As you are certainly a ware, C O VI D -19 poses a serious safet y risk for staff and people i n c ar c er at e d at B at a vi a t h at c o ul d j e o p ar di z e t h e st a n d ar d of c ar e at t h e f a cilit y. I n c ar c er at e d people are particularly vulnerable to outbreaks of contagious diseases. • Jurisdictions need to understand that incarceration of persons defying quarantine orders could lead to exponential increases in jail cases and c as es i n t h e c o m m u nit y. • Measures other than detention should be considered, such as at- ho me electronic monitoring. • Custody should plan on future absenteeis m of ill correctional offic ers. • Supply chains ( , food, etc.) may beco me disrupted. • Consider alternatives to incarcerati on, in order to kee p stock population do wn (diversionary courts, co m munity corrections) . • If C O VI D -19 is in your jurisdiction, consider restriction of move ment in an d out (visitors, n on-esse ntial ve n d ors, tours).
