NEWS RELEASE 9th November 2010 ILMC victory for Peugeot 908 HDi FAP and 2011 car revealed – with advanced Ricardo transmissions Ricardo congratulates Peugeot on securing the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) for 2010 – the first year of this newly created series – and on the announcement of its new 2011 car with which it will defend both its current ILMC and Le Mans Series titles The illustrious racing career of the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP was capped at the 1000km race at Zhuhai, southeast China, when the car driven by Stéphane Sarrazin and Franck Montagny took first place followed in fourth position by the second 908 of Sébastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud. Taking in the process both the Team’s and Manufacturer’s titles for the newly created ILMS, Sunday’s race marked the completion of a career which has seen the 908 HDi FAP with its Ricardo transmission achieve 24 pole positions, 19 wins, 9 one-two finishes and 25 fastest race laps since its debut in 2007. The Peugeot 908 HDi FAP has a bespoke gearbox designed and manufactured by Ricardo, in close collaboration with Peugeot engineers, to match the needs of the car’s V12 diesel engine, which produces immense torque and power. This advanced transmission has thus been developed to be a world leader in weight and torque, as well as in reliability. In parallel with the 2010 race programme based on the 908 HDi FAP, Peugeot Sport has been working on the design and development of the 2011 car which it is currently codenaming as 90X. Commenting the success for the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP and announcement of the 2011 90X car, Ricardo director of high performance transmission products Mark Barge said: “Ricardo is proud to have played its part in engineering and supplying the highly optimized transmission system for the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP which will go down as one of the landmark cars of Le Mans history. We congratulate Peugeot on its success in the 2010 season and look forward to continuing our work on the transmission for the 2011 90X which we believe will continue the proud race- and series-winning heritage established by its predecessor.” Ends Ricardo plc ● Shoreham Technical Centre ● Shoreham-by-Sea ● West Sussex ● BN43 5FG ● UK Telephone: +44 (0)1273 455611 ● Facsimile +44 (0)1273 464124 Registered in England No. 222915 NEWS RELEASE NOTES TO EDITORS: Ricardo plc: With technical centres and offices in the UK, USA, Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Russia, China, Japan, India and Korea, Ricardo is a leading independent technology provider and strategic consultant to the world’s transportation sector and clean energy industries.
