  • Song of El Cid

    Song of El Cid

Eleventh Century Spain was fragmented into kingdoms and other domains on both the Christian and Muslim sides. These realms were continually at war among themselves. El Cid was a soldier- adventurer of this time whose legend endured through the centuries and became a symbol of the Christian Reconquest. This is his story as told by himself in the guise of a medieval troubadour – but with some present-day anachronisms creeping in. Song of El Cid I’m Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar; Prince Sancho was the one I served, my fame has spread to lands afar. my qualities were well observed, that’s why you’re sitting here with me so when he became the king in turn to listen to my soliloquy. I had but little left to learn about the matters of warfare, To Moors I’m known as El Sayyid and to him allegiance I did swear. (though I am no Almorávide). El Cid, the lord or leader who As his royal standard bearer, I is invincible in warfare too. was one on whom he could rely to wage the battles against his kin, To Christians I’m El Campeador, which it was paramount to win. now what that means you can be sure. I’m champion of the field of battle, For in the will of Ferdinand, reducing all my foes to chattel! he had divided all his land; to García - Galicia, to Elvira – Toro, Confuse me not with Charlton Heston, to Alfonso - León, to Urraca - Zamora. my story’s not just any Western. His culture centers round the gun, So Sancho was left with Castile alone but I have owned not even one.

Chronologically Lewis Joel D. Heck All notes are done in the present tense of the verb for consistency. Start and end dates of term are those officially listed in the Oxford calendar. An email from Robin Darwall-Smith on 11/26/2008 explains the discrepancies between official term dates and the notes of C. S. Lewis in his diary and letters: “Term officially starts on a Thursday, but then 1st Week (out of 8) starts on the following Sunday (some might say Saturday, but it ought to be Sunday). The week in which the start of term falls is known now as „0th Week‟. I don‟t know how far back that name goes, but I‟d be surprised if it wasn‟t known in Lewis‟s day. The system at the start of term which I knew in the 1980s - and which I guess was there in Lewis‟s time too - was that the undergraduates had to be in residence by the Thursday of 0th Week; the Friday was set aside for start of term Collections (like the ones memorably described in Lewis‟s diary at Univ.!), and for meetings with one‟s tutors. Then after the weekend lectures and tutorials started in earnest on the Monday of 1st Week.” Email from Robin Darwall-Smith on 11/27/2008: “The two starts to the Oxford term actually have names. There‟s the start of term, in midweek, and then the start of „Full Term‟, on the Sunday - and is always Sunday. Lectures and tutorials start up on the following day.
  • Rules and Options

    Rules and Options

Rules and Options The author has attempted to draw as much as possible from the guidelines provided in the 5th edition Players Handbooks and Dungeon Master's Guide. Statistics for weapons listed in the Dungeon Master's Guide were used to develop the damage scales used in this book. Interestingly, these scales correspond fairly well with the values listed in the d20 Modern books. Game masters should feel free to modify any of the statistics or optional rules in this book as necessary. It is important to remember that Dungeons and Dragons abstracts combat to a degree, and does so more than many other game systems, in the name of playability. For this reason, the subtle differences that exist between many firearms will often drop below what might be called a "horizon of granularity." In D&D, for example, two pistols that real world shooters could spend hours discussing, debating how a few extra ounces of weight or different barrel lengths might affect accuracy, or how different kinds of ammunition (soft-nosed, armor-piercing, etc.) might affect damage, may be, in game terms, almost identical. This is neither good nor bad; it is just the way Dungeons and Dragons handles such things. Who can use firearms? Firearms are assumed to be martial ranged weapons. Characters from worlds where firearms are common and who can use martial ranged weapons will be proficient in them. Anyone else will have to train to gain proficiency— the specifics are left to individual game masters. Optionally, the game master may also allow characters with individual weapon proficiencies to trade one proficiency for an equivalent one at the time of character creation (e.g., monks can trade shortswords for one specific martial melee weapon like a war scythe, rogues can trade hand crossbows for one kind of firearm like a Glock 17 pistol, etc.).

«¡Ah, buena Durandarte malograda fuiste!..

INDEX OF PERSONS page 300 INDEX OF ARTISTS page 306 PREFACE HE first and only catalogue of the collection of medals formed by Gustave Dreyfus appeared in I93 I. Its author was Sir George Hill, who had studied the collection in depth when it was still T in Dreyfus' hands in the Boulevard Malesherbes in Paris. In a prefatory note, Hill observed that 'keenly as Gustave Dreyfus appreciated all his beautiful things, he had a particularly soft place in his heart for the Italian medals, and ... he would have agreed with the German critic who declared that the medallic art was par excellence the art of the Renaissance, the expression of the quintessence of the spirit of that age.' The preface continues with the tribute: 'His was perhaps the finest collection that has ever been in the hands of a private collector - the "perhaps" might be omitted, but that it is difficult to range the great collections in a true perspective.' Thanks to the Kress Foundation, the Dreyfus collection of medals was not dispersed, like so many other medallic collections, but is preserved intact in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, where it bears out Hill's claim to be regarded as the finest private collection of medals ever to have been formed.

Steyr Scout, the Steyr Scout Provides the Ideal Solution for Versatility, Durability, Accuracy and Reliability in a Compact and Lightweight Bolt-Action Rifle Platform

Gun Africa Classifieds https://www.gunafrica.co.za/ Steyr Scout, The Steyr Scout provides the ideal solution for versatility, durability, accuracy and reliability in a compact and lightweight bolt-action rifle platform. Developed in a nearly decade-long collaboration with legendary Marine Corps Lt.Col. Jeff Cooper, the Scout boasts an extensive list of innovative features. Backup “ghost-ring” iron sights integrated to the top rail can be deployed within seconds should the optics fail. In keeping with Cooper’s requirement for a magazine cutoff, Steyr incorporated a two-position magazine system that allowed the rifle to be fed individually with the five-round magazine in a lowered position. The magazine could be seated one step further with minimal pressure, allowing the bolt to feed cartridges directly from the magazine. A second five-round backup magazine is contained in the buttstock in case of an urgent need to reload. With a fluted, cold-hammer-forged barrel measuring 19 inches, an overall length of 38.6 inches and an out-of-the-box weight of just 6.6 pounds, the Scout is a breeze to pack out on long adventures, patrolling the farm or taking a quick trip to the range. The compact design of the stock features an innovative integrated bipod that is hardly noticeable until it is folded out from the stock.
