This program allows student art to be viewed by fairgoers, enables students to participate in a special exhibition at the State Capitol and provides funding for art supplies and art scholarships. Over the years, the program has evolved to allow more participation statewide and increased funding to schools. The OSAE scholarship program began in 2014 and, to date, has awarded $35,500 to graduating Oklahoma high school seniors pursuing a field related to visual arts. Seniors from all high schools participating in the OSAE are invited to apply each January. Public and private schools from around the state have always been eligible to participate in the OSAE at no cost. Initially, the program focused on elementary and middle school students but in 2010, high school art was included. In 2017, district take-in and judging sites were added in Ada, Duncan, Enid and Tulsa which made it easier for schools throughout the state to participate. With the growing number of entries, this also helped ease the strain on the Oklahoma City take-in site. Art selected as Best of Show, Judges’ Choice or Superintendent’s Choice in each of the three divisions (elementary, middle school and high school) is featured in a traveling exhibit each summer. Framed in the Vil- lage provided professional matting and framing for each of these outstanding pieces. The exhibit starts at the Oklahoma History Center followed by various art galleries until reclaim in October. Check the Fair website for exact locations and dates. If your school does not currently participate in the OSAE, we would be happy to talk with the appropriate teacher at your school. Don’t just attend the Oklahoma State Fair...Be a part of it!
