RAPID NEEDS ASSESMENT REPORT Out-of-site locations in Una Sana, Tuzla and Sarajevo Canton Bosnia and Herzegovina September, 2020 | 1 This assessment has been carried out in order to update the Danish Refugee Council’s mapping of needs of migrants and asylum seekers’ (people of concern) staying outside of formal reception capacities in Una Sana Canton, Tuzla Canton and Sarajevo Canton, with a focus on access to food, WASH and protection issues. Besides the assessment, available secondary sources were also consulted for capturing as accurate a picture as possible. ProMedia II/Bosnia and Herzegovina Program Report Quarter 3, FY 2003 April 1 – June 30, 2003 Cooperative Agreement No. 168-A-00-99-00103-00 July 31, 2003 I. Executive Summary In the third quarter of FY 2003, IREX continued the work started in October 1999 under ProMedia II/Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cooperative Agreement No. 168-A-00-99-00103- 00. As outlined in the program description and proposal to USAID, IREX’s strategy concentrates on developing capacity and sustainability for independent media. While a number of factors in Bosnia directly inhibit the possibilities for sustainability (a weak economy, nationalism, corruption, etc.), IREX has developed an approach that focuses on four Intermediate Results (I.R.s) that contribute to the development of a professional and sustainable independent media: 1. Effective business and strategic management; 2. Objective, fact-based and useful news and information; 3. A legal and regulatory framework that supports free speech; 4. Institutions that function in the professional interests of independent media. IREX has continued its work in these four areas, concentrating on its key clients, particularly Banja Luka-based newspaper Nezavisne Novine and smaller client papers, such as Start and Prezent. In the broadcast sector, IREX works regularly with NTV Hayat and ATV Banja Luka, as well as Radio TNT, Radio Nes and others. The highlights presented below demonstrate that IREX is making strides in solidifying the continued progress of long-term clients likely to succeed in a competitive free-market media environment. In particular, IREX has devoted substantial effort to the Mreza Plus television network project, a collaborative venture with input and financing from USAID, the Open Society Institute, Press Now, and the Swedish Helsinki Committee. -

The situation of the system before the 1992-1995 war 1.0. Historical overview 1.1. Beginnings of public education system: the Austro- Hungarian period The tradition of public education under the auspices of government (i.e. state-controlled) in Bosnia and Herzegovina has had its origin in the times of the Austro-Hungarian rule in these parts, in the period commencing after 1878 and ending in 1918. In the previous time, the education was almost exclusively restricted to the religious communities and the types of schools they had offered included a rather limited number of pupils. Certain attempts towards modernization of education by the failing Ottoman government in Bosnia in 1860s by the Governor (vali) Topal Osman Pasha could not be seen as the systematic introduction to the system of public education. Nevertheless, the process of growing self- identification of the four major religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina (Islamic, Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox and Jewish) in the course of 19th century affected their self-awareness as future nations-in- making (Bosniaks /Bosnian Moslems/, /Bosnian/ Serbs, /Bosnian/ Croats and Jews, respectively). The call for religious, cultural and educational autonomy in all these communities was equalized with their different political ambitions and goals. -

The Mid-Bosnian Schist Mountains and the surrounding river valleys of Vrbas, Lašva, and Bosna together with their tributaries characterise the landscape of this region. In terms of evidence from the Early Iron Age period (800–500 BC), the majority comes from the long-term excavations in the hillfort site Pod near Bugojno. The preliminary reports point to well-organised, long lasting and densely built up hillfort settlement with rectangular houses of similar size. Based on the numerous iron slag finds from recently discovered settle- ments of Čolaci and Zenepići, it can be inferred that some of the sites in Central Bosnia were intensively involved in the metal processing activity. Mortuary practices of the Early Iron Age communities are largely unknown since thus far, not a single intact burial was properly documented.
