TONIGHT The Avalanche hosts the Dallas Stars this evening at Pepsi Center. Tonight is the second half of a back-to-back for the Avs, who defeated the Coyotes 5-1 last night in Glendale to cap off a 3-0 road trip. It marked the first time Colorado swept a three-game road trip since Dec. 12-15, 2015 (at NSH, STL, CHI). The Avs scored 16 goals in the three wins. Colorado is 5-0-1 in its last six contests and has won four straight on the road. The Avs, who are in the midst of a stretch that has them playing 19-of-28 away from home, will hit the road again tomorrow for a quick one-game trip to Nashville. Last night ended a stretch of 14-of-20 on the road.

BACK-TO-BACK The Avs are playing their third back-to-back set of the season, as they host the Stars tonight after winning 5-1 in Arizona last night. Colorado is 2-1-0 on the first game and 0-1-1 on the second game. The Avs are scheduled for 11 back-to-back games in 2018-19.

SHORT AND TO THE POINT In his first game back from injury, J.T. Compher scored two shorthanded goals on the same penalty kill in the first period of last night's victory in Arizona. Compher's effort tied the franchise record for shorthanded goals in a game (fourth time) and a period (second time). He set a new franchise record for the fastest two shorthanded goals (1:25) and became the first player in franchise history to score two SHG on the same opponent power-play chance. Compher became the 20th NHL player to score two shorthanded goals in a span of two minutes or less since 1933-34 and just the fourth in the past 15 years, joining Michael Grabner (2013-14), Tobias Rieder (2014-15) and Chris Tierney (2017-18). YOUR LEAGUE LEADER Mikko Rantanen leads the NHL in scoring with 36 points (9g/27a), the most ever by an Avalanche player through the first 22 games of a season. The previous mark was 33 points by Joe Sakic through 22 contests in 1996-97. Rantanen was leading all players with 34 points at U.S. Thanksgiving. Since the team relocated to Denver in 1995, the only other time an Avalanche player led the NHL in scoring on the morning of U.S. Thanksgiving was in 1996-97, when Sakic and Peter Forsberg were co-leading the league with 35 points. However, in 2003-04, Alex Tanguay took over the scoring lead with three assists on Thanksgiving night in Calgary to lead all players with 31 points at the time. Rantanen was the first NHL player to reach the 30-point mark this season, joining Forsberg (1997- 98) and Sakic (1998-99) as the only Avalanche/Nordiques skaters to be the first NHL players to reach 30 points in a season. Mikko has held at least a share of the NHL scoring lead for each of the last 33 days since the morning of Oct. 23. He’s been the outright leader for 27 of those 33 days.

LINE OF FIRE Colorado's top line of Gabriel Landeskog (2g/3a)—Nathan MacKinnon (2g/5a)—Mikko Rantanen (2g/5a) combined for 19 points on Colorado's 3-0 road trip. The trio has combined for 94 points (37g/57a) in 22 contests this season, the most points of any three teammates in the NHL. Rantanen-MacKinnon rank 1-2 in League scoring and are by far the most frequent point pair in the NHL, as 29 times they've BOTH been involved in a goal. They were just the third set of teammates since 1985-86 to rank first and second in League scoring through 331 games of a season. Stamkos and Kucherov also did so in 2017-18, while Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and Ron Francis held the top three slots in 1995-96. This is only the fifth time in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history that two players from the same team hit 30 points within the club’s first 21 games of a season. Colorado’s threesome has factored on 46 of 83 goals this season (55%). Rantanen leads the league in assists (27), MacKinnon and Landeskog are tied for fifth in goals (14) and Landeskog shares the league lead in plus/minus (+15).

STREAKING Tyson Barrie has a seven-game point streak (3g/6a) and has 15 points (3g/12a) with a +10 rating over his last 12 contests. He ranks third among NHL defensemen in plus/minus (+13), is tied for fourth in assists (17) and tied for fifth in points (20).

GETTING OFFENSIVE The Avs are the highest scoring team in the league, averaging 3.77 goals-per-game. Colorado scored 16 goals on its just completed three-game road trip, including a season-high seven tallies on Wednesday in Los Angeles. That was the fifth time that Colorado has scored six or more goals this season, tied with Tampa for the most of any team. The Avs are tied for the league lead in third-period goals (33) and are leading all teams in combined second and third-period scoring (62).

THAT'S THE POWER OF LOVE The Avalanche owns the NHL's best power play at 32.0% (24/75). Colorado's 24 goals also lead all teams. The power-play unit went 6-for-11 (54.5%) on its 3-0 roadtrip and is 9-for-16 (56.3%) over the last five contests.

ROAD WARRIORS The Avs have won four straight on the road and are now tied with Toronto for the most away points in the league (18). Colorado's four- game road win streak is its longest since 2015-16. The Avs have scored 57 goals on the road, by far the most of any team.

VARLY REACHES 200 Semyon Varlamov picked up his 200th career victory on Wednesday night in Los Angeles, becoming only the fifth Russian goaltender in NHL history to reach 200 wins. Varly owns a 200-155-43 career record with a 2.64 GAA, .917 Sv% and 23 shutouts in 413 games. He is 170-142-31 with a 2.68 GAA, .917 Sv% and 19 shutouts in 354 contests with the Avalanche, ranking second in franchise history in nearly every category.

GRAND OLD TIME Colorado's 4-3 overtime victory in Anaheim on Nov. 18th marked the Avalanche's 1,000th win since moving to Denver in 1995. The 1,000 wins included 898 in the regular season and 102 in the playoffs. The Avs, who posted their 900th regular season win last night in Arizona, now own a 900-671-101-120 record in the regular season. Only five other teams have won 1,000 or more games since Avalanche arrived in the Mile High City.

SEEING STARS Rantanen was named the NHL's First Star of the Month for October. He paced the NHL with 21 points (5g/16a) in 12 games, tying Joe Sakic's Avalanche scoring record for the month of October set in 1996-97. Rantanen's league-leading 16 helpers also equaled an Avalanche record for October and were the most in a single month by a Colorado player since 2002-03 (Peter Forsberg 3x). Rantanen and Landeskog tied for the league lead with a +14 rating, an Avalanche record for October, and the best by a Colorado player in any month since Rob Blake was +14 in March 2006. Mikko was the first Avs player to lead the NHL in scoring through the end of October since Sakic in 1996-97.

RECORD OCTOBER FOR LANDY AS WELL Landeskog led the team with 10 goals last month, setting a new Avalanche record for the month of October (since 1995-96). He was the first franchise player to reach double-digits in goals during the month of October since Owen Nolan (13) with Quebec in 1991. Landeskog led the NHL with four game-winning goals in October, matching the Avalanche record for GWG in any month.

LET'S GO STREAKING MacKinnon and Rantanen tallied points in each of their first nine games, matching the longest scoring streak to begin a season in Avalanche history (John-Michael Liles, 2010-11). Mikko and Nathan were the first set of teammates in Avalanche/Nordiques franchise history to open a season with simultaneous nine-game point streaks. MacKinnon scored a goal in each of his first six games, Oct. 4- 16, setting a franchise record for the longest goal streak to begin a season (previous: five by Mats Sundin in 1992-93.

THIS DAY IN AVS HISTORY Nov. 24, 2001 - Ray Bourque’s #77 jersey was retired by the Avalanche in a pre-game ceremony prior to Colorado's 2-0 victory over the Oilers.
