Champagne Pol Roger champagne pol roger Distinction and elegance. Established in 1849, Pol Roger is the "Gentlemen’s Champagne, as Jean Paul Kauffman wrote in ‘Voyage en Champagne". It is not surprising therefore the British Royal family should have made it their favourite over the years. The winery and cellars are located on the celebrated and noble Avenue de Champagne in Epernay, in the very place Alsace where the heart of Champagne beats. The purity and nobility of Champagne Pol Roger is also the fruit of know-how passed down from generation to generation. From the harvest in the region’s best vineyards to the painstaking work in the cellar, each gesture has its importance. www.polroger.com

Famille Hugel famille hugel Famille Hugel, founded in 1639 in Riquewhir, is still 100% family-owned and managed by the 12th generation. Annual production of 110,000 cases comes from 70 acres of family estate and 300 acres farmed under contract. Over 90% is exported, to more than 100 countries worldwide, especially to Asia, and the distinctive yellow Hugel label was first seen in Singapore 75 years ago. Alsace's unique climate allows grapes to ripen slowly, giving dry, aromtic wines with great finesse and intensity, making them a perfect match to contemporary European and Asian styles of cusine. Hugel wines express the pure character of each Alsace grape variety, without oak or sweetening, and the family pioneered the rare late-harvest Vendange Tardive and Selection de Grains Nobles wines. www.hugel.com Label Practices Rating Vintage Size(ml) Avail. Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron domaine jean-jacques confuron Ranked amongst the stars of Burgundy reds, Jean-Jacques Confuron is currently helmed by fourth generation – Alain and Sophie Meunier. The husband and wife team took over the reins in 1988 from Sophie’s father. The Confurons have about 8.5 hectares of vines in 14 appellations, all in Cote de Nuits which includes several vineyards in prestigious Chambolle Musigny Premier Cru, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru, Clos de Vougeot and Romanee-Sain-Vivant Grand Cru. The Confurons have probably the oldest vines in Chambolle-Musigny at over 80 years old.

A firm believer in caring for the soil and vineyard, Alain started ploughing the vineyards by horse since 2003. All the vineyards are organically managed. The Confurons produces 95% Pinot Noir, 3% Chardonnay and 2% Aligote.

Comtes Lafon

comtes lafon The Estate as it exists today was largely established by Jules Lafon and it is important to distinguish the parcels originating from the Marie Boch inheritance (some of which have since been sold, particularly those of generic Burgundy), from other land bought or exchanged; The Boch Inheritance and les achats ou échanges. At present, the vines and buildings are owned by ‘The Domaine des Comtes Lafon’, a limited company whose shareholders are descendants of Jules Lafon. All vineyards are entirely managed by the Estate.

Jean-Louis Chave Domaine Jean - Louis Chave The Chave residence and cellars are on the other side of the river from Hermitage, in the village of Mauves, between Tournon and Cornas. This is within the Saint Joseph appellation boundaries, and Chave now makes a tiny amount of Saint Joseph from local grapes, mainly for family and friends.

Almost all the Chave vineyards are in Hermitage, dotted all over the hill, with plots in 9 of the 18 climats. White grapes are grown in Les Rocoules, L’Hermite, Peléat and Maison Blanches. The backbone of the red blend comes from a significant 2 hectare holding in Les Bessards, supplemented by 6 other climats.

Maison Nicolas Perrin maison nicolas perrin Maison Nicolas Perrin is the meeting of two approaches of the wine: emotional and instinctive, built on know-how acquired through generations in both regions of Cotes de Rhone. In the south, the Perrin family transmits the art of blending, capable of creating a larger building than the simple sum of the parts that compose it. North, Nicolas Jaboulet, a northern Rhone man brings knowledge of terroirs, soil and winemakers who work them. Maison Nicolas Perrin produces wines of the Northern Rhone. On these appellations of great renown, the work of the assembly and livestock is true greatness in terms of the diversity and complexity of soils and climate between Vienne and Valence.

Poderi Aldo Conterno poderi aldo conterno Aldo Conterno cru vineyards (Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello) are located in Bussia of Monforte d'Alba; portray the real expression of the terroir. Their fabulous South South-West location enhances the nobility of the clayey-calcareous soil, rich with calcium carbonate and iron, typical of our hills. The family has always had a relationship of perfect symbiosis with these cru, trying to enhance all their most peculiar characteristics through a wise and hard work in the vineyard. The wine of these cru give itself a firm determination by playing on the most classical elements of the vine and its spicy notes give a crystal idea of the uniqueness of this soil. The interpretation of a territory goes along with the perfect knowledge of its components; that circumstance can become true only after a long and careful study of the components. All this has always been within their intentions, enabling them to find out the fundamental connections which, thanks to the hard work in the vineyard, are the basis of the unmistakable identity of their wines. www.podericonterno.com Label Practices Rating Vintage Size(ml) Reds

Fattoria Aldobrandesca fattoria aldobrandesca Fattoria Aldobrandesca estate is located near the town of Sovana in the isolated, uncontaminated southern part of Tus- can Maremma. The area is characterized by its fertility, and its virtually wild character. In this rich territory, the Aldobrandesca estate represents a microcosm of incredible variety. In the space of a very few hectares, the soil takes on many different shadings of color: white pumice stone, tufaceous soils which range from yellow to garnet red and black volcanic rock.

La Braccesca la braccesca Just miles away from the city of Montepulciano, near the border between Tuscany and neighbouring Umbria, the La Braccesca estate is surrounded by a splendid territory, first Etruscan and Roman, then medieval and Renaissance. The property extends over 420 hectares where, once upon a time, the holdings of the Bracci counts - who gave their name to the estate - were located: the counts, whose name means "arm" in Italian, also gave their coat of arms to the property, an armored arm which holds a sword. The Marchesi Antinori firm began to invest in this zone, one of the newest and most promising of Tuscany in the 1990's. The La Braccesca estate is situated in two very close, but entirely different zones; Montepulciano, the classic and prestigious area of "Vino Nobile" and Cortona, which has made a name for itself in world markets principally with international grape varieties, above all Syrah. www.antinori.it/en/passione-in-evoluzione/la-braccesca Label Practices Rating Vintage Size(ml) Reds Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2013 750 Prugnolo Gentile & Merlot

Le Mortelle Estate le mortelle estate The Le Mortelle estate is located in the Tuscan Maremma near the town of Castiglione della Pescaia. It was once part of a even larger property called La Badiola, important enough to be already identified on the maps of Grand Duke Leopoldo II of Tuscany in the 19th century. The estate has belonged to the Antinori family since 1999, and it has worked both on the vineyards and the new cellars with the firm conviction that the area, at the time just emerging into prominence in the overall panorama if Italian wine, had a very significant potential for the production of high quality wine. The family also believed that here the finest characteristics of the terroir and the varieties to be planted could fully find an excellent expression.

Mortella is the name of the wild myrrh which characterizes this coastal area of Tuscany and is the symbol of the property: it also derives its name from this fragrant Mediterranean shrub. www.lemortelle.it

Falesco Falesco Falesco Winery was founded in 1979 in Montefiascone by the brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, both winemakers and deeply rooted in this land at the border of Lazio and Umbria regions. One of the first goals of the company was to recover the ancient vineyards of the area to restore luster to a territory unjustly forgotten. Thus began a fascinating journey of research on the variety Roscetto that, after many years of experience and research, gave birth in 1989 to EST! EST!! EST!!! Poggio dei Gelsi and Ferentano in 1998, a wine which thoroughly expresses the potential and the richness of these grapes. In recent years, Falesco has enriched its property with the acquisition of the farm Marciliano, about 260 hectares, located on the beautiful hill south of Orvieto, in the towns of Montecchio and Baschi. From these vines Falesco grows the grapes Merlot, Cabernet and Sangiovese for the production of Vitiano Rosso and Pesano, Verdicchio and Vermentino for the Vitiano Bianco.

Remelluri remelluri Known as Bodegas Y Vinedos Granja Ntra. Sra. De Remelluri in the past, but known to fans as simply Remelluri, this remains one of Rioja’s reference points. The Remelluri name has a large following with Spanish fans and is known for its high quality Rioja wines and profound history that dates back to the fourteenth century. The big news here was the return of Telmo Rodriguez, who left the family winery to start his own projects throughout Spain, but returned in February 2010. Many changes have been made, and more will come. For a start, Telmo started a solera with Viura, blending different vintages, in a kind of homage to old white Riojas. Further improvements such as redefining the brand’s product line by clearly separating the wines produced with the estate grapes and those produced with grapes purchased from external suppliers; as well as implementing biodynamic practices in the vineyards. www.remelluri.com Label Practices Rating Vintage Size(ml)

Telmo Rodriguez telmo rodriguez In 1994, Compania de Vanos Telmo Rodriguez was established by Pablo Eguzkiza and Telmo Rodriguez. Telmo Rodriguez is widely regconised as one of Spain's most talented and prolific winemakers. From the start, the aim of the company has been to use native Spanish varieties. This philosophy originally differed from the on-going interest in the planting of foreign varieties. Another noteworthy initiative, again from the earliest days of the business, is the recovery of abandoned or forgotten vineyards. With the objective to produce top Douro DOC still wines, proving the World that the region can produce top red wines apart from Port using traditional Port grape varieties from Symington Family finest vineyards, with the knowledge of a top French Bordeaux winemaker. PRATS & SYMINGTON is now the owner of two prime Douro estates, QUINTA DE RORIZ and QUINTA DA PERDIZ. The cornerstone of Graham's Port is the company's famed vineyard, Quinta dos Malvedos. It is acknowledged to be one of the Upper Douro's finest properties. Under the current owners, Martin Shaw and Michael Hill - Smith, there is a firm commitment to respecting the site, and seeing it become one of Australia's great vineyards for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The vineyard was called Tolpuddle and it took its name from the Tolpuddle Martyrs. The soil is light silica over sandstone, and of moderate vigour, ensuring well-balanced vines. www.tolpuddlevineyard.com Label Practices Rating Vintage Size(ml) Coal Valley Chardonnay 2014 750 2015 750 Pinot Noir RP91 2014 750 2015 750 2016 750

Dalrymple dalrymple Dalrymple's celebrated vineyard of just 12.3 hectares and with vines exceeding 20 years, rise up an easterly facing slope from 100m to 160m above sea level. With latitude of 41°, the vineyard shares similar conditions to that found in Burgundy. Tea trees, eucalypts and ferns protect its terroir on all sides, whilst sea breezes from nearby Bass Strait moderate dry and night temperatures, thereby encouraging the grapes to ripen evenly. On the western border of the property lies the extinct volcanic crater which created the vineyard's rich basalt soils. These soils are of a moderate depth and so provide excellent drainage to avoid waterlogging, keeping the vines in relatively good balance. www.dalrymplevineyards.com.au

Oxford Landing oxford landing Oxford Landing is a real place, a real vineyard. A place distinguished by clear blue skies, rich red soil and an abundance of golden sunshine. Established in 1958 on the banks of the majestic Murray River in South Australia, the vineyard was named Oxford Landing after a nearby site where drovers once grazed and watered sheep on the long journey to Adelaide from northern pastoral properties. Care and attention are the hallmarks of life at Oxford Landing. Many of the people who work here also live here. Heggies Vineyard heggies vineyard The Heggies Vineyard was owned by local grazier and bushman, Colin Heggie, before being purchased by Wyndham Hill Smith, then Manager of the Yalumba Wine Company. Friends since school days, Colin and Wyndham's friendship continued into adulthood and throughout their lengthy negotiation over the purchase of Heggie's land - a negotiation that was not a lot more than an excuse for relaxed chats about land, cattle, horses, wine and life! Planting began in 1971 on the North Eastern corner of the property and the first wine was released in 1979. It was the first wine to bear the idiosyncratic label that features a drawing of Colin Heggie, the bushman, looking out over the fledgling Heggies plantings astride his faithful chestnut, Jack.

Minimal intervention winemaking emphasises pure structured fruit and utilises the lost art of judicious small batch blending. The Other Wine Co.

The other wine co. The Other Wine Co. is a new venture that aims to make wines from the right grape, grown in the right place. That may sound obvious, but it’s a principle honoured more “in the breach than the observance.” Really good matches of variety and place take a long time to become entrenched, but when they do, the proof is in the glass. The Other Wine Co. wines are vinified and bottled at the Shaw + Smith winery in Balhannah. The wines are ‘other’ because they give the winemakers the opportunity to make wines from varieties and/or regions that fall outside of Shaw + Smith’s rigorous definition. Stylistically, the wines avoid over-ripeness, oak and power in preference to freshness, balance and overall drinkability. These are made to drink and enjoy. www.theotherwineco.com
