ORDINANCE NO. 003-177 AN ORDINANCE ADOPTING A SECOND 180-DAY EXPERIMENT TO BUS ROUTES #11, #93, #96, #200, #201, #202, #203, #204, #205 AND #206 WHEREAS, The Chicago Transit Board adopted Ordinance No. 003-53 which authorized service modifications on bus routes #11, #93, #96, #200 and #201 on an experimental basis; and

WHEREAS, Bus routes #202, #203 and #204 were consolidated into the new bus routes #205 and #206 on an experimental basis; and

WHEREAS, The modifications were implemented by the Authority as 180- day experiments; and

WHEREAS, The experiment encompasses the routes as a whole group, as opposed to each individual route, as one experiment because a change to one of the routes could impact one or more of the others; and

WHEREAS, The experimental period for the routes will end in December 2003; and

WHEREAS, Ridership numbers and public comment received shows that additional changes are needed on routes #96 and #201; and

WHEREAS, Staff recommends adopting a second 180-day experiment to evaluate the impacts of service changes on routes #96 and #201; now therefore:

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CHICAGO TRANSIT BOARD OF THE CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY:

SECTION 1. The Chicago Transit Board hereby authorizes the President to adopt a second 180-day experiment for the following routes, operating as follows:

#11 Lincoln

Operate certain northbound trips from the present southern terminal along the existing northbound routing to the present north terminal, continue north on N. Kedzie Avenue to W. Howard Street, west on W. Howard Street to the CTA bus turnaround located at W. Howard Street and McCormick Boulevard, and returning following the same reverse pattern.

#93 North California

Change the route name to California/Dodge.

Operate certain northbound trips from the present south terminal along the current routing to W. Howard Street and N. California Avenue, north on N. California Avenue to Dodge Avenue, north on Dodge Avenue to Emerson Street, east on Emerson Street to Maple Avenue, south on Maple Avenue to Church Street, east on Church Street to Benson Avenue, south on Benson Avenue to the bus terminal at the Davis Street Purple Line Station. Certain southbound trips operate south on Benson Avenue to Davis Street, west on Davis Street to Oak Avenue, north on Oak Avenue to Church Street, east on Church Street to Maple Avenue and returning following the same reverse pattern to the southern terminal at N. Kimball Avenue and W. Lawrence Avenue.

#96 Lunt

Operate certain westbound trips from the present east terminal, west along the current routing to W. Touhy Avenue and N. Kedzie Avenue, continue west along W. Touhy Avenue to the Lincolnwood Town Center north entrance, operating over and along the Lincolnwood Town Center roadways to the east exit, south on McCormick Boulevard to W. Devon Avenue, east on W. Devon Avenue to the CTA terminal at W. Devon Avenue and N. Kedzie Avenue, and returning following the same reverse pattern to the east terminal.

#200 Main Shuttle

Operate certain eastbound trips from the Chicago Transit Authority Main Street Purple Line Station south along Chicago Avenue to Kedzie Street, east on Kedzie Street to Hinman Avenue, north on Hinman Avenue to Main Street, west on Main Street to Central Park Avenue, south on Central Park Avenue to Madison Street, west on Madison Street to Monticello Avenue, north on Monticello Avenue to Main Street, east on Main Street to Chicago Avenue, south on Chicago Avenue to the Chicago Transit Authority Main Street Purple Line Station.

Change the route name to Central/Ridge.

Operate certain northbound trips from the present south terminal to W. Howard Street, continuing west on W. Howard Street to Ridge Avenue, north on Ridge Avenue to Church Street, east on Church Street to Chicago Avenue, northeast on Chicago Avenue to Sheridan Road, north on Sheridan Road to Central Street, west on Central Street to Gross Point Road, southwest on Gross Point Road to Old Orchard Road, west on Old Orchard Road to the Old Orchard Mall, operating over and along the Mall roadways and returning following the same reverse pattern to Chicago Avenue and Church Street, continuing south on Chicago Avenue to Davis Street, west on Davis Street to Ridge Avenue, south on Ridge Avenue to N. Clark Street, south on N. Clark Street to N. Rogers Avenue, northeast on N. Rogers Avenue to the current south terminal.

SECTION 2. These changes shall be implemented when the necessary operating arrangements have been completed.

SECTION 3. The experimental demonstration project shall be inaugurated as an experiment for up to 180 days. Staff shall elicit public comment during the course of the experimental demonstration project and shall report its findings to the Transit Board at the end of the project.

SECTION 4. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage.
