He worked as assistant-director, amongst others, with two well- known Dutch directors Wouter van Praag and Peter Oosthoek and for opera he gained experience at De Nederlandse Opera with Pierre Audi’s production L’Orfeo . As a keen fencer it was a logical step for him to study at the Society of British Fight Directors in London. As a fight director he choreographed fights for all important theatre, film and television companies, for example the Oscar winning movie KARAKTER (1998). Jeroen Lopes Cardozo made his debut as an opera director in 1983 with Benjamin Britten’s church opera Curlew River. This unique production was given on tour in churches throughout Holland. In the year 2000 he directed the same opera, now as an open air production on a Mediaeval square in the South of Holland (Abdijplein, Middelburg). He also founded a professional opera company “De Kleine Opera Stichting” to realise plans for world-premières. Over ten years he was artistic director of this foundation, which was subsidised by the Dutch Government and the City of Amsterdam. He also was artistic director of a Dutch opera touring company “Opera Amsterdam”. He directed in the Netherlands and abroad opera’s from Mozart, Menotti, Offenbach, Britten, Monteverdi, Rameau, Vaughan Williams and Wagner. For many years he was member of the Committee of the Dutch Arts Council for Opera and Musical. He directed many newly composed opera’s and worked in Holland, Poland, France, Germany, Ireland and England. Furthermore he was artistically responsible as a resident director for the Dutch version of The Phantom of the Opera at Joop van den Ende Theatre Productions.

Holland Purcell and the Srventeen th-Century Voic c An Inv estigation of Singers and Voice Ty pes in H!cnry Purc ell's Voca l Music0 Abstract This thesis uses the study of Henry Purcell"s vocal music to establish the vocal characteristics of the singers and voice types for whom the composer wrote in London in the seventeenthcentury. This process is begun in the first chapter by discussing 'The Counter-Tenor Debate' in order to establish the method(s) of vocal production used by Purcell's counter-tenors. This in turn addressesthe issue of whether the counter-tenor was a completely different voice type from the tenor, or if they were simply high and low subdivisions of the same voice type.
