En el ámbito estrictamente universitario, di mis primeros pasos hacia el trabajo de investigación que hoy les presento en la Universidad Pompeu Fabra, donde cursé, entre las calles Balmes y Ramon Trias Fargas, la licenciatura en Humanidades. El hado o mi más discreta voluntad quisieron que iniciara los cursos de doctorado en la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, donde hoy concluyo felizmente un camino repleto de encuentros. Entre la gente que he encontrado están aquellos que apenas cruzaron un amable saludo conmigo y aquellos otros que hicieron un alto en su camino y conversaron, apaciblemente, con el modesto autor de estas líneas. A todos ellos les agradezco cuanto me ofrecieron y confío en haber podido ofrecerles yo, a mi vez, algo más que hueros e intrascendentes vocablos o, como escribiera el gran bardo inglés, palabras, palabras, palabras,... Entre aquellos que me ayudaron a hacer camino se encuentra en lugar destacado el profesor Javier Antón Pelayo que siempre me atendió y escuchó serenamente mis propuestas, por muy extrañas que resultaran.

Friday, May 24, 2019 – 8pm Buñuel Theater, Palais des Festivals Since 2013, as an official partner of the Cannes Film Festival, Angénieux has been paying a tribute to a prominent director of photography during the « Pierre Angénieux ExcelLens in Cinematography » ceremony. This event turns the spotlight on worldwide masters of light, directors of photography, without whom cinema would not exist. After Philippe Rousselot (AFC*, ASC*) in 2013, Vilmos Zsigmond (HSC*, ASC) in 2014, Roger A. Deakins (BSC*, ASC) in 2015, Peter Suschitzky (ASC) in 2016, Christopher Doyle (HKSC*) in 2017 and Edward Lachman (ASC), it is Bruno Delbonnel’s turn to be honored in 2019, at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, during an exceptional eveninG opened by Thierry Frémaux, presented by French journalist Pierre Zéni and in presence of some of his closest collaborators. Bruno Delbonnel is a world-renowned French director of photography. Born in Nancy in 1957, Bruno Delbonnel first studied philosophy, then graduated from ESEC in the camera and light section, before filming his first and only film at the age of 20 : a short film, Rare Realities. On this film, Jean-Pierre Jeunet was his assistant and Henri Alekan, his DOP… AlonGside the master of black and white photoGraphy, he discovered his passion for liGht was stronGer than directing. He then beGan workinG as a camera assistant during fifteen years for commercials and some feature films, then as a DOP.

    Legacy Effects Impact of Motion Control and CG

    Cory Radtke CVFX: Legacy Effects Impact of Motion Control And CG Imaging In Cinema “It’s easy to create something that has a lot of luster, but it’s very hard to make something that has a lot of depth.” These words, from John Dykstra – a motion control pioneer – encapsulate the state of mind in the film effects industry in the late 60’s. Special effects for cinema had reached a point which at audiences required more impressive visuals that were more detailed and realistic to suspend their disbelief. The weariness had set in, in the 50’s/early 60’s because of the bombardment of super low budget B-movie action and horror films. With the established use of stop motion and optical printing techniques, effects technicians- provoked by visionary filmmakers worked to push the envelope. The content also dictated the advancements necessary to tell/show the stories. One such film that changed the industry forever was Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. The production of the film gave birth to motion control and and slit-scan photography, pushed by a visionary and a vision - “Do it right, do it better then do it all over again”(Costa 5). Kubrick helped open the door to following decades of visual marvels that have since become staples in motion picture effects work. Innovation after innovation, the technical achievements pushed forward by motion-control - soon after included: Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Superman, and Blade Runner. (Edwards 2-9). As 2001 opened the door to motion-control, subsequent films – most notably Star Wars adapted and advanced the technology with the minds at the newly created ILM, by George Lucas.

Arts 10, no. 4 (2020): 560–570. https://doi.org/10.21638/spbu15.2020.402 The article is an attempt to discuss Dziga Vertov’s influence on French filmmakers, in -par ticular on Jean Vigo. This influence may have resulted from Vertov’s younger brother, Boris Kaufman, who worked in France in the 1920s — 1930s and was the cinematographer for all of Vigo’s films. This brother-brother relationship contributed to an important circulation of avant-garde ideas, cutting-edge cinematic techniques, and material objects across Europe. The brothers were in touch primarily by correspondence. According to Boris Kaufman, dur- ing his early career in France, he received instructions from his more experienced brothers, Dziga Vertov and Mikhail Kaufman, who remained in the Soviet Union. In addition, Vertov intended to make his younger brother become a French kinok. Also, À propos de Nice, Vigo’s and Kaufman’s first and most “vertovian” film, was shot with the movable hand camera Kina- mo sent by Vertov to his brother. As a result, this French “symphony of a Metropolis” as well as other films by Vigo may contain references to Dziga Vertov’s and Mikhail Kaufman’sThe Man with a Movie Camera based on framing and editing. In this perspective, the research deals with transnational film circulations appealing to the example of the impact of Russian avant-garde cinema on Jean Vigo’s films.

Walker, ASC — stars Rita Hayworth and Glenn Ford and was promoted as a re-teaming of the stars of the prior hit Gilda (1946). Considered a “comeback” effort following Hayworth’s difficult marriage to Prince Aly Khan, Trinidad was the star's first picture in four years and Columbia Pictures wanted one of their finest cinematographers to shoot it. Here, Walker (on right, wearing fedora) and his crew set a shot on Hayworth over Ford’s shoulder. Dick Tracy – W. Beatty (1990).jpg Directed by and starring Warren Beatty, Dick Tracy (1990) was a faithful ode to the timeless detective comic strip. To that end, Beatty and cinematographer Vittorio Storaro, ASC, AIC — seen here setting a shot during production — rendered the film almost entirely in reds, yellows and blues to replicate the look of the comic. Storaro earned an Oscar nomination for his efforts. The two filmmakers had previously collaborated on the period drama Reds and later on the political comedy Bullworth. Cries and Whispers - L.
