CONCLUSION ....................................................................................................... 142 3 (1) On 27 May 2015, the Commission received a notification of a proposed concentration pursuant to Article 4 of Council Regulation (EC) No 139/2004 by which International Consolidated Airlines Group, S.A. ("IAG") acquires indirectly within the meaning of Article 3(1)(b) of the Merger Regulation control of the whole of Aer Lingus Group, plc. ("Aer Lingus") by way of a public offer (the "Transaction"). (2) IAG and Aer Lingus are hereinafter referred to as the "Parties". 1. THE PARTIES 1.1. IAG (3) IAG is the holding company of each of British Airways Plc3 ("BA"), Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España, S.A.4 ("Iberia"), and Vueling Airlines, S.A.5 ("Vueling").6 The IAG airlines (BA, Iberia and Vueling) fly to around 200 destinations with approximately a further 200 destinations served under various codesharing relationships. (4) BA has its main hub at London Heathrow (LHR) and also operates bases at London Gatwick (LGW) and London City (LCY). Iberia's main hub is at Madrid Barajas (MAD). This may be the result of a fragmented pattern in physical geography (e.g. islands separated from the mainland by sea), which renders surface transport impossible; and/ or the outcome of socio-political geography friction (e.g. disputed areas close to the frontier of neighbouring countries) which makes investment in expensive surface transport infrastructure very unappealing. For these reasons, remoter regions and their local societies depend heavily on air transport to ensure accessibility and economic and cultural connectivity to the wider world. Local airports provide the necessary means for airlines to operate their services; in certain cases, however, such airports may be located in a neighbouring country thus raising the levels of complexity in the transport system. Studying, therefore, the range of an airport’s catchment area becomes of great significance.

Movimentos (regulares e não regulares), por região, nos aeroportos nacionais; 3. Principais rotas operadas, com indicação das transportadoras aéreas que as operam; 4. Movimentos e passageiros nos aeroportos de Lisboa, Porto, Faro, Funchal e Ponta Delgada, com informação sobre o peso das 10 e das 4 maiores companhias aéreas em cada um desses aeroportos; 5. Entradas e saídas de transportadoras em cada aeroporto. O Boletim baseia-se na informação disponível nas bases de dados do ANAC, no 10º dia útil do mês seguinte ao trimestre em análise, pelo que não são considerados eventuais ajustamentos ou correções posteriores a essa data.
