Member to the Club, Peter Goodrick. Peter, as I have no doubt you all know, has been with the club for many years as a Father, Coach/Manager and Publicity Officer. He typifies what St Christopher's Cricket Club is all about. His passion is second to none when it comes to our success and is thoroughly worthy of the prestige of Life Member. Congratulations Peter Goodrick. Thank you once again to Andrew Divan for being the drive of the club. The Club Secretary's position is paramount to the success and efficiency of all clubs, and I believe we have the best, even if he's from across the ditch! Thank you to our beloved Treasurer and MyCricket guru, John Grealy. This year John also took on a coaching role after being in retirement for a season or so. No doubt, opposition coaches were just as glad to have him back as much as we did. Paul Collins our Vice President and BDCA delegate, spends most of our committee meetings complaining the he has to go to BDCA meetings, However, I think it's all about having a beer with Andrew Divan on a Monday night. I think there is a little bro-mance happening! Thank you Paul.

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 4 Season 2017-18

Mitch Wise stepped into the big shoes of Brett Court as our Gear Steward this season and, in my opinion, did an excellent job making sure our kits are well stocked and match balls on hand on the day. Great effort Mitch, thank you. This year Kerry Russell joined our committee as Assistant Secretary and did a fantastic job. No doubt Andy enjoyed having her share the work load. Kerry also coached 2 teams, which is just outstanding, and teamed with Laura in bringing us the Comedy Night. A big thank you. Thank you Laura Agius for being the backbone of our social committee. As stated before, the 2 social events we had were fantastic and your work and input at meetings is invaluable. Peter Goodrick, as outlined before, your work load and passion is inspirational and the club information, social media and newsletters are the best in the business. I cannot thank you enough! To the Coaches and Managers, Parents, Players and helpers, you are all the reason why we continue to be on a committee, as you all make running a club satisfying indeed. We are where we are today because of you all and I am an extremely proud President. Congratulations all on a wonderful season.

Yours in Sport John Clay President

Thank you for your fantastic support. We also appreciate the support of our other long-term sponsors and more recent sponsors. Abela Building Maintenance, Bisaro’s Pharmacy, Mike Hughes & Partners, Gear Box Factory, Barber Crew, Saltwater Seafoods, Aussie and we welcome our latest sponsor Charlie’s Liquor Barn……we can’t get our teams on the field each week without your support! The relationships we have formed with our sponsors are highly valued by our club and we look forward to continuing these relationships well into the future. Thank you for your support and we encourage all club members to support our sponsors.

Saints Cricket Registration Days This season we were again able to boost our overall player numbers from last year through the hard work of parents and the committee. We fielded teams in every age group and are especially proud to have 5 teams in the new Under 9 & Under 10 Cricket Australia Stage 1 format. This new format encourages fun and participation and we hope to see all these players progress with Saints Cricket in the coming seasons. We get out to all schools in the district, post information on social media and advertise widely, firstly looking to get people interested in cricket and then to register with Saints Cricket. Last season we became the first club in the BDCA to also take online registrations using the Cricket NSW ‘Play Cricket’ website. This season we made further improvements and we now receive the bulk of our registrations via the online process. We expect this to further improve next season and are planning to take nearly all of our registrations, and payments, online…… still being the leader amongst BDCA clubs ! We know that the best way to generate interest in cricket and attract new players is through word-of-mouth. So please don’t be shy in letting people know that Saints Cricket is a great family club and the best club to register with in the BDCA !

Welcome Sausage Sizzle Each season we love to welcome all our players and families, especially those families new to Saints Cricket, with an early-season sausage sizzle down at Panania Diggers. We believe that we are a great family club and are always looking for ways to build club morale and get as many of our families as possible involved in our club functions. The Welcome Sausage Sizzle is a great way to meet your new team mates and families in a social environment. Thank you to all the families that came down to Panania Diggers on Saturday 15 October. It was especially pleasing to see so many of our new families attend. Special thanks also to Panania Diggers for their support of this event.

Pink Stumps Day The McGrath Foundation is a fantastic cause and Saints Cricket is very proud to have been raising much needed funds through our involvement with Pink Stumps Day since it was introduced in 2011. On Saturday 17 February we teamed up with Revesby Heights Hornets to hold a combined fundraising event. The Under 12 and Under 14 teams from both clubs provided the entertaining cricket on the field while parents served up a feast, working hard on the BBQ, cake stall, selling raffle tickets and pink merchandise. As well as getting into the pink spirit and raising funds on the day, the clubs also raised further donations at club events. On the day, we raised $3,500 for the McGrath Foundation. A big thanks to the U12s and Under 14s players, parents and supporters for getting into the spirit and donating generously. Thank you to the umpires who donated their fees to the cause. Also, a special thanks to Michael Sleiman from Daystar First National Real Estate. Michael has been our major sponsor for several seasons and kindly donated $1,000 on the day.

Club Junior Coaching Clinic The club coaching clinics have been a big success over the last few seasons and this season was no different. Each season we invite guest coaches to attend and pass on their knowledge, experience and skills. The clinics definitely help to improve the cricket skills within the club and also help to develop more camaraderie and club spirit amongst the players! This season, we invited Katie Mack to attend and she was a big hit, passing on her tips and advice learnt from playing many levels of rep cricket. Katie is a former Saints Cricket junior, BDCA cricket rep, NSW U18 rep, played Senior cricket with Bankstown, Northern Districts, ACT & Melbourne, an ACT rep player, Cricket Aust XI player and currently plays WBBL for the . We were also fortunate to have Karina Klem, throwing coach extraordinaire, putting the kids through their paces. A big thanks also to the other coaches and parents who helped on the day. Another great day and we look forward to future successful clinics.

Super 8s Tournament - Jack Jarrett Shield What a day at Vale of Ah! The weather gods really tested our commitment but we still had 10 teams lined up and ready on the day. The Super 8s has really turned out to be one of our major club events each year as we get parents, kids, friends and supporters involved in a day full of fun, skill (?), club spirit and a bit of sledging on the side. This is a day for everyone in the club. The jumping castles kept the younger kids entertained, the mobile coffee van supplied the Sunday morning fix for parents, the BBQ was fired up all day and the players provided the entertainment on the field. Teams included the returning ‘Tradies Get the Ladies’ (still to be confirmed if this is true !), ‘Six Appeal’, ‘Victorious Secret’, and ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’. But it was the Paul Forrester coached ‘Class on Grass’ team that mastered the challenging conditions in the final to take out the coveted Jack Jarrett Shield, named in honour of our recently departed former Saints junior player who sadly passed away at age 17. As always, it was great to see Dave Jarrett, Jack’s Dad and former club committeeman, there on the day to present the shield. A huge thanks to everyone involved in organising the day…..it doesn’t happen without a lot of planning and effort. Already looking forward to next year’s tournament !

Comedy Night We hope you didn’t miss the sensational Comedy Night at Diggers on Saturday 17 February. Club parents, supporters & friends enjoyed an outstanding night of comedy that had the crowd buzzing. The four comedians put on an hilarious show that had the crowd fully engaged and wanting more. We even involved an unwitting birthday group in the bistro area who enjoyed the attention. The comedians were also very good at picking out an unsuspecting ‘easy target’ in the audience, who was obviously keen to be part of the show and did all that he could to embarrass himself….without needing any assistance from the comedians. These are great events for the club, not just as a fundraiser, but as a chance to catch-up with all the parents and supporters across the club. If you couldn’t make it, you missed a memorable event. Thanks to all that attended and made it such a special night. Special thanks to Laura for doing an enormous job in organising the event.

MINIS WHITE - DIVISION 2

Front Row L-R - Amelia Foster, Kobe Lyons, Hudson Anderson, Shaurya Basu, Caleb Punwani, Zachariah Eid Absent - Leo Karanfilovski

Coach - Shayne Foster Manager - Jacqueline Eid

This was the first season for a couple of the players in our team. However, they took it in their stride and were eager and pretty competitive wanting to know what the score was and how well they played as soon as they got off the field. Special thanks to Kerry for training the boys every week and only missing a couple of sessions due to her very demanding full time job. Also thanks to Mathew and Shayne for stepping in and being on field with the kids during the game. I want to thank the parents for their support and coming to the game week in and out despite the awful flies at the Vale of Ah ground and the lack of commitment from the other teams during the first few weeks. These kids are so well behaved and so respectful, it was lovely seeing them every week. You have done a great job with them. The kids played very well each week and you could see them getting better and better, growing a love for the game. We had a number of close games throughout the year, but also had a few good wins which you could see lifted their spirits. It’s about building their confidence and love for the game which was great to see. I hope that the kids continue this in everything that they do and hopefully are here again next season.

Jacquie Eid Manager

A special thank you to Jacquie & Marcel for their outstanding work…...from all the parents ! ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 14 Season 2017-18

Meet the Players

Hudson Anderson Hudson was our little pocket rocket who would run as fast as his legs could carry him during his batting but where he showed great talent was with his bowling. Hudson bowled a number of maiden overs during the season and you could tell he was spending some time in the yard practising and watching his older brother. Thanks for trying your best and keep up the good work Hudson!

Shaurya Basu Shaurya was away for the first half of the season, but when he joined it was like he was always there and a great member of the team. So enthusiastic, friendly and energetic with the loveliest smile, Shaurya was always eager to bat first, ready to go and would be the first on the field during taking his position. Super competitive wanting to know if they won, I hope Shaurya takes this approach in everything in life.

Kobe Lyons Being a good 3 years younger than some of the team members did not stop Kobe from getting out there and taking it all in his stride. Seeing Kobe run on the pitch was too cute with those little legs going as fast as they could. It was Kobe’s first season of cricket, and it was good to see him and the other kids get on well on the sidelines when it was our turn to bat. Well done Kobe, hope we see you in the game again next year.

Leo Karanfilovski When on the field, Leo would ensure that the were always his aim, especially when being wicketkeeper to do his best to ensure that no additional runs made. Shy and reserved when he would first arrive, Leo would warm up and show his enthusiasm to the game and his teammates. The smile on his face when hearing they won the game was epic. He would listen to either Shayne or Mathew in regards to his bowling technique, doing his best in every game. It was a pleasure to meet Leo and we hope to have you as a part of the team next year!

Amelia Foster Amelia was a quiet achiever of the season and seeing her set herself up on a chair with her bento box on her lap like a little lady before the game started was a sight to behold. Amelia’s ability and skills grew as each week went by and by the end of the season you could see a marked change. With her Dad Shayne being a great support to the team and being on the field, you could tell that he has been a great encouragement to her. Her bowling technique and her alertness when batting very well improved. Well done Millie !

Caleb Punwani Caleb was one half of the best batting duo our team had. Scoring an average of 35 runs in his duo with Zach each game, Caleb is a very respectful and well behaved young man. In addition to his great batting, when concentrating bowled some pretty good overs. Caleb and his Dad Mat were always on time and also helped in packing up the field every game. Thanks for doing your very best and we hope to see you next year Caleb!

Zachariah Eid Zach is the other half of the batting duo with Caleb and has great strength and swing in his bat. Belting the ball a couple of 4’s and 6’s this season was great to see. He can bowl well when he puts his mind to it, but enjoys the batting part of the game much more. Despite this he kept focus and always gave great chase when fielding. He and Caleb had great communication on the batting pitch to ensure that there were no mistakes made to maximise their runs. Well done and great effort Zach!

MINIS GOLD - DIVISION 1

Back Row L-R - Jake Cutting, Billy Sullivan, Campbell Whitney, Patrick Thompson Front Row L-R - Lachlan Mortimer, Alexander Weightman, Blake Murphy

Coach - Kerry Russell

As the newly formed Minis Div 1 Gold, we started the season on a high with a couple of great wins! The rest of the season was defined by the fun the boys obviously had playing cricket, and playing together as a team. A few wins, a few losses. It didn’t seem to matter much either way because the boys were obviously just having fun. The boys, a lot of whom did not know each other at the start of the season, played well together, supporting and encouraging each other to do their best. They approached each game competitively, calling for the ball at the stumps and offering each other bowling and batting tips. They also played all of the games in a calm and respectful manner which was fantastic to see from such young players. I thoroughly enjoyed the season, watching the boys approach each game and training session with enthusiasm, having fun along the way, and improving a little each and every week. They are a great bunch of kids and I was very proud of the way they played and conducted themselves. A big thanks to all of the team parents as well. Your support and commitment each and every week, and your polite and respectful kids made this another great season. A special thanks to Kylee, Matt, and Andrew who carried the lion’s share of the scoring duties during the season. I hope to see you all back again next season.

Kerry Russell Coach ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 16 Season 2017-18

Meet the Players

Alexander Weightman Alexander’s second season saw him put to use some of the great new skills he picked up last season. Speedy between the wickets, Alexander was always on the lookout for a quick run and scored consistently well during the season. Alexander lacks a little confidence with bowling but he shouldn’t! He bowled well throughout and with a little more practice will continue to do very well. Great to see you back. Keep at it Alexander!

Billy Sullivan Newcomer to the team Billy smashed 27 in his first game! A great start to the season and a great achievement! With his big bat, big swing and swift run-taking Billy impressed in every game, finishing the season with 109 runs. Well done Billy! Hope to see you again next year.

Blake Murphy One of our young rookies, Blake always had a friendly greeting for the coach and his team. Whether he was batting, bowling or fielding, Blake was always doing his best, listening carefully and trying different techniques. One of his favourite fielding techniques was enthusiastically sliding after any ball that came his way. His whites often ended up a dark shade of green by the end of the match! It was great to have Blake on the team and to see him steadily gain confidence and improve in all areas during the season. Great work Blake!

Campbell Whitney Campbell was one of our quiet achievers this season. Quiet and respectful, Campbell’s experience from past seasons shone through with him putting in a solid all round performance. Very handy with the bat, Campbell scored runs every game. As the season progressed the boundary ropes appeared to be getting closer with Campbell smashing some great fours in the last few games, and finally top scoring on 28 in the final match of the season. Campbell approached his cricket with enthusiasm, focus and energy. Well done Campbell!

Lachlan Mortimer What a great season Lachlan has had! Always first on the field he was often so eager to play that he didn’t wait for the batter to arrive before he started bowling! The energiser bunny of our team, Lachlan would take a big swing with his big bat and tear down the pitch. Many fours were struck, and even though Lachlan missed the first couple of games of the season he still managed to accumulate a very respectable 96 runs in total. In the field he was engaged and alert, charging after the ball and firing it back at the stumps with pace and precision. And his enthusiastic bowling impressed all season too. Great all round performance, fantastic effort Lachlan!

Jake Cutting Jake’s many hours in the backyard competing with older brothers paid dividends again this season, with Jake top scoring overall with both bat and ball. His speedy accurate bowling saw him clean up the stumps on quite a few occasions. And his ability to strike the ball and spot a quick run saw him score a tidy 138 runs overall. As the coaches son, he also took on the role of, (self-appointed…lol..) assistant coach encouraging his team mates during the games and sharing the odd coaching tip! Great work Jake, I am very proud of you.

Patrick Thompson Patrick must have enjoyed the season as he was always smiling! A newcomer to cricket and the team Patrick appeared to be just enjoying each game of cricket which is what it is all about. Always keen to hit the ball, a new bat towards the end of the season saw his confidence and run rate soar! Keep up the good work Patrick! Hope to see you again next year.

Another great year for the kids. We had a mixture of kids from last year and some new kids. All the kids got on well together and it showed with the performances on the field. All the kids showed a great attitude on and off the field. The kids got better and better every week and it showed in the scorebook with the kids not losing a game all year. A special thanks to Cameron who helped me out during the year and the parents that got the kids there every week. Hope to see you all back next year.

Dexter Phelps Dex is another one that loves his cricket and it shows on the field. Dex is a bit of an allrounder who loves a bat and, along with Paige and Sasha, was equal leading taker.

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 18 Season 2017-18

Jaxon Wise Jax is the youngest member of our team but probably one of the most determined. His size doesn’t reflect his commitment on the field and he is determined to bat as well as his big brother. At just four years old, he is already showing signs of being a good cricketer.

Lucas Roberts Lucas is also a new member to our team and once again fitted in very well. He is another kid who loves a bat and has no problem diving around in the field to stop a ball. Lucas' bowling has also improved throughout the course of the year.

Paige Wise The veteran of the team, Paige's bowling has improved a lot this year and she finished the season as equal highest wicket taker. She is also capable of hitting the ball when she concentrates.

Sasha Croft As a new comer to the team, Sasha has slotted in nicely. With a very good bowling arm, Sasha has equalled Paige and Dexter as the leading wicket taker. Sasha is also great in the field taking a catch or two.

Lachlan Wise What can I say about Lachie, he just loves his cricket. With a great eye for the ball, he was hitting fours all over the ground, scoring a whopping 305 runs for the season and pulling off run outs at will. He was easily the leading run scorer in our team.

Koby Chisholm The Kobester !, Also new to the team this year, Koby was a bit shy at first but it didn’t take long for the team to welcome him and now there is no stopping him. Koby loves to bat and he can hit the ball well and also has no problem diving round in the field to stop the ball.

Another great season for the mighty 9s Maroons. The kids stepped up to a joint 9s and 10s competition in the new T20 format and really took to it with great enthusiasm. As the youngest team in the comp we really surprised a lot of teams with our skills in all parts of the game. Out of our 15 games this season, we had 8 wins and 6 losses with one bye as well. The improvement we showed across the season was a credit to the kids and their willingness to improve made it a very enjoyable year to coach. I would like to thank everyone who helped out during the year. Having such an amazing group of parents, prepared to take time out of their own days, made coaching so much easier. Thank you - I can’t wait to see you all next year.

Jack Macan Jack is a very talented allrounder, a great left-handed batsman who has all the shots. Took some great catches during the year. Top year Jack ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 20 Season 2017-18

Tanush Chahaun Hard hitting lefty who had an amazing ability to hit any ball, regardless of line or length, behind square. Our highest run scorer this year with a couple of 30 plus scores. Well done mate

Oliver Trevitt Oli was our youngest player this year and what he lacked in size he made up in enthusiasm. Never took a backward step when batting and his bowling really improved. His fielding was awesome, resulting in lots of run outs. Pleasure to coach. Top job Oli.

Ava Gaughan A natural cricketer who is equally as good with bat and ball. Our leading wicket taker who had another great season. Ava lives and breathes cricket and hopefully will continue in the footsteps of her Forrester cousins. Well done Ava.

Marcus Hammoud Marcus had a great season this year. He is a very good bowler and hits the ball very hard. Great in the field with a strong arm. Marcus is in for a big year next year. Well done mate.

Curtis Marsh Curtis improved in all aspects of his game this year. He is very good at playing with a straight bat which resulted in lots of 4s past the bowler. Bowled very well taking some crucial wickets. Great effort Curtis.

James Mitchell James continued to improve throughout the season especially in his bowling. He often took a wicket when needed. He got behind the ball when batting and was eager to run hard between the wickets. Well done mate.

Another season done and dusted. Even though we only won 2 games , we came close a few times. Every week they were excited to be playing and everyone was putting their hand up to bat or bowl first. The thing I was most proud of was the way the boys played in the spirit of the game, always a hand shake at the end of the match and often good banter and a few laughs with the other team. This also extended to the Mums and Dads of the other teams. Everybody just got on with what needed to be done, setting up fields, sharing the oranges during the break and, in some cases, even coaching our boys. Being my first season as Manager, I wanted to thank all the parents for their support whilst I learnt the ins and outs out of everything especially scoring and the boys were learning the game. I’m so proud of the boy’s efforts this season as they always put their heart and soul into each game they played. No one gave up and our boys showed a determination all the way through to the last ball of the match. In a couple of games during the season, we gave some of the stronger teams a bit of a surprise and the parents an extremely entertaining game. In a couple of games, we were just unlucky but that’s the game and the boys always tried their hardest. This just goes to show, if we stick together, in a season or two, we can be a team to be reckoned with. The boys have grown and developed so much throughout the season. I just hope that the boys know how impressed I am with their individual efforts and hope to see them all next year.

Rehan Anwar Rehan wasn’t always able to attend games and training but, when he was able, he was always energetic and keen to get on the field and play with his new friends. With a friendly smile, Rehan was always ready with his bat in hand when I said ‘who wants to bat’! Hope to see you again next year Rehan.

Jackson Herrings It was the first season of cricket for Jackson. With his speedy bowling, ability to spot a quick run and take it, and wild swinging of the bat he didn’t disappoint. Most of all, he just had fun and loved being with his friends which is what it’s all about. By the end of the season he was playing some great cricket

Brandon DeMarchi Brandon had a great season, making some solid runs to be one of our regular batting achievers. Brandon was a pleasure to have on the team and always gave his best, even after taking a few knocks from the ball, a bit of bruising didn’t stop him. Fantastic effort Brandon!

Daniel Cole Daniel was another of our quiet achievers. Daniel really enjoyed his season and was always wanting to open the batting. When bowling, batting and fielding Daniel always had a friendly smile on his face. Daniel is a handy batsman, and was always trying to do his best, listening carefully and trying different techniques to improve his bowling. Thanks for always trying and always smiling Daniel.

Ashton Macdonald Ashton was our star batsman and half of our pocket rocket duo! Along with his best mate Isaac, he was always ready to run when put into bat. Watch out for those fast deliveries. Always smiling and a pleasure to have in the team. Ashton was a good influence on the other boys. Great work Ashton !

Isaac Deguara Isaac had a great season with both the bat and ball and, teaming up with Ashton, made plenty of runs. Isaac was always eager to take to the field and must have had a great time because he always looked like he was having fun and growing as a player all year.

Dylan Grace Dylan is a very enthusiastic and popular member of the team and really enjoys his time out in the field. He bowls straight and likes nothing better than smashing boundaries. Unfortunately, Dylan had to leave us pre-Xmas when the family moved from the area. I’m sure Dylan will be a force wherever he plays in the future.

Another magnificent season done and dusted with our talented little stars. We won most of the games with great performances although our opposition were often very skilled and well organised. Game day was always about getting in and having fun - runs and wickets were an added bonus. Each player brought something unique to our team and we saw many fine all round performances during the season. I’m so proud of each player’s efforts this season as they always put their heart and soul into each game they played. No one gave up, even though they were up against kids who had played together for many years with a skill level that matched. However, our players showed a determination that shone through. Ahmed Jaafar Ahmed another of our quiet achievers this season. Quiet, polite and enthusiastic Ahmed was a pleasure to have on the team. In the field he was engaged and alert, and during the season his bowling improved immensely, always keeping the opposition on their toes towards the end of the season. He also put in an outstanding all round performance with 135 runs and 9 wickets.

Owais Bin Hawel Owais was not able to attend all games during the season. However, when he was available, he was always looking to contribute with the bat, taking quick singles and made the most of his time at the wicket. He was very handy with both bat and ball and will have a big season next year if he can play regularly. He also had a very solid season with 77 runs and 6 wickets.

Samuel Weightman Samuel is a great team player. During the season his bowling improved immensely, with some great deliveries keeping the opposition guessing and making it difficult for them to score runs. He also was more than capable with the bat which resulted in great season figures of 84 runs and 9 wickets. Wonderful performance Samuel.

Lucas Donnelly Lucas is a very energetic and helpful team member. He understands the game very well and regularly put in match winning performances. He was the highest wicket taker in the team. He had outstanding all round season stats of 68 runs and 14 wickets and next season promises to be even bigger. Incredible effort Lucas.

Samuel Rice Being the first season for Samuel, he started off lacking confidence in his ability but with some encouragement, and the support of his team, he was playing some great cricket by the end of season. A good all-rounder, Samuel will only keep on improving with time and next season will bring out the best in him. Amazing work Samuel.

Mia Diamond Mia is quiet, respectful and a passionate Saints player. Mia was a pleasure to have on the team and was always full of encouragement for her team mates. In the field she was engaged and alert and helped the team with her great wicket-keeping skills. Mia missed couple of games due to other commitments, however she still also managed to get 14 runs.

Well, we come to the end of the season and what an enjoyable one it was! A mix of first timers and experienced players made for a season with plenty of positives. The boys suffered only three losses all season, which was a result not even I could have expected. Game day was always about getting in and having fun – a different each week, rotating line-ups and interchanging wicket-keepers meant each week was a new experience. Winning was a bonus and helped keep the boys keen to come back each week. Being my first season as coach, I wanted to thank all the parents for their support whilst I learnt the ins and outs out of coaching and the boys were learning the game. I am genuinely grateful to the parents as I couldn’t make training or some of the games, so between taking the kit home, running training sessions, helping score games, umpiring and helping the kids get kitted up, there wasn’t much I actually did as coach! So, thank you to the parents, you helped get the team on the field each week. I’m so proud of the boys’ efforts this season as they always put their heart and soul into each game they played. No one gave up, and each week was a chance to improve on the week before. Fielding was solid by the end of the season, while with the bat we learnt when to steal those extra runs without losing wickets. The games that we lost went down to the last over, while the games that we won highlighted a dominating performance. It was a pleasure to coach them this year, an even bigger pleasure to watch their development and skill level grow during the season, I just hope that the boys know how impressed I am with their individual efforts and hope to see them all next year.

Meet the Players

Kobi Brasch Kobi’s previous cricket experience proved invaluable to the team from the beginning. His consistency with the bat and ball week in week out ensured the results kept coming, though it was his focus and determination that was a highlight for me. He would often ask for his scores and stats, but would show no emotion when informed he topped the score sheet, often working out ways to score more runs or take more wickets. His mum assures me though he loved playing but has a funny way of showing it!! You were awesome Kobi!

Isaac Mikhail Arguably the leader of the team, Isaac dominated the batting and bowling stats most weeks. Quick deliveries with equally quick swings of the willow, he dazzled the crowd with boundaries and wickets, and some great dives in the outfield stopped certain boundaries and restricted the flow of runs. With some encouragement from the sidelines (comparisons to Joel Garner could be heard) Isaac was a valuable member of the team. A wonderful contribution Isaac!

Noah Mikhail One of our first timers also making the transition from the footy field to the cricket field. From our first training session, the enthusiasm was there, we just needed to work on the skills of the game. Fast forward to the end of the season, and we watched on as Noah prepared to bowl his hat-trick ball! The improvement in his game was outstanding, thanks to the effort of the parents at training and Dad’s input and guidance at home. For me, our Most Improved player of the team! You should be very proud Noah, we definitely are!

William Olivotto Our quiet assassin! Always smiling, always keen to perform, William was an absolute gem to have in the team! Methodically went about his game each week, taking wickets with deadly accuracy, though it was behind the stumps where he shone the brightest. Taking catches and finishing off runouts, William’s glove work was my highlight of his game. A future keeper is in the making!! An absolute pleasure to have you in the team William!

Michael Psirakis A season of two halves for our heavy hitting run scoring machine! The games leading up to the Christmas break was dominated by high scores and frequent boundaries, while after Christmas it was Michael’s bowling that came to the fore while the batting took a back seat, even delivering two wickets with his very first 2 balls of a match. Also, keen to operate behind the stumps, Michael was involved in everything. Nice work Michael, your contribution was awesome!

Kostas Saisanas Kostas has been with the team since the Minis and his experience and fast bowling was invaluable to the team. Deceptively quick, Kostas’ bowling was a guaranteed few wickets each match and proved just as handy with the bat. Each season has seen an improvement and maturity to his game that will benefit him for years to come. His clever fielding also ensured that runs were kept to a minimum allowing for successful run chases. Always a pleasure Kostas!

Xavius Wilson A powerful bottom hand ensured that Xavius was always amongst the runs. Finding the boundary was part and parcel of his contribution, and with some help at home, Xavius also chipped in with some wickets with his accurate bowling from his longer run-ups. With excellent hand-eye co-ordination from seasons playing Rugby League for St Chrissies, the transition from the footy field to the cricket field was seamless! Thanks for being part of the team Xavius!

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 29 Season 2017-18

Zeedan Wilson Our sniper in the field! While solid with the bat and ball, Zeedan’s biggest asset was his fielding. Without fail he would hit the stumps each week from any part of the ground, a deadly arm that could affect a runout with ultimate precision. With additional runs from wickets so important, Zeedan’s ability to turn a 1 or 2 run additional for the opposition into 4 bonus runs for us was often the catalyst to victory. Keep throwing down those stumps Zeedan!

Coaches - Peter Fitzgerald & Tim Croft

This side has benefitted from the tutelage of John Clay for three years until this season when Tim Croft and Peter Fitzgerald stepped into those big boots. We inherited a team with lots of talent and determination and with a great foundation. It would lead to great things. Most of the team has been together for those three years. This year we were strengthened by the addition of Tristan Otomancek and Reagan Sidhu. Both made great contributions with bat and ball. And that sums up this side. Every player contributed over the season and every player deserved the triumph that we shared at the end. There were some performances that merit special mention: • Josh Agius and Harry Divan chasing down the 63 set by Revesby Workers in game one. We won without losing a wicket. • Matthew Fitzgerald taking a hat trick against Milperra Vikings in game three. • The win against St Christopher’s U12s (who would go on to win the U12 premiership) over two days at Gordon Parker in October. • Luca Croft and Matthew Fitzgerald fighting back from 6 for 65 against Bankstown Sports to post 6 for 154, a winning score. • Kristian Zanbaka posting his first ever 30 n.o. against Revesby Workers in November and Tristan Otomancek taking 3 for 0 to put the match beyond doubt. • Tristan’s stunning 19 n.o. against a rampant Bankstown Sports in February.

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 31 Season 2017-18

Four batsmen scored over 100 runs and no less than 9 of our bowlers took 5 or more wickets this season, highlighting the fact that this was a team with contributions from every player on the field. There was no better example than the Grand Final again Revesby Workers. The top six batsmen all made runs, the wickets were shared between six of the bowlers and catches were taken by six of the fielders. The coaches could not have been more proud of the effort put in at training, which saw everyone grow in skill and confidence, the way the players conducted themselves on the field, and the well-deserved win. We had great support from parents and families, so thanks and congratulations to all. We hope to see you all again next season.

Peter Fitzgerald & Tim Croft Coaches

Meet the Players

Josh Agius Able to open the batting and the bowling, and keep wickets, Josh was one of our most consistent players. He opened the season with a 32 not out and went from strength to strength with the bat. He took 9 catches, the third most for the club this season, and showed himself to be a strike bowler. Josh earned rep selection this year and a great future awaits him.

Zach Agius Big and strong, Zach is growing in confidence and ability. He hits the ball hard, scored good runs for us and has the potential to take an attack apart. Zach probably showed his best this season with the ball in hand. He bowls a heavy ball and is developing the power and speed to beat the best batsmen.

Kai Allie One of the great improvers of the year, Kai is a natural sportsman whose fielding and catching were impeccable. Kai also scored runs consistently during the season. Whilst he didn’t manage to post a 30 (and retire not out), he often sacrificed his wicket when quick runs were called for. Kai performed brilliantly in the Grand Final, getting runs, a good catch and an important run out. And that sums up Kai, a team player with great skills and lots of promise.

Luca Croft Luca had what can only be described as an outstanding season. He topped the batting aggregate with 192 runs at 32. He topped the bowling figures with 12 wickets at 10.75 and he took the most catches for our team, reaching double figures with the catch of the season in the Grand Final. In one unrivalled purple patch he posted scores of 31, 30, 32 and 22 without losing his wicket. Leading by example, Luca was our most valuable player this season.

Harley Cutting Harley’s determination was always welcome whether with the ball, bat or gloves on behind the stumps. I would love to be able to bottle that determination and fire to succeed because he has bucket-loads of it. In some games his intent to compete saw him bowl good pace, helped him to smash the cover off the ball, or try to throw the stumps down from the field. He scored two great 20s and came close to 30 against St C’s U12 s but fell 2 short. With even more application, especially if he can play a bit straighter, Harley could develop into a very exciting cricketer. He only needs to tweak his technique a little with bat and ball to get there. He took some great wickets, 5 in all for the season, and his keeping was always solid. Another kid who you wanted in your side every week.

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 32 Season 2017-18

Harrison Divan Harry always trained hard and gave his all with both bat and ball. He also worked to improve his fielding and took one of the outstanding catches in the Grand Final win. Harry stood out as someone who combined good technique with talent and intent to do his best. The coaches can’t take all the credit here as we did see his Dad put some time into Harry’s practice ;-) Harry plays with a nice straight bat when needed and started the season with a great 21 in partnership with Josh and followed this up with his highlight, a 30 ret n.o. against Milperra in Rd 7. This key to scoring consistently will help Harry score many more runs in years to come. He also bowled very accurately with just a hint of outswing and was justly rewarded with 6 wickets. A solid all-rounder in the team, he can only get better with the technique he has.

Matthew Fitzgerald Matt has developed into one of the best all-rounders in the team. With a solid batting technique, he reached 30 ret. n.o. FOUR times, with a highest score of 34*. He totalled 186 runs at 37.2 for the season. I think he’ll enjoy U12s next season, where they can bat until they reach 50. He played a great captain’s knock in the GF, with another 30*, to ensure our side posted a great score. He also took 2 for 1 off 4 overs with 4 maidens. His great accuracy saw him get 9 wickets at 11.2, and he only went for 2 runs an over ! His 7 catches confirmed his influence on most games, which was impressive. Add to this his maturity; whether bowling, batting or supporting others in the field he consistently brought a lot to the team. Matthew was a most reliable and consistent performer and was a pleasure to coach.

Tristan Otomancek Tristan joined our team this year with a great reputation as an attacking batsman. We saw how true that was when he tore into one of the U12 sides, Bankstown Sports, whacking the bowling to all parts of the field. He showed skill with the ball too, taking 3 wickets in an over in another game and a vital catch in the Grand Final. A danger to any attack, Tristan has the skill and power to turn a match and is a very valuable member of our team.

Regan Sidhu Regan showed significant improvement through the season. He wanted to bowl some medium pacers in one of the first games and I countered that his leg spin looked more dangerous. This was rewarded with 4 excellent wickets and he, like Kristian, will get more edges in the seasons to come as they both bowl in great areas. But most impressive was his effort at training on his batting. He is a good listener and applied what he was shown, resulting in a couple of good scores in the last few games. Regan was able to bat long for periods and he improved his running between the wickets. He also took 2 of the best catches of the season at slip/ gully and would not let any balls get passed him in the field. Regan was a pleasure to coach and a real asset to the side.

Kristian Zanbaka Kristian brought enthusiasm to every training session and game. His bowling always challenged the batsmen with turn and bounce. He took 6 wickets but will take even more in seasons to come as batsmen will start to edge those deliveries which they missed this season. With the work he put in at training on his batting, it was no surprise he featured in not 1, not 2 but 3 match defining partnerships. One was a very close loss, the other two for wins. This included the highlight of his season; a 30 retired n.o. against Revesby Workers.

Max Zanbaka Max also trained and played with much energy. He developed his nice medium pacers this season and impressed with good line and length in most games. It was no surprise to see him take 7 wickets. In most games Max also fielded with a lot of energy and is a great team man, supporting all the bowlers every game. It is great to have these energetic and encouraging brothers in the side contributing every game.

The Under 12’s team began the season losing four of our first five games. We were beaten by Revesby Heights Under 12’s twice, Bankstown Sports Under 12’s and our own Under 11’s team. We were training hard, concentrating on the basics – fielding, running between wickets and straight bowling, however, we seemed a fair way off the top teams in the competition. In Round 6 we played Milperra Vikings and our season began to turn. Winning the toss, and electing to bat, we scored 287 from 45 overs with half centuries to Daniel, Josh and Baha. The training had begun to pay off with the running between wickets resulting in such a massive innings. We then backed it up the next week by bowling Milperra out for 82 with five separate wicket takers and two run outs. The Under 12’s then went on a run, winning five of the next six games before a savage loss to the competition hot shots, Revesby Heights, the week before the finals series. We had finished third and were drawn to play the Vikings in a sudden death first semi. Milperra most likely regret the decision to send us in to bat after we scored 241 runs in 45 overs. We lost our first wicket at 226 with Daniel and Baha repeating their round 6 feats with another pair of half centuries in an opening partnership that went at 6 runs per over for the first 15 overs. We bowled Milperra out for 119 with our new recruit from the Under 10’s, Scotty Beattie, debuting with two wickets. To win the premiership we were confronted with the task of beating Bankstown Sports and Revesby Heights. These sides had beaten us a combined total of five times throughout the year, with Revesby undefeated for the second year in a row. It was a mountain to climb. ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 36 Season 2017-18

Our preliminary final began with losing the toss to Bankstown and being asked to bowl. After 30 overs, Bankstown were 1 – 102 and it looked like we may be chasing a large total. Lachie and Daniel had other ideas, taking three wickets each to bowl them out for 146. Testament to the boys’ hard work with their bowling was that six wickets were bowled. Whilst we had done tremendously well keeping them to this total, it was still a good score for a finals game at Under 12’s level. The coach needed not to worry. We chased it down with nine wickets in hand and nine overs remaining. Our openers, Daniel and Baha continued their run scoring spree with an opening partnership of 83 before Baha was run out. Daniel went on to score his second successive half century and Paddy and Josh guided us home. We had done it! A third Grand Final and one that had seemed so unlikely midway through the season. It seemed to be an insurmountable task to beat a team with seven representative players who had not been beaten in two years, except if you were to ask this group of boys. They had formed into a formidable team who enjoyed each other’s company and played their cricket with enthusiasm and joy. Their best chance was that they had become a champion team. We won the toss and elected to bat with our openers continuing where they had left off with an opening partnership of 68. Daniel went on to score his third successive finals 50 – an unbelievable effort, assisted by Josh, and Paddy and Lachie who finished the innings with some real fireworks to build an impressive total of 162. This was an excellent score for a Grand Final despite Revesby exceeding this total in our previous two clashes. If effort does reap reward then our Sunday was the truest indication of such. Our Under 12 boys were magnificent, fielding like men possessed. We took six catches and completed two run outs to illustrate the amazing team work that had developed amongst this group. They threw themselves at everything in hot conditions for nearly three hours to bowl the best team in the competition out for 116 and become the 2017-18 Under 12 Premiers!! I have coached many sporting teams across 30 years of coaching and many sides were more talented than this one. In my time, however, I have not coached a group of boys who worked so hard together as a team as this group. They were always positive, listened, tried hard and supported each other at all times, reflecting the best of the great game of cricket. It was a privilege to work with them and watch them grow and improve across the season. The support these boys receive from their families is the foundation for why they achieved so much this season. They are firstly, good young men with sound values, shown by the way they played their cricket. There was not a single negative comment towards an opposition player throughout the entire year. Sledging does not exist in this team (except when they are ribbing each other which always provided us with a good laugh). I am blessed to have such a wonderfully supportive parent group. I would like to particularly thank all those parents who assisted throughout the year and in particular Mick Beattie and Tony Louka for their assistance and hands on support at training and games. I would also like to especially thank our co-coach Steve Burke for all his work at training and at games, scoring all year and doing whatever was needed to support the boys. A big thank you also to our hard-working committee who enable our children to play in a wonderful club and community atmosphere and finally to my beautiful manager for all the unseen work done behind the scenes to ensure our boys can play the game we all love.

Meet the Players

Daniel Louka The most improved cricketer in the competition, Daniel is a true all-rounder in every sense. Our captain in the final series, he led by example scoring three half centuries without losing his wicket. On top of this, he took five wickets in the final series. A phenomenal effort. He was our no. 1 wicket-keeper and the best keeper in the competition. Incredible year from an outstanding cricketer and a great young man. A member of the Under 12’s BDCA representative team.

Ashton Connelly Ashton typified the spirit of the team with the effort he applied to every game. Ashton consistently boosted the team with his positive chatter on the field and threw himself at all parts of the game to the best of his ability. His bowling continued to improve throughout the year taking a bag of wickets along the way. An absolute joy to have in our team and looking forward to his efforts as they continue to bear fruit next season.

Scott Beattie Scotty played the year in the Under 10’s team but trained with us every week. So, when we were short for our first semi-final it was natural that he would come into the team. What we didn’t expect was that he would take 2–5 off four overs with some outstanding line and length bowling. He played out the rest of the final series, bowling and fielding like a demon to play his part in our premiership victory.

Thomas Beattie Tommy plays above his weight each and every week. The energizer bunny of the team, Tommy is always on the move. He has a good batting technique which will reap runs as he matures and grows. His bowling was first class, improving throughout the year to take seven wickets for the season. This culminated in an outstanding Grand Final performance, taking 2- 7 off four overs, including the no. 1 batsman of the opposition. His Grand Final performance was completed by taking a classic catch for his first catch of the season.

Lucas McAndrew Lucas came into the team as a handy right arm bowler and used it to great effect throughout the year, taking nine wickets at an average and of 17. A top score of 18 demonstrated an ability with the bat as well. The most pleasing aspect of Lucas’ cricket throughout the year, however, was how much he improved his mental toughness. Watching him fling himself through the field in the Grand Final was a coaching dream and it is this part of his approach to the game that will ensure continued improvement. A great season Lucas!

Mitchell Rowles A super cricketer who had another super year, leading from the front at every opportunity. The team looks to Mitchell for the big play and he invariably delivers. A strong right arm bowler, he took 11 wickets for the year. Along with Paddy he formed a formidable fielding combination, taking 13 catches, many of which he was the only one in the competition who would have taken them. He took a ripper in the Grand Final to secure a vital early wicket. Also, a top order batsman who hits the ball hard, he scored over 160 runs in another outstanding year of cricket.

Joshua Trevitt Josh missed a number of early games due to injury, but still scored 200 runs for the year at an average of 66.7 which was the best average of the team. He also took 7 wickets and 10 catches, many of which were taken as our back up wicketkeeper. These impressive figures demonstrate his consistency across all facets of the game which the team relied upon throughout the year. Joshua’s whole-hearted efforts with bat and ball have made him an excellent role model and leader of the younger boys in the team. A member of the Under 12’s BDCA representative team.

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 38 Season 2017-18

Patrick Forrester A class cricketer who continues to go from strength to strength with bat and ball. Averaging 37 with the bat and 16 with the ball at an economy rate of over just over two, Patrick contributed in every game. What is most surprising is these were not even the best part of his game. Pat is a fielding freak! I have never seen a young cricketer hit the stumps as many times as he did, running a stream of unfortunate opposition players throughout the year. A member of the Under 11’s BDCA representative team.

Baha Dadarkar Baha averaged 46.7 for the season and 55 in the final series. He hit two half centuries and a 49 n.o. throughout the year as testament to his powerful stroke making. His leg spin took seven wickets throughout the season, often at valuable times in games. He is a class cricketer who is calm at all times and continues to improve. A member of the Under 11’s BDCA representative team.

Lachie Burke A hard-hitting batsman, Lachie is like a bull in a china shop, sometimes threatening to destroy the whole shop along with the china. He hit his first 50 of his career and played a great little late cameo in the Grand Final. Our final’s opening bowler, Lachie had an outstanding year with the ball, ending as our leading wicket taker with 12 wickets. He bowls quick and straight, hitting the stumps regularly. Another great year for Lachie.

Cooper Sutton Cooper is the heart and soul of our team. Unfortunately, the start of his year was curtailed by a broken thumb at training, however his contribution upon his return continued to go beyond what he does with bat and ball. Cooper is an ultra-consistent bowler with an economy rate of less than two runs per over. In the finals series he took crucial catches and run outs, but it is his support of his team mates, on and off the field, that make him so valuable to a team culture. An absolute pleasure to coach.

Sean Woodard Sean’s improvement throughout the year epitomized the success of the team. A fantastic in- swing bowler, Sean learnt great control to trouble all teams with his bowling. A top score of 30 n.o. illustrated his handiness with the bat as well. A true student of the game, Sean’s positive and respectful attitude reflected the best parts of the game of cricket.

It was a tough year this year for the boys playing in a combined competition, being one of the younger sides and only having 10 registered players was tough as teams score more runs than they should. But over the year I did see improvement in all aspects of our game except for concentration and playing as a team unit. But to be fair, it was hard playing short against some strong opposition so it is understandable. The boys have the ability so next year we just need to have a better attitude and make sure we do the little things right, like catching in the field, running between the wickets and bowling good line and lengths. We have some talented players in our group so if we train harder, and play in our correct age group, we can be a very good side. But it’s up to them to push themselves. As a coach I’m there to assist the development but they are becoming young men and it’s up to them to push themselves to be better. Overall, like all of our teams in our club, they are a great bunch of kids with fantastic parents. I have coached this team for 4 years now and I really enjoy the parents being involved. I would like to thank Tim Millar for all his help. He has saved me a lot of work doing the My Cricket Live scoring app which saves me entering the stats after every game. He also helps out at every training session which has been fantastic. I hope to see all the team back next year and hope to pick up a few extra so we don’t have to play short. They all have ability but just need to back themselves and fight.

Meet the Players

Alex Alkhair Alex is a kid who I feel knows the game very well but just lacks a bit of confidence to get the most out of his ability. He has the skill to be a very good batsman and his bowling is great. Bowls very few extras and can catch and throw. While batting, I felt he developed a good defence but just needs to learn to rotate the strike so he gets the big score.

Connor Bryce Connor is one of the better batsmen in our team but lost a lot of confidence during the year. To his credit, he was getting it back at the end of season. Has a great eye and hits the ball well when he is on. I also thought his bowling improved a lot. His pace improved so much he was used as an opening bowler. Needs to work on concentration and he will be a great player.

Dylan Cutting I have been using Dylan as an opening batsman and he has showed he can stay in for a long time. He just needs to develop getting off strike for a single to get bigger scores. He bowled well at times but probably tried to bowl too much variety and didn’t concentrate on bowling line and length which cost him runs. Great kid to have in the team and he isn’t far away from being a solid all round cricketer.

Caleb Divan Caleb is a confidence player and is very quick to put himself down when things are not going well. But by the end of the season he was bowling very well. He was testing all batsmen with his leg spin and was the leading wicket taker for the team which he should be proud of.

Ryan Klem Ryan is a fantastic cricketer - he was fantastic in the field and I really enjoyed watching him take on the bowling with the bat. Ryan is an Under 12 playing in an Under 14s competition which tested his ability and his ability stood up. He copped a few short balls which he wasn’t scared to pull and hit some great boundaries. He just needs to learn to build an innings and the 20’s and 30’s will become 50’s and 100’s. He bowls good line and length and has the ability to swing the ball. He should be proud of his season as it was a big step up and he did very well.

Owen Millar Owen has the ability to be a very good cricketer. As a batsman he can hit the ball very hard but needs to develop hitting 1s and 2s so he can get the big scores. Got frustrated at times by not scoring and would find a way to get himself out. Bowls really well and is great in the field. If he plays with a positive mindset, Owen has the potential to be a great cricket player.

Nicholas Otomancek Nick has come along this year and his bowling in the last few games was very good. He is also a very powerful hitter of the ball. Loves his cricket and has a very positive attitude. If Nick keeps improving he will be a very good cricket player in a few years. Just needs to work on doing things the same way and not trying to change things.

Liam Parsons Liam hadn’t played for a few years so it wasn’t easy for him at the start playing against older players. However, by the end of the season he started to show his ability. He was my opening bowler and he bowled fantastic lines and length and was getting good pace. Batting he had to work on, which he did, and was starting to develop a good defence but he could still hit a bad ball for a boundary. He is a great kid, has a good attitude and showed a massive improvement.

Marcus Spaits Marcus improved all aspects of his game and his bowling in the last few games was a lot better than the start. Marcus has so much power that he has no trouble hitting a boundary. However, he needs to work on the basics when batting by first hitting to an area and not swinging the bat and the ball goes anywhere. Just needs to learn to focus and he will be a great player. ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 42 Season 2017-18

Jarrod Vangent Jarrod was playing his 2nd year of cricket and is a very good batsman and wicket-keeper. He is strong hitting through point and does the basics well when batting. Running between the wickets and getting a single were his strengths. One of the better keepers in the team who I could rely on to be tidy. Jarrod still has lots of improvement but showed me again this year he can be a very good player.

A last minute arrangement saw Mr Forrester and myself decide to take the U14s for season 2017-18 with Mr F coaching on Fridays and me running the Saturday mornings. We started the season with 13 players but a couple of ‘stars’ deemed the comp beneath them, departed and left us with the bare 11. That suited me fine. Unfortunately, a mid-season scooter incident saw us lose Ports for the rest of the year however a mid-season signing soon after saw us gain Nathan which took us back to 11. All the boys bonded really well and the results started to come. We won our first 2 but came back to earth with a thud when Sports ripped through us in round 3. We got back to our winning way for the next few rounds culminating in a fantastic revenge win over Sports in round 7 where we chased down 187!! But, there are 3 facets to the game – batting, bowling and fielding/catching. Our biggest problem was getting all 3 happening on the same day. Round 7 we batted well. Round 8 we bowled fantastically against the eventual premiers (Heights) but dropped 6 catches which then put extra pressure on our batting. In round 12 against Heights again, our bowling was superb and we held all our catches. We were chasing a gettable total but our batting was ordinary. At competition end, we finished 3rd and I was quietly confident we could make a run at the GF, IF we could get all 3 skills happening (even close to happening!!) in the same game. But it wasn’t to be. In the semi our bowling and ground fielding were excellent but unfortunately our catching let us down which meant we were chasing a sizeable finals total and the batting capitulated again. Season over. ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 44 Season 2017-18

Putting the final result aside, all the boys enjoyed the team environment, enjoyed their cricket, improved their skills and all made valuable contributions during the season – once again it’s that consistency we crave!! I would like to thank Paul for his coaching efforts (our good cop, bad cop is something to behold!), Mick and Kelli for scoring, Mick for managing and all the parents for their support and getting the boys to training and game days on time. It was a good season.

John Grealy Coach

Meet the Players

Arash Basnet Though I have never heard AB speak, he lets his cricket skills do all the talking and he was my ‘go to man’ with both bat and ball. A batting aggregate of 264 (@ 44) and 15 wickets capped a fine all round performance from AB. He was crowned our ‘Champion Player’. Great season AB.

Liam Bateup Wow! The improvement in this kid from season start to season end was phenomenal. He wasn’t particularly interested in batting so we worked on his bowling and fielding. By season end he was my first change bowler, consistently landing his left arm ‘whippers’ causing batsmen all sorts of worries. My highlight for Liam was 1 for 7 against Heights in R12 (virtually all rep players) off 4 overs. Well done Liambo – and remember, keep the head up or I’ll tape the stump to your back!

Nathan Cawley Our mid-season signing and what a signing. After working out that I was crazy, Nath quickly settled into the side where his all-round skills were the perfect replacement for Ports – and he could wicket-keep as well, taking 2 important catches for us in his first game! Always up for a chat, Nath enjoyed the season and we look forward to getting a full season from Nathan next year.

Lachlan Connelly Another player who came on in leaps and bounds this year. Lachlan’s ability to swing the ball at medium pace made him the perfect opening partner for AB’s tearaway speed at the other end. He snared 13 wickets for the season with my highlight being in the pink stumps game against RH. He had the pink ball on a string and it was comical to watch the rep batsmen play and miss for his first 4 overs. Lach set the team up for a win that day but it wasn’t to be. Also scored a 25 with the bat. Good season Lachlan.

Braith Cosgrove Cozzy came to us after a year at Workers. We worked on his bowling and by season end he was hitting the mark consistently with good speed and a hint of a leg cutter. It’s just practice, practice and more practice to get it right. Cozzy had some sort of epiphany after Christmas and came back as a champion fielder. His ground fielding was unbelievable, stopping and picking up balls at full speed. I have no doubt his fielding saved us 20 runs in the semi. Thanks Braith.

Michael Forrester Micky was our Captain and did a fantastic job. His positive talk at both training and game day kept the boys focussed while his field placements were spot on. He scored 181 runs for the season, mainly as an opener, averaging 26 which set us up for many of our wins. Took 5 wickets but more importantly held all catches that came to him. Michael gets my “Coach’s Award” not just for his all-round cricket ability but for his leadership all season. Thanks Mick! (He also picked up many valuable ‘life skills’ from our Captain/Coach discussions!!) ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 45 Season 2017-18

Thomas Forrester Tommy was another of my ‘go to’ men. Averaged 55 with the bat, took 10 wickets and was our equal leading catcher with 7. Two memorable innings from Tom - a chanceless 105 n.o. against Sports which won us the game and his fighting 75 in the semi that nearly got us there. His small/medium size body holds a 2XL heart and I would often throw him the ball for the last over or when we needed to slow the run rate as I knew he would step up. Great season Thomas!

Sean Foster Foz did more with the ball than the bat this season whereas I was thinking it would be the other way round. He bowled 1st change for us all season and took 9 wickets with an excellent economy rate of 2.37 per over. He was my Mr Reliable when I needed pressure maintained on the batsmen. Foz also had the pink ball on a string in R12 against Heights and took his season best of 3-13. In the field, the ball always followed Foz and his chases were always a highlight of my Saturday morning. Thanks Foz.

Abdullah Kayani AK or ABs? – in the end I confused myself. This kid loves his cricket and had a really good season. His top score of 33 came against Sporties when we needed it while his bowling got quicker as the season progressed. Though he only got 6 wickets, his economy rate was 1.96 per over and only 1 other player in the whole competition had a better rate – that’s how well he was bowling. Good season Abs!

Jack Martin Another always up for a chat, Marto is a wicket-keeper / batsman. He didn’t score as many runs as he would have wanted but in saying that, he did twice fall to very good catches when he looked set to score big. His keeping’s good (when he doesn’t relax!) and his talk behind the stumps keeps all awake. Good year Jacko!

Ethan Nennas Ethan played up a year and is a solid all-rounder (keeps as well) who loved reminding me when he needed to be injected into the game! Luckily, most of the time he was right. A batting average of 22.4 with a high score of 29 n.o. against Saints when he opened. Unbelievably, he only got 1 wicket all season, but his bowling was always tight at the great economy rate of 2.37 per over. Throw in 3 catches and it’s a good season Eth!

Bradley Porter As mentioned in the summary, Ports had a season ending scooter accident and we missed him dearly. He had only 2 bats – a Round 3 23 which nearly got us back in the match followed by a Round 4 73 where I thought he was gonna get a ton! Add his 2 wickets and you can see we were robbed of a valuable all-rounder who could have made a huge difference in the finals. Get better Ports, we need you back for next year.

A very promising year, with the boys putting in for each other week in, week out. We had 14 players all year, the hardest thing being who was going to miss out each week, which I thought we managed well, with everyone given the opportunity to show their wares. The team came together very quickly and bonded as though they had been playing together for years. We had four boys from Heights, two boys from the other side of Alfords Point Bridge, two boys came up from the 14’s and the balance of the team played in the 16’s last season. The side was extremely well captained by Ben Butler, who helped make my job easier every week by leading the team on and off the field. He also had a great deputy in Tom Tiberti. Both boys had a great knowledge of cricket and the ability to read the game well. As I mentioned earlier the team bonded well, and each week someone put their hand up with some good performances throughout the year. We were Grand Finalists, being beaten by a well put together team with maybe as many as 13 rep players. To the boys credit, they never stopped trying and believing in themselves. Unfortunately, our batting let us down in this game and we could only manage 92 against some very good bowling from the Vikings. Our bowling and fielding lifted for the occasion but just wasn’t up to the task. I wish all the boys moving on to senior cricket all the best, work hard and you will achieve the desired results. For the boys eligible to play again next season, the club would love to have you

back. It was a pleasure to coach you boys, you were always well behaved, well mannered and played the game in the spirit it should be played in. A special thank you to our Manager Brooke Butler, who possesses excellent organisation skills, whom made sure the year travelled smoothly allowing me to concentrate on coaching the boys. Another special mention to Tony Smith for taking and owning the scorer’s role, a thankless role. Good luck next season

Meet the Players

Harry Anderson Our very own version of Warne, had a good season with both bat and ball, slightly better performances with the ball. Remember to grip it and rip it. Always did everything he was asked for, a good team player.

Ethan Burke Very good all-rounder, good performances with the bat and ball, excellent fieldsmen. Keep putting in the hard work and the performances will follow. Another team player - well done.

Ben Butler A newcomer to the club. Well done - great captain, always led from the front, some excellent batting and bowling performances. Keep up the hard work, and hope to see you excel in in the upcoming seasons.

Ethan Carlos Very handy with the bat and ball and put together some good performances. One who could benefit more from being more vocal.

Stephen Coyne A newcomer to the club. Improved with each game throughout the year, fitted in very well in the team, and was well liked by his peers. Some good bowling performances especially in the back end of the season. Keep up with the hard work.

Daniel Cutrupi Didn’t get as many opportunities to show his skills, but when given the chance to bowl or bat he valued the opportunities and performed well. Unfortunately missed day 2 of the Grand Final due to a broken arm, received the day before playing footy. Hopeful for a speedy recovery.

Jonathan Delinicolis If his performances could match his verbal abilities we would have the next Bradman on our hands. Good performances with the bat, ball, and fielding. Keep your head down and keep up the hard work.

Raul Konia Another newcomer to the club. Great performance with the ball, probably the best bowler in our competition, I know he was the most unluckiest. Best bowling performance 5 overs, 6 for 7, and five of those runs came off one over. With a bit more concentration he could excel with the bat as he has a good technique, but needs to back himself and believe.

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 49 Season 2017-18

Ben McGuire Another team player, that took the most of his opportunities. Keep up the hard work and hope to see you on the cricket field in the seniors. Good team player.

Shervin Singh A newcomer to the club. We probably should have chipped in and bought him an alarm clock, consistently being the last to arrive. Some good performances with the ball, needs to continue working on his batting, as I see plenty of runs in store.

Zane Smith Another newcomer to the club. Contributed to the team as required, fitted in very well, and continued to improve. Need to continue to work hard and slow down his run up and will develop into a good bowler.

Tom Tiberti A very talented cricketer with great performances with the bat and a top score for the season of 121 n.o. In my opinion the best batsmen in the comp. Also very handy with the ball, on a hat- trick in the GF. He just needs to continue to work hard on his game, and value his wicket, as no bowler troubled him all year.

Mark Walter A well liked player, put together some handy performances, and kept well all year. Also put down some handy overs when required. Hope to see you on the senior’s team next year. Continue to work on your batting, as you have potential.

Callum Whyte The lifeline of the team, continued to amuse his peers. Kept well when required, and a true team player through and through. Keep working hard and I’m sure you will see the results.

SEMI FINALISTS

Like a stubborn tail-ender trying to salvage some pride, C Grade had a mission: do better than last season but not too well that we’d be bumped up a grade. I think we can unequivocally say that we certainly achieved that goal. Not only did C Grade experience a meteoric rise to new heights that saw it topping the table for a good part of the season, it ended in a spectacular crash in the finals. But what is indisputable is the great time the team had, with many a laugh, great camaraderie and some good cricket. And, typically, in that order. There were at least two outstanding teams, who took their cricket seriously and generally dominated most matches with a few key players who probably should have been contracted to A Grade. On the other end of the spectrum was everyone else, ranging from: ‘the hillbillies’; a team who preferred to crack open the VB before a match started (and who wanted to finish early to make it to happy hour at Diggers); and a bunch of upstart punks. Welcome to C Grade! But in saying that, no outcome was ever certain. Saints managed to record a number of wins on the trot early on against some tough opposition. Our strength lay with our bowlers and the guarantee that Mitcho could win the coin toss 9 out of 10 times. Time after time, we managed to roll teams for low scores (which was helpful, given our propensity to suffer batting collapses). At one point, the team even went for an outright win in a one day match, such was its hot form. Alas, our humble concerns about ‘being too good’ were unfounded. After the Christmas break, things started to fall away. It may have been player unavailability, a lack of training, a mounting injury toll (most of the guys are old after all) or even some dodgy betting agencies. While the team managed to scrape through to the finals, we saved our worst performance for last and bowed out (but not all that reluctantly). Having said that, our performance this year was a great achievement. The boys should be proud.

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 52 Season 2017-18

There were some outstanding individual performances throughout the season that deserve mention. Cricket tragic Sid’s bowling continued to improve out of sight, picking up consecutive 5-wicket hauls to become one of the highest wicket takers in the club’s C Grade history…and won’t we now hear about it forever. Before succumbing to injury, Mick’s explosive batting always kept us in the game and was a pleasure to watch at least someone score some runs. But along with greatness comes much hilarity. With the game in the balance against Bass Hill, Matty was the last batsman sent in to chase down the final 20 runs. Unfortunately, he had just lost his house keys and was beside himself with worry. Completely distracted, he was bowled first ball before trudging back to the kit bags, sheepishly declaring that the keys had been in his pocket the whole time. Or you could also ask Matty about his mankad dismissal of an opposition’s batsman. Another sight to behold was Shaky’s unique fielding method, where he would only use his feet and ankles. I think the best way to sum up our season is to finish with an excerpt from : “It’s incredible, really, the amount of pain cricketers are prepared to put themselves through. Say you’re an opening batsman who gets out for a duck in the first over on day one. What compels you to hang around for the rest of the day, let alone turn up the following Saturday for day two? Yet you do, lest 10 blokes who you don’t even like think slightly less of you. You retain a sense of loyalty to the club, to your teammates, even though those same teammates will not hesitate to rate your girlfriend a ‘six out of 10’ in front of your face. During the time I’ve spent watching my teammates bat after getting out cheaply, I could have learned a language by now. I could be speaking Mandarin. Instead, all I’ve got to show for it is a career average of 13.6 and a 10 percent discount at our local pub.” Great season fellas! I had a blast and look forward to seeing you all next comp.

Mitcho Captain

Meet the Players

The Support Crew The team certainly wouldn’t have made it as far as we did without the exemplary help of a large number of super subs. A big shout out and eternal gratitude to Vivek Mahajan, Aryan Krishan, Ethan Burke, James Apostolakis, Mark Walter, Ethan Carlos, Joel Shields, Alexander Passarelli, Harry Anderson, and Jack Martin.

Gurjinder “Sid” Sidhu Sid had to have been the biggest show-off of the team. Week after week, Sid would take multiple wicket hauls with his accurate pace bowling leaving very few wickets for the other bowlers to take. Two weeks in a row Sid took a 5-wicket haul, eventually becoming one of the highest wicket takers in Saints C Grade history. Yep, even more things for him to humbly brag about. Sid’s love of cricket was infectious and his love of crunching the numbers was enough to get on everyone’s nerves (especially because he was wrong half the time). Sid was a big presence in the team, and we certainly wouldn’t have gone as far as we did without his stellar contribution (and even with a back injury for the last few matches). A fantastic season mate!

George “The Apostle” Apostolakis It was always refreshing to be fielding alongside George because, being an official umpire himself, he wasn’t afraid to let the umpires know how horrendous their decisions were! His fielding is second-to-none, orchestrating several amazing runouts during the season where he flattened the stumps with -like efficiency. But as good as his fielding was, his bowling was even better. George may not have taken the most wickets, but his ability to stop batsman from scoring is the best I’ve ever seen. I can genuinely say the team was always much worse off when he couldn’t make it to a game (or when he was half-hour to an hour late!)

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 53 Season 2017-18

Rahiman “Shaky” Shaik Shaky joined the team during the season and immediately made a bad impression when he brought non-alcoholic beer for after-game drinks (and yes, it tasted as terrible as it sounds!) Shaky brought a little bit of everything to the team – he scored a sublime half-century during the season while also picking up a few wickets with his medium pace. Unfortunately, after scoring his half-century, Shaky decided to invest in a new cricket bat which ended up costing about $50 per run. Thanks for your passion Shaky, and we look forward to seeing you again next year (just no more non-alcoholic beer please!)

Paul “Pauly” Collins It doesn’t really matter what Pauly achieved throughout the season because all that is going to be remembered is his final match of the regular rounds. Context: Pauly is playing keeper, his son is bowling, and Pauly ain’t wearing a box. The comedy writes itself! I’ve also been reliably informed it is a highly effective measure of birth control. But in all seriousness, Pauly was the constant force behind the stumps that often went unnoticed (until someone else stepped in and then you realise what a great job he was doing). Pauly also took care of the mundane tasks of putting a team together every week and all the administration that goes with it. A big thanks from the team for all your work!

Gary “Gaz” Bennetts After a solid season with the bat in 2016/17, Gaz decided to reinvent himself as a frontline bowler. Well he had to, after spending more time out in the middle in 2017/18 as an umpire rather than a batsman! His loopy medium pace bamboozled the opposition, cementing himself as one of the leading wicket takers for the season with one of the best strike rates recorded. But undoubtedly Gaz’s moment of the season was an over-the-shoulder catch at the deep long off boundary to remove the opposition’s most dangerous batsman. Gaz is a great sportsman and an asset to the team.

Stephen “Mitcho” Mitchell Our mighty Captain was always there to depend on, for all our sandpaper needs! :) Under immense pressure from Club officials for the team to do better this season, the Captain continued his run of successful coin toss choices and led us to 7 wins from 9 matches. But the Leadership group got together and decided some of us just aren’t ready for B Grade. Performing just as well with the ball this season (don’t mention the bat), Mitcho was a pleasure to keep for and watch as all batters struggled with his consistent line and length. Thanks Cap for an awesome season, a vast improvement on the last, ending up 3rd on the ladder!

Steven “Burkey” Burke When he wasn’t holidaying overseas (priorities, man!), Burkey was the cornerstone of the team. Burkey is one of those players that is happy to slot in wherever there is a need. Need an opening batsman because everyone else is too lazy or hungover? Burkey’s your man. Need someone to run from fine leg to fine leg? Burkey’s got it covered. Need someone to (probably…maybe…likely) take a sharp catch? Yep, that’s Burkey. If cricket truly is a gentleman’s game, then it’s because of blokes like Burkey. Next season, we just have to work on his attitude of prioritising holidays over cricket!

Michael “Mick” Martin By and large, the team doesn’t tend to have a lot of big hitting fire power when it comes to batting. But Mick is the exception to the rule. Of all the players in the team, Mick has the uncanny ability to knock a ball right out of the screws from the very first ball. There were a couple of matches throughout the season where Saints had all but given up chasing down the required runs. But we always felt we were in with a chance if Mick was at the crease, such was his impact. Unfortunately for Mick, his inability to take a regulation catch late in the season resulted in a bad finger injury which ruled him out for the last few games. As they say, catches win matches (and prevent season-ending injuries)!

______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 54 Season 2017-18

Sanjay Krishan Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see as much of Sanjay as we would have liked after getting an injury half way through the season. It was a great shame as Sanjay is a genuine allrounder. Whether you needed quick runs or quick wickets, Sanjay was the guy to turn to. Though we may not see Sanjay back next season after Mitcho gave him a dodgy LBW decision!

Matthew “Matty” Agius Matty is one of those players that simply loves his cricket and is involved in everything. From continuing to play with a 15 year old cricket bat, to taking one for the team by scoring every week, to mercilessly running an opposition batsman out by mankad, Matty is everywhere. But perhaps the biggest surprise package of the season was his bowling. When finally thrown the ball by harsh taskmaster Mitcho, Matty took 3-9 off 3 overs. Even his own wife didn’t believe it! The team would not be what it is without Matty on it. A great season mate and an absolute pleasure playing alongside you. And sorry for throwing the ball at your shins in the final!

Jaiden “Jai” Collins Jai is the quiet achiever of the team. When everything (and everyone) else is falling in a heap, Jai is the guy that goes about his business and gets it done. In particular, the maturity in his batting is second to none. In the longer form of the game, Jai shows great resilience and patience in his stroke making, racking up runs smartly. But when he does get a bad ball, the flashes of brilliance in his big hitting are fantastic to watch. Perhaps his greatest achievement however is withstanding the torrent of “advice” from his dad on the field. However, Jai managed to get his own back, bowling his dad “middle stump”. Let the reader understand.

Santosh “Santy” Vanka Every team needs a Santy on it. Santy is the good guy of cricket - respectful, proper and a great team player. That is until you get on his bad side! Santy was always around, and always willing to do whatever needed to be done. Batting, bowling, fielding – he was willing to help the team out wherever there was a need. And he managed to do all that even while carrying an injury for most of the season. His smart spin bowling propped up the team on a number of occasions, making the opposition work hard for every run. Great season mate!

Footwork looks too good for C Grade mmm….not sure what is happening here !

2017/18 has been a successful year but an unsuccessful year as well. After last year, I decided the team needed some direction so I made our club’s (Cameron Phelps) captain. Cameron did a good job in some trying times this year. We welcomed some new players to the club, and some old players returned, so we were a bit of an odd bunch to start the year. Like all park cricket teams, we played short on occasions which is tough in hot weather. We were at our lowest when playing Panania short and being bowled out for 13 in our first innings. We struggled in the first half of the season in the 2 day matches but our 1 day form was fantastic. After Xmas we were in a position that, if we dropped a game, we could miss out on the finals in both the 1 day and the 2 day competition. We then clicked with the bat and ball and we got onto a bit of a roll. We ended up making the Finals for the 1 Day and 2 Day which in itself is a great effort, but we should have won at least one of them. What was disappointing, like the Australian team, our on field behaviour and attitude was not up to standard for our club in the final rounds and I think, in the end, was a big factor as to why we didn’t perform in the 2 finals. When pressure is applied, good teams lift and play for each other which was disappointing. There were heaps of highlights - 100s to Cameron Phelps, Anthony Khoury and Andrew Divan, 5 wicket hauls for Cameron Phelps and Andrew Phelps with Andrew also getting a hat-trick. We also would have just about caught more catches than we dropped which was pleasing. Things we need to improve next year to go one further is attitude and our team culture. This means getting to games on time ready to play. For most of the season, I really enjoyed it but felt we sometimes put ourselves before the club which needs to change. Hope to see you all back next year

Meet the Players

Cameron Phelps ‘The fearless leader’ Cameron was given the captaincy this year and managed to lead the team into 2 Grand Finals. Had a great year with bat and ball. Leading run scorer of 174 with the bat and was the leading wicket taker for the year. I think he did a great job with the team going from last in 16/17 season to finishing 2nd in 17/18 season. Cameron loved to be a hero and hit 6s, which was annoying at times waiting for the other team to bring the ball back.

Anthony Khoury ‘Mr Consistent’ Anthony was our best new signing for the year. He had a great year with the bat coming in at number 3 after I had done the hard work removing the shine from the ball. Bats with David Warner’s Kaboom bat so a block normally went for 4. Great guy to have in the team and has a pretty good Facebook sledge in him which kept me on my toes. He would have learnt a lot from me this year.

Andrew Divan ‘MVP’ I handed the keyboard over to John Clay to write this one. Andrew is the heart and soul of the cricket side. He will probably go down in the history of the club as one of the greatest all- rounders and will be spoken about in the same breath as other great New Zealand players like Richard Hadlee, Kane Williamson and Martin Crowe. I also enjoy his funny posts on Facebook especially when he takes the mickey out of me. He is so handsome and smart.

Michael ‘Come at me Bro’ Lambley Mick hadn’t played for 6 years but had a very good season with both bat and ball. He finished the season as our opening bowler and was very economical. Explosive hitter with the bat who, on his day, can score big and score quickly. He was promoted to open the batting with great success. Loves a drink and loves a stink!

Luke ‘Lebowski’ Stocks The Dude, a club legend and it’s longest serving player, had another great season with bat and ball. Luke is great guy to have in your team as he always puts the team first. He played some great innings with the bat and, when he gets the ball swinging, is very hard to hit. Luke also rates himself as a Ten Pin Bowler and enjoys walks on the beach. Yes ladies, he is single.

Mark ‘Funky’ Davidson The Funkster played his 100th game for the club this year. He sort of played part time this year but is a great guy to have in your team. He is now a Reiki Master so anyone looking for a session he will throw in stories from his 100 game career for free. Funky is also a party animal who can dance nearly as well as me.

Mitch ‘Longtime’ Wise Mitch had an up and down year, struggling to know if he was in form or out of form because he kept getting ducks. Was explosive in the field with Jonty Rhodes-like fielding when he was on the field. Can bat for a long time in the shower or opening the batting.

Tim ‘Bye Gumby’ Croft Timbo, like all old fast bowlers, had a few injuries during the season but also played some games where he has throwing the ball down with some serious heat. He was never pleasant to face in the nets when fully fit. Was okay with the bat but had a few issues when the ball was on middle stump. Still has a few years left in him.

Vipul ‘Sachin’ Lunkad Vipul started playing this year after a few years out. He was a fantastic team player and, if everyone had his attitude, we could have won. He probably didn’t get the opportunities he should have during the season but he is a great guy to have in the club. It was great to have players from the two best cricket nations, New Zealand and India, in the side. ______St. Christopher’s Cricket Club 58 Season 2017-18

Marcel ‘The Speed’ Eid Another great team player, Marcel was great in the field and bowled some handy overs for us. Probably one of the better fielders we had in our side. Always looked good with the bat but didn’t get the big score he probably deserved.

Andrew ‘Better than his brother’ Phelps Andrew had a great season, Great bowler who we could rely on to get wickets and he doesn’t muck around with the bat either. Andrew, in my opinion, is the best player in his family followed by Peter and Cameron would be third. Probably a better bloke than Cameron also.

‘Pistol’ Pete Solway Pete has two speeds when batting - 5th gear and overdrive. It doesn’t matter if we are 1 for 100 or 9 for 100, he plays the same. Unlike his brother, his dad Gazza never spent time teaching Pedro how to block so he only knows how to hit 4s and 6s. Also loves a good Rave old Pete.

Big Billy Sanford Billy is an ex-St Christopher’s junior who decided to play again because he heard about what a legend I was. Billy was a very good bowler who is very tall and gets good bounce. He was great in the field with his young legs. Billy would also be first pick for our ‘Men of Saints Cricket Calendar’ behind me.

Ben ‘Turbo’ Nennas Been is an excellent keeper - batsman. With our bowling attack, would often find himself diving down leg side 3 out of 6 deliveries. Very good keeper to spin and always took every opportunity to get a wicket. Another batsman who hits big and scores quickly and loves a contest.

Andrew ‘Straw’ Berry Andrew joined the team to listen to the banter on the field. Didn’t have a lot of cricket experience but was great to have in the team. Great in the field and would have been one of the fittest players in the team.
