How do I print several labels?

To print an entire group of spine—or spine and pocket—labels, open the Library or Media page of Reports and select Spine/Pocket Labels.

You can print labels based on the contents of a Resource List or Copy Category, a file or list of barcode numbers, or the acquisition date and of the copies.

1. If you're a district cataloger, select the district or a single site from the For list. Note: If you select the district, the printing is limited to the first 1,000 qualifying labels. In addition, you cannot base the printing on a Barcode List. 2. From the Sort by list, select a sort order for the copies- by Call Number or Date/Time Copies Added. 3. From the Based on list, select a method for identifying the copies to include: List: If you have multiple Resource Lists, select the one needing the labels.

Select your label stock and the starting label. 6. Select the font size for the spine labels. You can choose a 10, 12, or 14 point font size from the Call number font size box. The font is Arial Bold. Please note that this selection applies only to the call number on the spine labels, not the number or copy number, nor to pocket or circulation labels.

7. To generate the labels, click . 8. When the Report Manager opens, click View to open the label report. 9. After positioning the label stock in your printer, use Adobe Reader's toolbar button or menu command to print the labels.

What do the labels contain?

The spine labels contain the copy's call number and any volume or issue descriptions and numbers, and any copy number included in the copy record.

If the call number is longer than the label width allows, Destiny breaks the number the first space, or at a decimal point. For the best labels, make sure you purchase the label stock that accommodates your call number size.

What label stock can I use?

You can use any of the label stocks listed in the tables (below). Stock from other vendors may work as well. Make sure to print a test page on plain paper and adjust the offsets as needed. Note: Destiny allows you to print three of the label stocks (Demco 5 by 11, Demco 8 by 6, and University 8 by 6) in a vertical orientation. This option is not provided for label stocks that are nearly square.

How are the labels on the sheet numbered?

In what order are the labels printed?

The labels print in call number order. For district catalogers who are printing labels for the entire district, the labels are first sorted alphabetically by library, then by call number.

The printing is not centered on the label. How do I correct this?

Use the Printer offsets to fine-tune the alignment of the printing on the labels. The Horizontal and Vertical offsets let you adjust the left and top margins, respectively. Each increment is equal to 1/10th of a millimeter. Keep in mind that the offsets needed for each label stock vary from printer to printer.

Tip: The first time you select a label stock, print a few tests on plain paper to ensure that the printing is aligned correctly.

When you print, Destiny saves the offset settings you used so that you do not have to set them again.

For the Horizontal setting, locate your stock in the following table and enter a number within the allowable range:

Some of the labels are blank. Why?

You may have copies in your collection without call numbers, or temporary copies ( ), created in Check Out, that do not have call numbers. To these copies, open Call Number Reports on the Library or Media page of Reports and select Copies without call numbers from the list.
