Intro 1996 National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands The Fish and Wildlife Service has prepared a National List of Vascular Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1996 National Summary (1996 National List). The 1996 National List is a draft revision of the National List of Plant Species That Occur in Wetlands: 1988 National Summary (Reed 1988) (1988 National List). The 1996 National List is provided to encourage additional public review and comments on the draft regional wetland indicator assignments. The 1996 National List reflects a significant amount of new information that has become available since 1988 on the wetland affinity of vascular plants. This new information has resulted from the extensive use of the 1988 National List in the field by individuals involved in wetland and other resource inventories, wetland identification and delineation, and wetland research. Interim Regional Interagency Review Panel (Regional Panel) changes in indicator status as well as additions and deletions to the 1988 National List were documented in Regional supplements. The National List was originally developed as an appendix to the Classification of Wetlands and Deepwater Habitats of the United States (Cowardin et al.1979) to aid in the consistent application of this classification system for wetlands in the field.. The 1996 National List also was developed to aid in determining the presence of hydrophytic vegetation in the Clean Water Act Section 404 wetland regulatory program and in the implementation of the swampbuster provisions of the Food Security Act. While not required by law or regulation, the Fish and Wildlife Service is making the 1996 National List available for review and comment. -

Maas-van de Kamer2, L.Y.Th. Westra2 Key words Abstract A taxonomic revision is given of the Neotropical genus Oxandra (Annonaceae). Within the genus 27 spe- cies are recognized, 4 of which are new to science. Most of the species are occurring in tropical South America, Annonaceae whereas a few (6) are found in Mexico and Central America and two in the West Indies (Greater and Lesser Antilles). Neotropics A key to all species is provided. The treatment includes chapters about the history of the genus and morphology. Oxandra All species are fully described, including full synonymy, notes on distribution and ecology, field observations (when taxonomy available), vernacular names (when given), and mostly short notes about relationships of the species concerned. For vernacular names each species a distribution map is made. At the end of the revision a complete list of vernacular names is included. Nigeria [email protected] Abstract: Circumscription of the genus Phyllanthus has been a cause of much confusion and disagreement. The fact that many herbaceous Phyllanthus species grow in similar habitats and share common vernacular names in Nigeria give rise to misidentifications. Field and Herbarium observations of some Phyllanthus species show that there are similarities of highly conspicuous morphological features, making identification of the species difficult. The pollen grain morphology of 18 field specimens comprising 10 Phyllanthus species using light microscope was therefore analysed in the present study with the aim of providing additional information on their taxonomy. The pollen type of the species have 3 – colporate, finely reticulate pollen without much ornamentation. Pollens were prolate, subprolate in shape in all taxa except P. muellerianus which was oblate–spheroidal. The pollen grains ranged in size from small in P. amarus, P. muellerianus, P. maderaspatensis, P. pentandrus and P. reticulatus to medium in P. maderaspatensis, P. capillaris, P. niruroides, P. odontadenius and P. urinaria. The smallest pollen size was observed in P. muellerianus being 12.4m by 13.0m while the largest pollen size was observed in P. capillaris being 31.5m by 23.25m. The colpi length ranged from 12.2m in P. muellerianus to 26.75m in P. urinaria while the percentage polar over equatorial axis ranged from 95.4% in P. -

February 16, 1971 THE ISLAND OF ANEGADA AND ITS nORA The island of Anegada in the British Virgin Islands is of interest because of its isolated location in relation to the Antillean island arc, its unusual topography amongst the Virgin Islands, and also the fact that it has received very little scientific attention. It now seems destined to join the list of islands which have succumbed to modern "development". This checklist combines past published reports with the writer's own collections and attempts to correct the nomenclature formerly applied to this flora. THE ISLAND Anegada is the northeasternmost of the British Virgin Islands and of the entire West Indian arc for that matter, vying with the rocky lighthouse, Sombrero, well to the southeast, as the closest Antillean approach to Europe. Its geographic coordinates are 18'45'N and 64°20'W, and it encompasses 14.987 square miles (Klumb and Robbins 1960) or about 33 square km. In shape it is a rather lumpy crescent with its long axis running approximately west by north and east by south. The nearest land, Virgin Gorda, some thirteen miles (ca 22 km) to the south and slightly west, is a prominent feature on the horizon (Fig. I), as is the mass of the other Virgins--Tortola, Camanoe and Jost Van Dyke-- further to the southwest. To the north and east there is no land for a long way. -

McPhee Received: 28 June 2018; Accepted: 14 July 2018; Published: 18 July 2018 Abstract: This work has been intended to investigate the antioxidant properties of compounds extracted from seeds of Sterculia apetala (a plant from Central America) in order to add further results to the relatively poor existing literature on the beneficial properties of this plant. Different extraction methodologies were used such as batch or continuous extraction conditions using water or ethanol 50% as solvents. The kinetic study has allowed estimation of the effective diffusion coefficients in a continuous solid-liquid extraction, highlighting the strict dependence of the diffusion rate and temperature and kind of solvent, showing the highest diffusion rate with ethanol 50% at 60 ◦C. The comparison between different techniques and two solvents led to the selection of water as the best extraction solvent while batch mechanically-agitated extraction was the most efficient mode, with the benefits of use of an environmental-friendly solvent and reduction in process time to achieve a high amount of extracted phenolic compounds.
