However, most of the 100 pages contains generalizations about serial killers and the effects of such crimes upon the community. Rather boring to one who reads true crime on a regular basis.1 of 5 people found the following review helpful. 'Serial killers have a signature, a motive, a set preference for characteristics among their victims. Herbert Mullin had none.'By Grady HarpFlorida author Jack Rosewood inherited his fascination for heinous crimes from his father, a journalist covering major grim crimes, e.g. Ted Bundy. He is fascinated with serial killers – their development psychologically, their preparation for their life of crime, and the details of how they made their bloody black marks on the world. The movie star handsome Rosewood lives in Jupiter, Florida with his wife and two children. This is now his tenth inimitable book from his series Historical Serial Killers and Murderers.Jack’s writing style completely captures the essence of the serial killers he studies. His astute studies of the various serial killers about whom he is providing biographies is not only fascinating reading material, but also a probing investigation of the psychopathology of serial killers. However in is 10th installment of Jack’s series he seems to grow along with his expertise in reportage. There is complete information not only about the perpetrators background and the series of and assaults he committed, but also about the interplay between the press and the judiciary system and relatives of the victims that makes this one of Jack’s most successful books to date.In his Introduction Jack lays the groundwork: The twisted tale of Herbert Mullin and his brief but volatile spree truly is one that is stranger than fiction. Drugs, sexuality, mental illness, and his bizarre beliefs all worked together to create one of the most dangerous killers in at that time. Herbert Mullin did not come from a violent background, and he never displayed the usual childhood warning signs of impending murderous depravity. Instead he was voted most likely to succeed in life by his fellow classmates at school, and was recognized by the neighbors as being a good boy, an asset to society. So how on earth did it go so terribly wrong? Thirteen innocent people died at the hands of Herbert Mullin between October 1972 and February 1973. The majority of the victims weren’t enemies, or threats to Mullin. All but two of them in fact had never met him before in their lives. They really were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.’And with that creepy prologue Jack manages to examine the history, the acts, the mind, and the consequences of this eleventh study of serial killers. They are riveting and perfectly constructed books that beg to keep the lights on….Grady Harp, December 150 of 0 people found the following review helpful. TRUE STORY, A FAILURE CALLED BOOK!By GRAYBeen a Reader Reviewer for many years, I found that love almost any genre. But, at the same time I look for quality. This book is just a few pages of some crimes, no depth in it. The stories are true but the book is almost filling. The author just took the info and wrote it, no deepness, the "research", if any, it's just made to laught.Every book that I read had a fair approach but, when someone wrote something like that, sorry, doesn't bother to do it anymore.I buy two other books and found the same lack of attraction, perspective. I don't reccommend this 'author' or his books. Don't like to waste my time!I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. I'm very honest with my Reviews, not only for me, the author or other readers, how an author know when did something good or need improvement? How another reader believe in my review? If I didn't read the book, I don't Review. If the book is good, Review. If the book isn't good, Review. With that we all benefit, readers, authors readers searching for something new or special. My opinions are my own. You can find me at under: MASTERI

A priest, a homeless man, small children, a drug dealer and a witness….these are just some of the supposedly random victims of Herbert Mullin. In just four short months, he managed to kill 13 people, using a range of weapons and reasons. But were they all random victims, simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, or was there a much more sinister plan behind them all? Of all the American serial killers, Herbert Mullin is perhaps the most bizarre. His killing spree spanned 13 victims, and his battles with mental illness and addiction were well publicised throughout his trial. But was he really mentally ill? Can a psychopath be so clever he can fake it? Whatever the truth, his murders left a permanent mark in, California history. Santa Cruz became known as the California murder capital of the world, partly due to Herbert Mullin. When you think of true crime California, you are reminded of the likes of III, John Linley Frazier and Herbert Mullin, all of whom committed their bloody rampages across California at the same time. Mullin’s beliefs that killing innocent people would prevent a major earthquake from occurring was indicative that not all was well inside his brain. Was Herbert a very intelligent and scheming man whose plan all along was to kill to hide an act of revenge? The answers may lie inside the pages of this book. You will have to read through and make that decision for yourself.
