If the cultural factors can be interpreted for the foreign visitors in a better way, it’s beneficial to convey the cultural connotation of the scenic spot and it can be the communication more effective. There are many scenic spots in China, to show the beautiful scenery and traditional Chinese culture to the world. Leshan Giant Buddha is one of national 5A tourist attractions in Leshan, Sichuan Province, China, and there are a lot of tourists coming here every year, especially foreign tourists. Therefore, its tourism interpretation shall be better and better. The tourism interpretation of Leshan Giant Buddha concerns many cultural factors. Based on Skopostheorie, this paper discusses how to deal with the cultural factors in guide interpretation of Leshan Grand Buddha from the following three aspects: names of scenic spots, four-character phrases and classical Chinese poetry. AHI 163D Expressions of Originality in Visual Art and Culture of Early Modern China General Itinerary Professor Katharine Burnett University of California, Davis Summer Session I 2010 For AHI 163D in Summer 2010, we will be based in Hangzhou, the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127‐1268), and a center of artistic production from that time on. Hangzhou is one of the most beautiful cities in China. Centered on the picturesque West Lake, it is rimmed with an important museum, teahouses and restaurants, temples with ancient sculptures, pagodas, and tea plantations. We will read Chinese poetry on its shores and take pleasure boat rides to enjoy the views. A series of scientific sessions including plenary and special sessions, and special group meetings, in addition to pre-, 1 INTERRAD XII, FIRST CIRCULAR post-conference and mid-conference field excursions will be organized. Social events and programs will also be arranged. Nanjing is an economic and cultural center in the Jiangsu Province, East China and has an over 2400-years history. Since 220AD ten dynasties or regimes have made their capitals in Nanjing one after another. With its elegant natural setting and rich cultural resources, Nanjing is well known as a tourist attraction. Among hundreds of scenic spots, the most outstanding historic relics for tourism are: the Sun Yatsen Mausoleum, the Ming Emperor’s Tomb, the approximately 1,400 years old Jiming Temple and the Qinhuai River Scenic zone. Two-thirds of the Ancient City Wall of Nanjing is intact, the longest and best-preserved city wall in China. Nanjing Museum of Palaeontology, subordinate to the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, is a modern museum of palaeontology with integrative functions in exhibition, collection, research and education, and opens to the whole public. 2018 International Conference on Culture, Literature, Arts & Humanities (ICCLAH 2018) Research on the Xishu Garden Based on Landscape Identity Dan Wu Chengdu Art Vocational College, Chengdu, Sichuan, 611430, China Keywords: Xishu Garden, Landscape identity, West Sichuan towns Abstract: Xishu Garden is a regional garden located in Sichuan, China, which is an integral part of Chinese garden system. Landscape identity is a problem about the definition and recognition of Xishu Garden's regional style. This paper studied the connotation of landscape identity, Xishu Garden, West Sichuan towns, western Sichuan customs and so on under the landscape scale vision to make a preliminary analysis of the research ideas of Xishu Garden landscape identity. 1. Introduction Sichuan's Humanistic Historical process is unique and complex. Xishu Garden's landscape identification should be regarded as a subject of environmental history. In 1450, Alberti, the first western garden theorist, regarded the relationship between environment and house, which is the relationship between environment and the viewer in it, as the basis of landscape recognition. Therefore, the study of Xishu Garden should be based on the whole human settlement space system, such as Sichuan's natural geography, ecological stage and immigrants from Sichuan, that is, the great vision of Sichuan's urban history. 2. The Connotation of Landscape Identity In Chinese, as to the word scenery, most people tend to appreciate the meaning of leisure. The purpose of this paper is to emphasize the significance of landscape as a social, economic, political and cultural carrier. Like the garden culture of ancient and modern times, the visual reproduction and semantic reproduction of the landscape will make the silent landscape image spread, sound and express the landscape identity of a place. -

Shengguan tu („Tafel der Beamtenkarriere“), eine makkaronische Volksballade aus der mittleren Qing-Zeit Martin Gimm (Köln) Einleitung 1. Das Shengguan tu-Spiel Unter der Bezeichnung Shengguan tu 陞官圖 1 versteht man in erster Instanz ein traditionelles chinesisches Glücksspiel (dubo 賭博 , manjurisch2 mekden), das nach den Quellen und neueren Untersuchungen3 auf das caixuan 彩選 oder bo guan duo 百貫鐸 der Tang-Zeit zurückgehen soll. Hervorgegangen aus der chinesischen Vorstellung, daß Macht und Reichtum für (fast) jeden erreichbar ist, der die staatlichen Prüfungen absolviert und die Beamtenkarriere4 – den „direk- ten Aufstieg zu den weißen Wolken“ (qingyun zhishang 青雲直上 ) – erfolgreich erklommen hat, kommt es bei diesem Hasardspiel darauf an, mit dem Glückserfolg beim Würfeln5 (touzi 骰子 , manjur. sesuku) in immer höherrangige Beamtenpositionen vorzurücken. Der aus Holz oder Papier gefertigte Spielplan ist meist in 64 oder 66 Felder6 unterteilt, die – gruppiert nach den Ministerien und offiziellen Institutionen – mit den Bezeichnungen von jeweils 2 bis 17 Beam- 1 Volkstümlich wird das Zeichen sheng in den Quellen auch 升 oder 昇 geschrieben. 2 Ich bevorzuge die Schreibung “manjurisch” und schließe mich hier dem Gebrauch von BERTHOLD LAUFER, KARL MENGES (man¯u) u. a. an, da diese einerseits der einheimischen Transliteration und üblichen Lesung entspricht – nach der IPA-Transkription ist der ‘j’-Laut eher ein ‚ als ein d – und sich andererseits auch in der universitären Fachbezeichnung “Manjuristik” usw. eingebürgert hat. Die von WALTER FUCHS (in Opposition zu ERICH HAENISCH) ‘erfundene’ Schrei- bung “mandju” etc. entbehrt ebenso wie die auf CONON v. d. GABELENTZ zurückgehende Form “mandschu” (früher “mantschu” u.ä.), die dann von WILHELM GRUBE, ERICH HAENISCH u. -

The problem is mainly caused by the mixed-flow of cyclists and motorist on the road. Separation of cyclists and motorist is the key to solve the problem. Based on the research of the successful examples in Europe and a PEBOSCA inventory analysis of the cycling traffic in Nanjing, a set of suggestion is proposed on how to plan the bicycle network. A bicycle network separated from motor traffic and the planning on a cycling district division is introduced. The proposal also involves the suggestion on combination between cycling and public transport, and the experience route of historical culture and the natural beauty of the landscape. Rethinking, Protecting and Transmitting the Tangible and Intangible Buddhist Spirit of Leshan Giant Buddha Jiaming Luo, Chunjing Zeng 1# Tianxing Road, Leshan City, Sichuan Province P. R. China 614000 [email protected] Abstract. This paper will rethink the meaning of the ‘spirit of the Giant Buddha’ through two aspects. One is to explain the processes of objectification of that spirit; and, revivifying the genius of the creator through analyzing the historical background, Buddhist culture and the natural environment when it was built. The second is to analyze how people or users maintain and enrich the spirit of the Giant Buddha through their understanding and transformation. It will argue that the spirit of Giant Buddha is composed by numerous tangible and intangible “significant forms”, they gathered and accumulated in specific ways to form the spirit of the Giant Buddha, and give the meaning, value and significance “to place”. The paper will point out current protection and management problems, and explore a holistic and appropriate conservation method. Finally, it will discuss on transmitting this spirit in a modern commercial society. Introduction The ‘spirit of place’ refers to the tangible and intangible elements, which give meaning, value and emotion to place. However, the tangible and intangible legacies have been dissociated for a long time due to the lack of recognition of an intangible cultural heritage during the process of protecting the material heritage. Further, the intangible one sometimes was damaged with an emotion of “goodwill” or “unconscious”. The protection of the Leshan Giant Buddha has continuously concentrated on the main body of Buddha statue. -

Yet the bright search light of our scholars, shining down from two thousand years above, has been unable to penetrate definitively into this dark lumber room, hallowed, obscure and mysterious. In any case, the back end of this basement, littered with the ancient paraphernalia of a distant transmission, opens out still further to an even earlier epoch in Central Asia, where everything has long been buried under millennia of sands. The lives traced out in the CDL are not really biography nor are they hagiography. The term hagiography is in any case inappropriate, as it applies to Christian male ecclesiastics who the Church wished to sanctify, often after having martyred them first. Yet ever since Bodhidharma faced Emperor Wu of Liang, holiness in Chan Buddhism has had something of a malodorous air about it; no holiness in the hyper-realm of śūnyatā. If the life-paths recorded in the CDL are neither hagiographies nor biographies, what to style them? Perhaps they are just expedients, pointers to practice. -
