E-mail: [email protected] 1Corresponding author Abstract Five species of aglaopheniid hydroids (Aglaophenopsis cornuta, Cladocarpus diana, C. formosus, C. integer, and Nema- tocarpus ramuliferus) were collected from the Flemish Cap, Flemish Pass, and Grand Banks of Newfoundland during sur- veys with bottom trawls, rock dredges, and scallop gear. All are infrequently reported species, with C. diana being discovered for the first time since its original description from Iceland. We document here the southernmost collections of C. diana and N. ramuliferus, both previously unknown in the western Atlantic. Each of the five species is described and illustrated based on fertile material, a key is provided for their identification, and bathymetric distributions are noted. Known depth ranges are extended for A. cornuta, C. diana, and C. -

Rajaram Assistant professor, Marine Genomics and Barcoding Lab, Department of Marine Science, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli – 620024.Tamil Nadu, India ABSTRACT The study has been conducted for the collection of hydrozoa species in Gulf of Mannar coast, Tamil Nadu, Southeastern India and investigate their occurrence in related to coral reef health assessment. During the study period of February 2017,the Macrorhynchia philippina species associated on the dead /degraded reef flats and absence in the healthy reef. The increased occurrence of M. Philippina colonies were observed based on the substratum availability of dead coral reef. The study has reviled, the M.Phiippina preferably grow on the dead reef part and the increased occurrence act as the indicator species for the reef health assessment. KEY WORDS: Hydrozoa, Macrorhynciha philippina, Coral associate, Reef health. INTRODUCTION Hydrozoa, the most inconspicuous species, which is one of the most voracious feedersinbenthic marine ecosystem.Also the most reported species in terms of complex lifecycle stages. Among the reported hydozoa, Aglaopheniidae, is the most specious family comprising ≈250 valid species having the wide range of geographic distributional record in tropical and temperature seas (Bouillon et al., 2006). The epibiont organisms will grow on the substrate of dead coral, gorgonian and submerged ropes (Di Camillo et al. 2009).A few works, in related to their occurrence on coral reefs andtheir health were reported recently. -

En general los caracteres morfológicos de las especies estudiadas no presentaron diferencias significativas con respecto a las descripciones taxonómicas realizadas por otros autores . Rene Cassin, BP 7151 97715 Saint-Denis Messag Cedex 9, La Reunion Nicole.garnier-Bonnet@univ-reunioJr Introduction From a brief survey of the literature, it appears that until now only two articles were published dur ing the last century by specialists that are dealing with New Caledonian hydroids. The first was by Redier (1966). From samples collected by Yves Plessis, he described 25 species (including 5 vari eties), all already known. Most of them were from the littoral zone and were collected at low tide; a few were from deeper waters (to 40 m depth). The second article was published later on by Vervoort (1993) who studied representatives of the family Sertulariidae in several collections of the Natural History Museum of Paris. The specimens mostly originated from the following oceanographic cruis es: Biocal (1985), Lagon (1984, 1985 and 1989), Musorstom 4 (1985), Chalcal 2 (1986), Biogeocal (1988), Smib 2 (1986), 4 and 5 (1989) and 6 (1990), with two additional sites, a station of the "Vauban" (1978) and a dive of H. Zibrowius (1989). Vervoort recorded 57 species of which 39 were new to Science. Most of the biological material from these cruises came from deep water: only 6 sta tions were from depths between 28 and 57m, and 77 were from a greater depth (125-860m). More recently, Laboute & Richer de Forges (2004) published a book illustrating the high biodiversi ty ofNew Caledonia with many in situ photographs ofmarine plants and animals. -

Previous phylogenetic analyses show strong support for Hydroidolina monophyly, but the relationships between and within its subgroups remain uncertain. In an effort to further clarify hydroidolinan relationships, we performed phylogenetic analyses on 97 hydroidolinan taxa, using DNA sequences from partial mitochondrial 16S rDNA, nearly complete nuclear 18S rDNA and nearly complete nuclear 28S rDNA. Our findings are consistent with previous analyses that support monophyly of Siphonophorae and Leptothecata and do not support monophyly of Anthoathecata nor its component subgroups, Filifera and Capitata. Instead, within Anthoathecata, we find support for four separate filiferan clades and two separate capitate clades (Aplanulata and Capitata sensu stricto). Our data however, lack any substantive support for discerning relationships between these eight distinct hydroidolinan clades.
