Letter from The Camp Staff

Welcome to the family! We, the 2021 Camp Fiesta Island Staff would like to thank you for joining us this summer.

We have all been working hard to bring to you the highest quality program that we can provide while keeping participants safe and following all COVID guidelines. This Leader's Guide has been created to help ensure that you will make the most of your week at CFI. We have included schedules, maps, camp rules, and information to ensure a smooth and enjoyable camp experience for your troop.

A unique opportunity for both male and female Scouts and Venturers ages 14 & 15 to: Learn New Leadership Skills, Enjoy Summer Camp, Make New Friends, Have FUN, Earn Merit Badges or complete Venturing awards. The Counselor Trainees (CTs) will participate in a three week specialized program, which will involve both work experience and summer camp experience; all under the guidance of two dedicated Counselor Training Directors (Male and Female). Registration is limited to 20 participants per session. Previous CTs have earned up to ten merit badges and many nights of camping for rank advancements during their session. CTs will also have the opportunity to assist the staff in chaperoning campers on the many Wednesday excursions offered (such as the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, U.S.S. Midway Tours, kayaking and snorkel trips, etc.). All participants will receive two t-shirts, a hooded sweatshirt, all meals and full lodging! Participants in the CT Program pick up desirable skills and experience that are looked for when hiring full time staff. Participants may only attend one session per summer camp facility. Cost is $505 for SDIC and LVAC Scouts and $540 for out of council Scouts.

All sessions of Camp Fiesta Island offer a five-day Day Trekkers DAY CAMP exclusively for younger scouts, or scouts who do not wish to stay overnight. Day Trekkers can enroll in any course suitable for their age group, which may include Scout Skills, Aquatics, and Nature/Civics merit badges, as well as our Mariner Program. The Day Trekkers schedule runs concurrent with CFI’s weeklong resident camp and is integrated into our daily courses. Day Trekkers may also participate in Wednesday activities (such as the San Diego Zoo, SeaWorld, U.S.S. Midway Tours, kayaking and snorkel trips, etc.).

Spend the first half of the week learning principles of SCUBA diving at San Diego’s finest dive shop. Finish the week off diving in the Pacific Ocean at some of San Diego’s most popular dive sites. Box lunch included each day. Transportation to and from dive sites must be provided by individual units. Each participant will be mailed a packet of home study materials and paperwork that must be completed prior to arrival at camp. Scouts and Adults are welcome! Clean Up Duties Health and Safety Each troop will have a cleaning assignment every day. Copies of these assignments will be distributed on the first day of camp in addition to being posted on the Bay View Terrace. Your First Mates will be available to assist and instruct your unit with its duties each day. Additionally, A qualified Health Officer is on duty at all times and trained in dealing with the emergency and every troop is expected to be present during camp wide cleanup (at the waterfront) each day at non-emergency medical needs of the camp. In the event of serious accident or illness, 5:00 p.m. transportation will be arranged to the closest, most appropriate medical care facility. A unit leader must accompany any Scout leaving camp property to obtain medical assistance. Parents will be contacted immediately in any case where the scout must leave camp property to obtain CFI Showers and Bathrooms further medical care. A Scout is Clean. Personal cleanliness should be maintained. Leaders should ensure that Scouts wash their hands before preparing food or eating. The camp provides showers for leaders and Medical Forms for scouts. Each Scout and leader at camp must have a health examination prior to arrival at camp. Please bring 2 copies of medical forms to camp. Prescription Medicine

Pursuant to National BSA regulations, all prescription medication must be kept locked up. Medications needing refrigeration will be collected during check-in. Emergency medications i.e. rescue inhalers, epi-pens, etc. should be kept with the camper. Furthermore, Camp Fiesta Island medical staff is not responsible for ensuring that a Scout takes his/her medicine, this responsibility resides with the scout and the unit adult leaders. Pursuant to State regulations all medications must be in the original prescription container with the pharmacy label attached. Every troop must complete an “In Camp Medication Form” that explains which scouts require medication. A copy of this form may be collected during check-in and stored at the health lodge.

Dietary Restrictions Our caterers will work hard to accommodate any dietary restrictions that Scouts or leaders may have. Be sure to let us know before arriving at camp what special dietary needs people have, then check with the Camp Director once you arrive at camp to make sure he understands the situation. Please email camp dietary needs to the Camp Director prior to arrival.
