ABSTRACT [Gamochaeta camaquäensis (Asteraceae: Gnaphalieae) a new record from Uruguay] Gamochaeta camaquaensis is added from Uruguay. The mentioned species occurs in Rivera Department, in north of the country, where was gathered in Tranqueras locality. With this novelty, now are 15 species of Gamochaeta in Uruguay. NEW SPECIES OF GAMOCHAETA (ASTERACEAE: GNAPHALIEAE) FROM THE EASTERN UNITED STATES AND COMMENTS ON SIMILAR SPECIES Guy L. Nesom Botanical Research Institute of Texas 509 Pecan Street Fort Worth, Texas 76102-4060, U.S.A. ABSTRACT Gamochaeta argyrinea Nesom, sp. nov., is documented from 19 states, primarily in the southeastern U.S.A., and from Puerto Rico. It is a common and abundant species of ruderal habitats and has usu- ally been identified within a broad concept of Gamochaeta purpurea, which has a similar but broader geographic range. Gamochaeta argyrinea apparently is most closely similar to G. ustulata, another species commonly identified as G. purpurea but native to the Pacific coast region of the U.S.A. and adjacent Canada. Gamochaeta chionesthes Nesom, sp. nov., is described from localities in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, and North Carolina—these plants also have been identified previously primarily as G. purpurea. A key and distribution maps are pro- vided for the six species of Gamochaeta in the U.S.A. with strongly bicolored leaves: G. argyrinea, G. ustulata, G. chionesthes, G. purpurea, G. simplicicaulis, and G. coarctata. The name Gamochaeta americana has been misapplied to G. coarctata, but G. americana sensu stricto has not been docu- mented for the U.S.A.; it occurs in the Antilles, Central America, Mexico, and South America and is reported to occur elsewhere as an adventive. In order to further clarify its identity, a technical de- scription and commentary are provided for G. americana. RESUMEN Se documenta Gamochaeta argyrinea Nesom, sp. nov., de 19 estados, principalmente del Sureste de U.S.A., y de Puerto Rico.

Here we analyze at- titudes toward border Portuguese and that language in general in the Uruguayan territory during the Luso-Brazilian military occupation (1816–1828) and later in the century and identify two parallel realities: a predominant neutral attitude toward Portuguese, as the language was not an object of evaluation; and the ex- istence of negative attitudes toward Portuguese promoted by the authorities in Montevideo.

The New World is one of the centers of diversity of the tribe with 24 genera and over 100 species, most of which form a clade called the Luciliagroup with 21 genera. However, the generic classification of the Luciliagroup has been controversial with no agreement on delimitation or circumscription of genera. Especially controversial has been the taxonomic value of achenial trichomes and molecular studies have shown equivocal results so far. The major aims of this paper are to provide a nearly complete phylogeny of the Lucilia group at generic level and to discuss the evolutionary trends and taxonomic significance of achenial trichome morphology.

The species was first collected in New York in 1938, but the sole specimen was misidentified as Gamochaeta purpurea . Gamochaeta pensylvanica is reported here with specimens from Bronx, Kings, and Queens counties and observations from Nassau County. A key based on living and preserved specimens distinguishing G. purpurea from G. pensylvanica is provided. Of the 12 species of Gamochaeta recognized in North America (Nesom, 2006), only G. purpurea (L.) Cabrera has previously been reported for New York state (Nesom 2006; Weldy et al. 2015), where it has been considered rare (S3) (Weldy et al.

The main characteristic of this ■ group, which is present in the Pampa biome in Southern Brazil and Uruguay, Accepted: 21 December 2014; Published: is beef cattle production based on family work on small lands, expressing an 25 March 2016 autonomous way of life which is, however, highly dependent on strong relations with the physical environment and marked by risk aversion. In this study we made a comparative analysis of vulnerability factors of family livestock farm- ing in Brazil and Uruguay. We also compared these social actors’ perceptions of risks, and the strategies built to mitigate threats. A survey was thus carried out and included 16 family livestock farmers’ interviews, eight in each country, near the cities of Santana do Livramento (Brazil) and Rivera (Uruguay). Although these cities are next to each other on each side of the border and thus present environmental similarities, we chose them because family farming was not sub- jected to the same political and economic conditions which might (or might not) have influenced farmers’ perceptions and reactions. Results showed that live- stock farmers were mainly affected by vulnerabilities arising from external ele- ments such as the climate (e.g.
