The attempt at Saturday night's Chicago concert to raise money for Bob Morgan's legal defense fund was damn near an exercise in futility. It revealed the social conscience of a good cross-section of America's youth. Few have it. True, there was some confusion as to what was going on. But few took the trouble to listen. Most people were concerned with hearing Chicago. A good time. They weren't ready for something that real to hit them. Perhaps t hey don't realize that ten thousand young people don't assemble every day in one place in Montana. How many felt a sense of unity and sol idarity with each other, us, the " Last Great Hope of America?" The plea of the American Indian was a rude effrontery to many. Parac is a 1954 graduate of Montana State and has been a member of the athletic department staff 15 years He was named head football coach in 1968 and immediately directed the Bobcats to a 6-4 record and a piece of the Big Sky Conference championship In 1971 he resigned as football coach to devote full time to administrative duties. "It takes many people to make a successful organization," Parac says. " I feel fortunate that MSU has a fine group of coaches and athletes and a progressive administration Also, we receive much support and assistance from 1he many great friends of the university from around the state." Parac, well liked by all with whom he has worked, is known as an excellent organizer and one who pays attention to every detail. He has come up with fresh ideas to help keep the Bobca t athletic program moving Parac has had a long career at MSU. Except for service as an Army artillery officer. he has been at MSU continuously since 1950.

The district honors were bestowed upon him by the American Football Coaches Association. In only his second year as head coach Holland directed Montana State to the 72 Big Sky Championship and an overall record of 8-3. Though the football program at MSU clearly revolves around Holland, he is always quick to credit his players and assistant coaches for the successes his Coach teams achieve. No Montana State football figure is more closely identified with the Bobcat gridiron program than Holland. He enrolled at MSU in 1956 and was the center on the school's only unbeaten football team. Three years ago Bobcat fans voted him the outstanding Bobcat player in history. Sonny Holland Holland, 35, has had a successful 12-year coaching career. He was an assistant coach at Bozeman High School. then served as both a graduate assistant and full-time assistant at MSU. Holland's first head coaching job was at Great Falls High School in 1966. He directed the team to an 8-1 record and the league co-championship. In 1967 Holland coached at Great Falls Russell High School and the team was 5-5. Holland returned to the college coaching ranks in 1968 as a member of Jim Sweeney's staff at Washington State. In 1969 he returned to Montana, becoming head coach at Western Montana College 1n Dillon. Western won the Frontier Conference champion­ ship and Holland was voted league " Coach of the Year. " In the spring of 1970 Holland returned to Montana State to Join Tom Parac's staff as first assistant and offensive line coach. He was elevated to the head Job in the spring of 1971 when Parac moved out of football to devote full time to his duties of athletic director.

Montana State's new stadium is named after Reno H. Sales, the leading financial contributor to Bobcat football before his death in May of 1969. He was often referred to as "Mr. Bobcat."" Mr. Sales was a member of MSU's first football team in 1897 and was the only membef of the graduating class of 1898. He received a bachelor's degree in general science. In 1935 MSU conferred upon him an honorary doctor of science degree in recognition of his achievements as a geologist-scientist. Mr. Sales retired in the late 1940s after serving 41 years as the chief geologist for the Anaconda Copper Mining Co . He was one of Montana·s leading philanthropists. Many of his gifts were anonymous and covered a wide range of fields including research in mining, the humanities, athletics and in late life. medicine and hospitals. One of his last gifts to Montana State University was $50,000 in the form of oil company stock to be used to build a new football stadium.
