The sound has slightly changed and this new album is a kind of atmospheric medieval folk, created only with real acoustic, classical instruments. This new piece of Heathen Art is unleashed under the flag of the underground Pagan label OCCULTUM and comes in an elegant A5 booklet edition limited to 300 copies. Two and a half years after “Sterbender Satyr”, ORPLID are back with their fourth studio album “Greifenherz”. In contrast to their previous outing, this album is filled with pathos, a belligerent and archaic piece of work. “Greifenherz” is informed with a surprisingly hostile and cold atmosphere - a partially menacing and martial sound ORPLID haven’t applied since some of the more violent outbursts of their early works. There are some constants in ORPLID’s labour, however. Sandra Fink, who contributed with her expressive voice to “Sterbender Satyr”, adds a mysterious and sinister depth to the tracks “Totenesche” and “Traum von Blashyrkh”. Ambient Festival to impreza prezentująca współczesne odmiany muzyki elektronicznej i elektroakustycznej oraz pokazująca wartościowe przedsięwzięcia z zakresu sztuki „Video Art”. Coraz większa popularność tej odmiany muzyki na całym świecie sprawia, że zajmuje się nią coraz większa ilość muzyków, na co dzień uprawiających jazz, folk, a także muzykę klasyczną. Ideą imprezy jest zainteresowanie szerszej publiczności niekomercyjnymi formami muzyki o najwyższych wartościach artystycznych oraz zapoznanie z najnowszymi trendami w polskiej i światowej muzyce współczesnej. Ze względu na swój „niszowy” charakter gorlicki Ambient Festival jest jedną z najważniejszych tego typu imprez w Polsce oraz jedną z coraz bardziej liczących się w Europie. W roku 2018 Ambient Festival obchodził 20-lecie swego istnienia. Przez ten okres zaprezentowaliśmy osiągnięcia wielu światowej sławy artystów zajmujących się nie tylko muzyką elektroniczną, ale także muzyką klasyczną, folkową czy jazzową. W Gorlicach wystąpili między innymi: Manuel Goetsching, Harald Grosskopff, Hans Joachim Roedelius, Christian Fennesz, Geir Jensen /Biosphere/, Richard Pinhas, Robin Guthrie, Pieter Nooten, Kouhei Matsunaga, Andres Jankowski, Eivind Aarset, Tadeusz Sudnik, Józef Skrzek, Alex Paterson /The Orb/ oraz wielu innych muzyków z niemalże całej Europy. Przez wiele lat koncerty festiwalowe prowadził red. Jerzy Kordowicz. Dyrektorem artystycznym festiwalu jest Tadeusz Łuczejko, laureat konkursu na najlepsze nagranie muzyki elektronicznej, zorganizowanego właśnie przez J. Kordowicza na antenie „Trójki”. Arhai’s Balkan Folktronica: Serbian Ethno Music Reimagined for British Market* Ivana Medić1 Institute of Musicology SASA (Belgrade) Abstract This article focuses on Serbian composer Jovana Backović and her band/project Arhai, founded in Belgrade in 1998. The central argument is that Arhai made a transition from being regarded a part of the Serbian ethno music scene (which flourished during the 1990s and 2000s) to becoming a part of the global world music scene, after Jovana Backović moved from her native Serbia to the United Kingdom to pursue an international career. This move did not imply a fundamental change of her musical style, but a change of cultural context and market conditions that, in turn, affected her cultural identity. Keywords Arhai, Jovana Backović, world music, ethno, Balkan Folktronica Although Serbian composer, singer and multi-instrumentalist Jovana Backović is only 34 years old, the band Arhai can already be considered her lifetime project. The Greek word ‘Arhai’ meaning ‘beginning’ or ‘ancient’ it is aptly chosen to summarise Backović’s artistic mission: rethinking tradition in contemporary context. Нer interest in traditional music was sparked by her father, himself a professional musician and performer of both traditional and popular folk music (Medić 2013). Backović founded Arhai in Belgrade in 1998, while still a pupil at music school Slavenski, and continued to perform with the band while receiving instruction in classical composition and orchestration at the Belgrade Faculty of Music. In its first, Belgrade ‘incarnation’, Arhai was a ten-piece band that developed a fusion of traditional music from the Balkans with am bient sounds and jazz-influenced improvisation, using both acoustic and electric instruments and a quartet of fe male vocalists.
