Cal-Davis actually had 610 total yards in that game, and two critical turnovers Offense: Jordan Johnson, QB in the red zone. Montana State is very prolific on offense, but Cal-Davis really performed well Defense: Kenrick Van Ackeren, LB on offense as well. Special Teams: DNA

“They changed quarterbacks and they’ve got (running back Gabe) Manzanares back, and Sept. 6 (Central Washington) they look like a different team on offense than they did earlier in the season. On defense, Offense: Travon Van, RB they’re solid and they do not do a lot. They are a four-man front, with two or three backers in Defense: Zack Wagenmann, DE the box, depending on your personnel. Sept. 13 (South Dakota) “This is a game, that on paper as everybody looks at it, that they’re coming in here and they Offense: Jordan Canada, RB are not a good football team. That is probably the furthest thing from the truth. Coach (Ron) Defense: Zack Wagenmann, DE** Gould has done a great job. They’re getting better. They have 18 starters back and they are Special Teams: None still a pretty young football team. We expect to have everything that we can handle this weekend.” Sept. 20 (at N. Dakota State) Offense: None THOUGHTS ON THE OPEN WEEK: “It was a positive for us. I think it was great for the Defense: Jeremiah Kose, LB players and it was great for the coaches. We dove in here in early August and really haven’t Special Teams: Stephen Shaw, P taken a break since this past weekend. It was a much-needed break for everybody.” Sept. 27 (Northern Colorado) Offense: Jordan Johnson, QB WHAT DO YOU THINK THE KEYS TO THE GAME WILL BE: “We’ve got to get our running Defense: Zack Wagenmann, DE game going, and that will be the same answer every week, day-in and day-out. It’s a daily Special Teams: Addison Owen, DE work in progress, and we’ve just got to figure out a way that we can run the ball adequately so that we can use our play-action game and don’t have to be in a drop-back mode all of the time. Oct. 5 (at North Dakota) That’s going to be one of the keys obviously. Offense: Jamaal Jones, WR Defense: Zack Wagenmann, DE** “And then we’ve got to stop their run game too, but shoot, they threw the ball for almost 400 Special Teams: Robert Luke, OC yards (379) against Montana State. Like I said, 610 yards against anybody is a heck of an offensive out-put. We’re going to have to be sharp on defense, and we’ve been that way. Oct. 18 (UC Davis) Special teams look like they are about even, and we’ve got to be good there, and hopefully get Offense: an advantage there.” Defense: Special Teams: ON THE WIN AT UND: “It was a must-win, and I think like everything in athletics — the past seems like eons ago, and the future seems like it’s here before you can blink. Going back to Oct. 25 (at Cal Poly) that game, it was a great morale-booster for our guys. We preach so much to never give up Offense: that there’s always a chance to win no matter what, and our guys believe in that. I think that Defense: was evidence of their belief and resolve, and their ability to leave Grand Forks with a victory.” Special Teams:

SKY NOTES (by Jon Kasper, BSC) SCHOOL RECORDS FOR OFFENSE: Idaho State and Montana State both set school records for total offense in victories last Saturday. ISU rolled up 770 yards of offense in a 66-14 win over Division II Simon Fraser. The 770 yards are the most by an FCS team this season. ISU quarterback Justin Arias was 30-of-31 passes for 404 yards and five TDs. MSU amassed a school record 737 yards of total offense in a 77-37 conference win over UC Davis. The 77 points are the second-most in school history. UC Davis gained 610 yards of total offense in the loss. The Big Sky and FCS record for total offense by one team in a game is 876 by Weber State in 1985 against Idaho State.

ALL-PURPOSE PLAYER: Cal Poly quarterback Chris Brown became the first player in the Mustangs’ Division I history to rush for a touchdown, throw for a touchdown and catch a touchdown in a game. Brown accomplished the trifecta in Cal Poly’s 30-24 win over Weber State. Brown scored on a 1-yard run in the second quarter, threw an 11-yard TD pass to Kori Garcia in the second quarter, and caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Garcia in the third quarter. His reception on Saturday was the first of his career.

FIRST START, NO JITTERS: Southern Utah sophomore Jordan West and UC Davis sophomore Ben Scott started for the first time in their careers on Saturday. West, subbing for injured All-American Vernon Adams, Jr., guided the No. 2 Eagles to a 42-30 road win over Southern Utah. West completed 20-of-27 passes for 288 yards with three TDs and one pick. Scott, who replaced former senior starter London Lacy, completed 27-of-46 passes for 379 yards with four touchdowns and one interception.

FINDING WAYS TO SCORE: North Dakota has scored either a defensive or special teams touchdown in four consecutive games. Alex Tillman kept the streak alive when he returned a punt 95 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of UND’s 24-16 win over Portland State. With three wins, UND has matched its win total from the entire 2013 season.

KRAMER ALONE IN THIRD: Idaho State coach Mike Kramer notched his 86th career win last week to move into sole possession of third place on the Big Sky’s all-time victories list. He entered Saturday’s game against Simon Fraser tied with former Montana coach with 85 wins. Nevada’s Chris Ault won 111 games, while current NAU coach is second with 96 victories.
