The first is the Living Dance Curriculum (LDC) which is a fun, biblically based and expressive foundational technique. The second is the (RAD) method which is characterized by a standard vocabulary of steps, poses, and graceful movements including pointed feet, rising, jumping, stretching and turning. Both are strengthening, disciplined and stylised and support a high standard of excellence and mentorship. OMA runs all Classical Ballet classes with LDC unless otherwise requested by parents and/or students. More on these styles can be found below.

BREAKDANCE // STREET is a dance style that requires , creativity, dedication and most importantly that the dancer has fun. It is the original hop dance that draws out the creativity and character of the dancer so they can express how they feel. Daniel Lee, the breakdancing tutor, has been dancing at a professional level for over 10 years and has won numerous events across Australia. His teaching style is interactive and puts an emphasis on ensuring all the dancers gain the skills, typical showy moves and the right mindset to enjoy dancing. If you want to improve your skills and want to learn how to breakdance with character all while having fun, and doing it under the safety of a professional, come learn today!

CONTEMPORARY Contemporary is a free form of movement in comparison with the very structured and upright movement required in Classical Ballet. The varied techniques taught enable the dancer to strengthen their core (centre) and at the same time execute movement in a varied dynamic and expressive approach. It can be best described through the main movement element from Rudolph Laban’s theory of the dynamics of movement. They are: space (direct or indirect), time (sustained or sudden), weight (light or strong) and flow (free or bound). Outside Laban’s theory, dynamics would also refer to movement qualities associated with expressive, affective or other physical components. More on this style can be found below.

HIP HOP Hip Hop is quickly becoming the most popular dance style because of TV shows such as ‘So you think you can Dance’ and the fun, high-impact performance that can be experienced from a student level, without decades of dedicated technical practice… although that doesn’t hurt! Hip Hop is a funky, free flowing style with a constant flow of moves and expressions that will help the student engage with the beat of the music and inspire an audience to move.

JAZZ Jazz dance is the most all-rounded dance style, representing popular culture and all of the sub genres that are expressed through popular music and its evolution. Today, this can be seen through music videos that feature both female and male pop artists. Jazz dance enhances flexibility, movement, and fitness levels. This form of is a great work out for all ages and abilities. Jazz troupe is a great way of participating in this form for performance and competitions.

THEATRE Jazz dance is a style influenced by all-round movement to particular music, which evolved on Broadway in the 1950s into another form of Jazz. Musical Theatre dance is a smooth style that is taught today and known as Theatre Jazz or Modern Jazz. This performance style of Jazz is now a distinct type of dance for theatre, as music is for theatre. Theatre Jazz is also used in stage shows today such as Fame, Wicked and The Lion King.

ACROBATICS Acrobatics is all the big flips of the Olympics minus the bars, beams and vaults. Acrobatics is for everyone who wants strength, persistence and bravery. We'll start off with basics but soon be moving into flips, somersaults and twists. Learn to layout, butterfly , rainbow kick and so much more. Styles covered will be classic gymnastics styles and also new school tricking.

PRIVATE LESSONS Individual or paired lessons are available for students who would like more time to prepare and be coached for exams, eisteddfods or advanced students who are ambitious and driven to succeed under the mentorship of professional OMA dancers.

…more on Contemporary Technique – is characterised by its versatility: contemporary can be danced to almost any style of music, or united with other dance forms to create new styles of movement. Contemporary seeks to work with the natural alignment of the body, and is therefore safe and accessible for beginners. At the same time, the ease of movement promoted by contemporary dance technique allows experienced dancers to push new boundaries of body movement.

Graham (named after ) - focusing on the use of contraction, release, fall and recovery. is characterised by floor work and the use of abdominal and pelvic contractions. The style is very grounded and the technique visibly contrary to the sylphlike, airborne ideals of ballet. Cunningham (named after teacher and choreographer ) - focusing on the architecture of the body in space, rhythm and articulation. Cunningham uses the idea of the body's own "line of energy" to promote easy, natural movement. Richard Alston (previous Artistic Director of London Contemporary Dance Company) uses Cunningham technique in his graceful . Limon (named after Jose Limon) - exploring use of energy in relation to gravity and working with weight in terms of fall, rebound, recovery and suspension. Limon technique uses the feeling of weight and "heavy energy" in the body, and movement is instigated using breath to lift, and swings through the body to create and halt movement. It also feels very nice to perform! Release - placing emphasis on minimising tension in the search for clarity and fluidity and efficient use of energy and breath. In , we release through the joints and muscles to create ease of movement, releasing the breath to aid the release of the body. A great relaxation technique as well as a dance style.

…more on Classical Ballet, Living Dance Technique – OneMaker Academy offers students the unique opportunity to learn Classical Ballet through the Living Dance Curriculum, a fun, biblically based and expressive foundational technique. Students have the option of participating in examinations or progressing through to the next level at the discretion of their teacher. Living Dance Classical Ballet is a foundational technique designed to provide an awareness of the physical body e.g. understanding of their centre of gravity in any position together with a safe and correct alignment. It also offers emotional understanding where inner feelings can be expressed naturally with the absence of pomp or artificiality, which develops the artistic expressive abilities that would otherwise lie dormant or underutilised. Interpretive concepts are expressed where a dancer uses visualisation to enact various 'healthy' functions (rather than 'dysfunction') in relationships and in situations. The outcome is that of - building healthy inner concepts rather than dysfunctional imprints in the memory of the inner person. These concepts are anointed dance mimes from a Biblical worldview.
