Watershed Country Music Festival Announces Stacked 2019 Lineup at the Gorge (2.12.19) https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/music/watershed-country-music-festival-announces- stacked-2019-lineup-at-the-gorge/ WATERSHED COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES STACKED 2019 LINEUP AT THE GORGE The popular country music festival brings a cast of modern country stars to the Gorge Amphitheatre this summer. Generally speaking, it’s been a rough couple of years for Seattle-area music festivals. But not for Watershed Music Festival, the country music megaparty that yee-haws the Gorge Amphitheatre to sold-out crowds every summer. On Tuesday, the Live Nation-backed fest unveiled its 2019 lineup, stacked with modern country favorites. This year’s headliners are Jason Aldean, whom you may know from every other song on local country radio, stadium country rockers Zac Brown Band and Miranda Lambert, who delivered at the Tacoma Dome last year. Lambert, who made some of the best music of her career on her latest double album “The Weight of These Wings,” is also bringing along her girl-powered supergroup the Pistol Annies, featuring Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley. Other standouts include the genre-stretching Kane Brown, Brothers Osborne and rising star Maren Morris, who released a glimmering duet with local Grammy hero Brandi Carlile last week, plus radio darling Mitchell Tenpenny, Chris Young, Carly Pearce, Kip Moore and shoe- shined throwbacks Midland. Former “The Voice” winner Danielle Bradbury, Cam, Cody Johnson, Randy Rogers Band, Michael Ray and Deejay Silver also perform. The boot-kickin’ bash takes over the landmark venue Aug. 2-4. Tickets, which start at $215 for weekend passes, go on sale 10 a.m. Feb. 22 and often sell out quickly. Camping options start at $160. .

  • ANDERTON Music Festival Capitalism
1 Music Festival Capitalism Chris Anderton Abstract: This chapter adds to a growing subfield of music festival studies by examining the business practices and cultures of the commercial outdoor sector, with a particular focus on rock, pop and dance music events. The events of this sector require substantial financial and other capital in order to be staged and achieve success, yet the market is highly volatile, with relatively few festivals managing to attain longevity. It is argued that these events must balance their commercial needs with the socio-cultural expectations of their audiences for hedonistic, carnivalesque experiences that draw on countercultural understanding of festival culture (the countercultural carnivalesque). This balancing act has come into increased focus as corporate promoters, brand sponsors and venture capitalists have sought to dominate the market in the neoliberal era of late capitalism. The chapter examines the riskiness and volatility of the sector before examining contemporary economic strategies for risk management and audience development, and critiques of these corporatizing and mainstreaming processes. Keywords: music festival; carnivalesque; counterculture; risk management; cool capitalism A popular music festival may be defined as a live event consisting of multiple musical performances, held over one or more days (Shuker, 2017, 131), though the connotations of 2 the word “festival” extend much further than this, as I will discuss below. For the purposes of this chapter, “popular music” is conceived as music that is produced by contemporary artists, has commercial appeal, and does not rely on public subsidies to exist, hence typically ranges from rock and pop through to rap and electronic dance music, but excludes most classical music and opera (Connolly and Krueger 2006, 667).

  • Fans, Travel to and from the Show Like Rockstars! Live Nation and Uber Kick Off Marketing Partnership with Venue and Festival Focused Ride Program
FANS, TRAVEL TO AND FROM THE SHOW LIKE ROCKSTARS! LIVE NATION AND UBER KICK OFF MARKETING PARTNERSHIP WITH VENUE AND FESTIVAL FOCUSED RIDE PROGRAM – Uber Begins Servicing Live Nation Amphitheaters, Clubs, Theaters and Festivals Memorial Day Weekend with Sasquatch! Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival New York! – LOS ANGELES (May 14, 2015) – Live Nation and Uber today announced a marketing partnership which will provide concert and festival goers an easy way to get to and from certain Live Nation events when riding with Uber. Uber services will be offered for 20 festivals throughout the year, 62 select Live Nation amphitheaters, clubs and theaters across the U.S. Festivals including the Electric Daisy Carnival, Faster Horses, Music Midtown, HARD Summer Music Festival, and more will be a part of this great program. [Full list is below]. “Fans want the journey to and from a concert to be as smooth as possible,” said Russell Wallach, President of Live Nation Media & Sponsorships. “Uber offers a convenient alternative to driving for riders to any event, and we are thrilled about the experience this brings for all of our fans.” This unique marketing partnership lets fans focus more on the music experience by having easy transportation methods and designated drop-off and pick-up locations, where available, and reduces the frustration associated with traffic and other driving concerns — just fun, friends and music. Building off of the existing integration of Uber's API on Live Nation's mobile application, announced earlier this year, this marketing partnership also simplifies the process of getting a ride to a venue with the inclusion of the automatic address feature, allowing concertgoers a quick, simple way to request an Uber when they want to head to a show with the destination already pre-loaded into the Uber app.

  • Music Counts, Content Matters Watershed
August 6, 2012, Issue 306 Music Counts, Content Matters What’s the optimal number of songs-per-hour for morning shows who’ve learned that PPM loves music, but are often told content is king? Country Aircheck took a snapshot of morning music in 14 PPM markets, six with stand-alone Country outlets and eight with two or more competitors. We counted songs in the 6-9am hours, finding a low of five in one hour for one station and a high of 13 at several other outlets. Four of the six stand-alones averaged double-digit songs in each hour; in three of eight competitive markets, both stations played at least 10 songs per hour. Most stations increased song counts during their 8am hours and cranked up the music machine starting at 9am. (Stations and song counts are listed at the conclusion of this piece. Next week, we’ll examine diary markets.) • Carly Pearce Brings New Music to Watershed
(8.1.19) - https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2019/aug/01/carly-pearce-brings-new-music-to- watershed/ CARLY PEARCE BRINGS NEW MUSIC TO WATERSHED Carly Pearce fans who happened to visit Dollywood, the theme park owned by country legend Dolly Parton in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in 2007 and 2008 very well could have the ultimate “I saw her when” story. Before her upcoming sophomore album, tours with the likes of Jason Aldean, Rascal Flatts and Luke Bryan, and breakthrough singles like “Every Little Thing” and “Hide the Wine,” Pearce was a Dollywood performer. Six times a day, five days a week, Pearce performed in a show that highlighted music from Pigeon Forge, classic country tunes and more modern hits. As the story goes, Pearce persuaded her parents to trade traditional high school for home schooling and move from her native Kentucky to Pigeon Forge to perform at Dollywood. Dollywood wasn’t always in the cards for Pearce, but she saw it as a big opportunity and a step in the right direction toward her ultimate goal. “The plan was how do I get to Nashville, ” Pearce said. “For me, that opportunity came up and allowed me to go and really hone in on my skills as a performer.” Performing at Dollywood, Pearce said, taught her how to make sure her voice was healthy and work with others. It also gave her a chance to see which songs her voice naturally gravitated toward when it came time to pursue a career of her own. Pearce moved to Nashville at 19 and, a few years later, signed publishing and development deals with Sony Records.
