The Springfield Ballet Company’s 2014 Summer Intensive Workshop is a great way for dancers to supplement their training and improve their skills, while working with outstanding master teachers in a positive, nurturing environment. Classes are held daily from 9:00 a.m. to noon in Theatre II at the Hoogland Center for the Arts. Only 20 dancers will be accepted to each week-long session; and admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Dancers must be at least 10 years of age and dancing at an intermediate level. Please dress professionally for each class and bring proper dance shoes. Contact SBC Artistic Director Julie Ratz at 217.544.1967 with any questions. Week One: August 4 to August 8, 2014 Hernan Justo - Ballet Hernan Justo began dancing in 1974 at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He joined the Ballet Estable del Teatro Colon in 1982 and then was invited to perform with the Ballet del Teatro Argentino de la Plata two years later. His career then took him to the Ballet de Santiago of Chile, the Ballet Clasico de Camara in Caracas and Ballet Contemporaneo de Caracas, Venezuela. Justo became a Principal Dancer with the North Carolina Dance Theatre (NCDT) in 1994 under the artistic direction of world renowned Jean Pierre Bonnefoux, Patricia McBride, and Jerri Kumery. At NCDT, he performed a wide range of ballets by several choreographers -- by Balanchine: The Four Temperaments, Who Cares, Concerto Barrocco, Serenade, Allegro Brillante; by Alvin Ailey: Feast of Ashes; by Agnes de Mille: Rodeo; by Sal Aiello: Turn of the Screw, The Nutcracker, Clown and Others, and Journey; and by Alonzo King: Map, Chants and Dreamer. In 2000 he was invited to become Artistic Director of the Carolina Ballet Theatre, where he choreographed and staged more than 70 new ballets for the company such as Giselle, Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, Who Cares?, Le Corsaire, and Don Quixote. Francesca Genovese - Jazz

Francesca Genovese is currently in her 10th season at Carolina Ballet Theatre in Greenville, SC. She began her dance training at the Deborah MacKay School of Dance under the tutelage of Deborah Tiffany in Rochester, New York. Before joining CBT in 2004, Genovese trained with many internationally recognized teachers and choreographers including Chet Walker, Abron Glover, Mia Michaels, and Denise Jefferson. In 2003, she trained with The American Academy of Ballet in Amherst, New York, and spent the summer at The Ailey School in . In 2003 and 2004, Genovese received full scholarships to dance with the Garth Fagan School in Rochester, New York. Francesca has choreographed for CBT’s Summerworks Performance for seven years now and has set her choreography on the professional company.

Week Two: August 11 to August 15, 2014 Elizabeth Chapman - Ballet

Elizabeth Chapman is currently in her 9th season with The Georgia Ballet. She also performs with Dance Canvas and the Lume Foundation. Elizabeth began her training with the Springfield Ballet Company in her hometown of Springfield, IL. She has also studied with American Ballet Theatre, Joffrey Ballet School, The Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet, and Nashville Ballet, where she danced for two years prior to joining The Georgia Ballet. Elizabeth has especially enjoyed dancing the title roles in Paquita and The Firebird, as well as the Snow Queen and Dew Drop Fairy in The Nutcracker. In addition, she has loved the challenge of dancing George Balanchine’s Serenade, Who Cares?, Concerto Barocco, and Valse-Fantaisie. When not performing, Elizabeth’s passion lies in sharing her knowledge and love of dance through teaching students of all ages.

Herman Payne - Jazz

Herman Payne, a native of Miami, FL, is a graduate of the Julliard School with a BFA in dance. His credits include the Aspen Ballet, The 30th Anniversary Special, The International Tour of Fosse, The Radio City Christmas Special, The International Tour of West Side Story Teatro La Scala, City Center Encores, House of Flowers under the direction of Kathleen Marshall, Pajama Game under the direction of John Carffa, and The ID of BOB under the direction of Hinton Battle. His commercial credits include work with artists such as Michael Jackson, , Usher, Destiny’s Child, Mya, , , Thalia, Tony Moran, Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam, as well as many more. Herman was also a Photographic Dance Double for Damon Wayans in the movie Marci X and has been a regular dancer on Saturday Night Live.
