Oklahoma City Community Foundation Community Scholar Recipients Foundation 2002 funding the promise of tomorrow The Oklahoma City Community Foundation: An Overview The Oklahoma City Community Foundation is a non-profit public charity that works with donors and non profit organizations to develop permanent endowment funds for the benefit of the community. The Community Foundation was started in 1969 by a group of Oklahoma City businessmen as a way for donors to provide support for non-profit organizations and as a means to address broad community needs. It was created in the spirit of helping donors help the community. Over the past 33 years, more than 7,000 donors have contributed to more than 800 different funds at the Community Foundation. The assets of the Community Foundation exceed $380 million and it is one of the 20 largest community foundations in the United States. The current activities of the Community Foundation are concentrated in the following three areas: Managing endowment funds for non-profits. The Community Foundation has permanent endowment funds for more than 240 organizations. The earnings on these funds annually support the operating expenses of the beneficiary organizations. The Community Foundation helps develop the funds and provides all of the administrative and investment services. Managing charitable funds for a wide range of purposes. The Community Foundation works with donors and other groups to create funds that support a wide variety of community purposes. The purposes range from scholarship funds to beautification of public lands to assistance for those affected by the Oklahoma City bombing.
