(2012) 7-25 A CONSTITUTIONALLY ENTRENCHED APPROACH TO CONFLICT MANAGEMENT: THE NIGERIAN EXPERIMENT Olaolu S. Opadere* ABSTRACT For diverse reasons humanity has become rife with conflict, the resolution of which is often cost-enormous with incredible and virtually indelible scares in its trail. However, as long as there remains interaction, there must be conflict, which in itself is an essential component of a free society in which everyone has the right to compete for advantages. Realising therefore, that there is no monopoly of approach to managing conflict, this discourse is poised to explore the constitutionally entrenched Nigerian approach. This thesis proposes that nations are diverse and peculiar to the extent of their diversities; and in the same manner should be their search for means of conflict control and management. Hence this discourse is structured to consider conflict management; federal character principle-its historical perspective vis-a-vis quota system; legal and institutional bases for the principle; its successes and challenges, among others; and conclusion. INTRODUCTION AS LONG as there is interaction between persons, organisations, communities, states and/or nations, conflict is bound to arise as a natural by- product of such interactions, of course, with varying degrees and dimensions. Therefore, in order to avoid the cost of conflict, which is usually enormous, and the eventual search for means of resolution, the need for conflict management becomes absolutely pertinent. Conflict management ordinarily involves implementing strategies to limit the negative aspects of conflict and to increase its positive aspects at a level equal to or higher than where the conflict is taking place. In other words, conflict management is the principle that all conflicts cannot necessarily be resolved, but learning how to manage conflicts can decrease the odds of non-productive escalation. It is however common knowledge among conflict management scholars that there is no one best approach to lead and/or manage conflict; against which backdrop this study seeks to examine the peculiar Nigerian experiment on the management of conflict, which is a variant of affirmative action. Importantly, every affirmative action structure is more an attempt at conflict management than resolution.

    Report of the Activities Organized by Silizium‐Electronics Society Department of Electronics, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College March 2014‐March 2015 September 05, 2014 The Inaugural Function for Electronics Society “Silizium” was held on 05‐Sep‐2014 in Seminar Hall. The Programme started at 10.00am with a Welcome Address by Ankita Chugh, a student of B.Tech Electronics Sem III followed by Lamp Lighting. Dr Poonam Kasturi, Convener for the Inaugural Function formally introduced Dr. Anand Kumar Sethi to the gathering. Dr. Anand Kumar Sethi unveiled the Society Name, Logo and Tagline. It was followed by an enlightening talk by Dr. Sethi on “Electronics in India : Past, Present & Future”. PRASADAND INDIRANATH Department of Pathology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi-110029, India PLATEXV SUMMARY.The factors influencing the incorporation of 3H-thymidine (3H-Tdr) in the DNA of Mycobacterium leprae within macrophages derived from human blood have been evaluated. Fifty strains of M. leprae derived from skin nodules of patients with lepromatous leprosy were studied for their ability to incorporate 3H-Tdr. Control macro- phages of the same donor maintained alone, or with autoclaved M. leprae, showed low levels of baseline 3H-Tdr incorporation. During a 15-day period of pulsing, 27 of the M. leprae strains incorporated 3H-Tdr at levels of 2 162834% of the incorporation by control cultures. Significant incorporation was observable by the second week of culture and cumulative increases occurred by the third week. A 24-h pulse with 3H-Tdr was inadequate for a detectable increase. A minimal duration of 4-5 days of continuous pulsing was required to obtain a significant increase in the incorporation of 3H-Tdr. Of the 50 M. leprae strains, 23 (46%) failed to incorporate the radiolabel. This failure was apparently not related to differences in the disease status of patients, to the transport conditions for the biopsies, to morphological indices of the extracted M.
