It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, well maybe not outside, although I have seen Christmas decorations out since before . But definitely, the busyness of Christmas has hit our parish. Last weekend we had two marriages at the 5 pm Mass, the RCIA Rite of acceptance into the order of Catechumens at the 10 am, and three baptisms at the Noon Mass. At 4 pm, Bishop Roger Gries was here to Confirm 24 of our parishioners. It was a long and exciting weekend. Today is the First Sunday in Advent. And while we have been very busy, let us not forget the importance of celebrating Advent and preparing our hearts for the coming of Christ and taking the time to stop and pause in gratitude for all we have. My prayers were with all of you this past Thursday for Thanksgiving, and I hope we all took time out of our busy lives to thank God for our blessings. I hope everyone took advantage of the Giving tree that was put out last weekend and did some of their Black Friday shopping for someone less fortunate. We have many opportunities to celebrate Advent in the coming weeks. Next weekend we will be celebrating with St. Nicholas, so please take advantage of coming down to Nolan Hall to visit with him. December 14 & 15 Fr. McCarthy and I will be celebrating the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at the 5 pm and 10 am Masses. Also that weekend, we will have the “Blessing of the Bambinelli” at all the Masses, so please remember to bring your Baby Jesus from your Nativity scenes at home to have blessed. Later that evening, at 4 pm at Our Lady of Victory Church in Tallmadge, we will have our 5-parish Communal Penance Service. Please take this opportunity to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Christmas. On December 17, at 6:30PM, we will have a service to reflect on the O Antiphons in the Church. During Evening Prayer, there is always a short “antiphon” that links the prayer to the feast of the day or the year before saying the Magnificat. In the last seven days of Advent (Dec. 17-24), each antiphon begins with an exclamation “O” and ends with a plea for the Messiah to come. Please join us as we pray together and learn more about the ancient Advent tradition! Lastly, the Altar and Rosary Society will be having their Christmas Bake Sale December 21 & 22. Please come to Nolan Hall and pick up some Christmas goodies, especially if you forgot to bake and need some treats for the Holy Day. God’s Blessings, Fr. Jared Orndorff, Pastor Summer Projects Update
