Despite this though, and thanks to the experience of the local residents of the Trentino valleys in terms of winter sports, strong support from CUSI and the academic authorities of the region, the Trentino Winter Universiade was a magnificent success. The student athletes had the opportunity to live the Italian «good life» whilst participating in competitions of a very high technical level. It is also a point of satisfaction and pride for me to mention the FISU Conferences, which took place in Kazan and Trentino during the Universiades and were open to all student-athletes and their guides. The main topics for 2013 were: «University and Olympic Sport: Two Models – One Goal?» in Kazan and «University Sport: Inspiring Innovation» in Trento. These two educational events provided an opportunity, once again, for FISU to highlight their academic values. Claude-Louis Gallien FISU President / Président de la FISU In conclusion, please finally note that the 33rd FISU Ordinary General Assembly also took place in Kazan.

This study intends to present the program and to discuss its impact on Brazilian Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG) according to the opinion of Brazilian experts. A bibliographic review has been used as methodological procedure, followed by a field survey consisting of semi-structured interviews applied to Brazilian representatives, coaches, judges and world-class gymnasts. The results revealed the important role of the Athlete Scholarship Program on the gymnasts support, however other actions are necessary to solve structural and financial problems that still affect this sport in Brazil. We suggest some changes in the program in order to increase the number of scholarships offered, to minimize the bureaucracy application and to make clearer the enrollment rules, the accountability and the selection process.
