Let’s take another step back before that: Maybe you’ve already found the right equipment but the sound of your voice is causing headaches for you. Here are a few tips and tricks on how to present your voice to sound its best:

Get comfortable with your voice: Who doesn’t know this feeling? You hear your own voice in a video or a voice message and think: “My God, that’s how I sound? That’s terrible!” First of all: Yes, that’s how you sound and no, that’s not terrible at all. You just per- ceive your own voice differently when you speak. But the shyness for your own voice can be trained down: Grab a recording device that could be your smartphone for exam- ple, and just talk about what you’ve been doing the last few days. You can listen to the recordings afterwards. Not only will you get comfortable with your voice, you’ll also recognize the strengths and weaknesses of your speech and be able to use them for your podcast.

The following three tools can be found in almost every DAW - and they can help you further modify the sound of your podcast.

Tip 3: Ideally, voices sound very “clear” and have good speech intel- ligibility. It is a big misconception to achieve this by increasing the treble. The energy of the voice is in the mids and with a mid-raise every voice gets more energy and clarity. The trick is to slightly raise the mids at several frequencies so there is no unpleas- ant resonance at one frequency.
