May • 2007 The Log www.rochesteryc.com Goal: USA Paralympic Team For Beijing Get Out On The Water! Until very recently, I haven't had much to report about our sailing campaign to represent the USA in the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. In January, we met with Lt. John Pucillo USN EOD, when he came to Miami for a "team tryout". I had made an appeal to the Wounded Warriors Project, explaining that our team had an opening and that we wanted to offer it to a recovering serviceman. I explained the classification system for sailing and requested help to find a leg amputee that was strong and agile. Lt. Pucillo (aka "Pooch") answered the call. Last May, Pooch lost his left leg above the knee, while serving in Iraq. The Best Way To Kick Off Your Weekend… Friday Night Only Races EOD is the acronym for Explosive Ordnance Disposal. RYC Keelboat Program The boats held up well in 2006 and were sailed frequently and raced competitively. Jason Evans has worked on them again this off-season. The recently added sails still sound newer than most on the starting line; this year we're moving the dry sailed boats back to the Club basin and setting up a bottom cleaning schedule. You know the program, and now it's time to try it!

For $395.00 per family (or $295 if you sign up prior to April 1 – now extended to May 1) you can take advantage of the Keelboat Program, with no worries of ownership. Don't be left sitting at the bar or pool wishing you were out on the water when the breeze comes up. Have questions: Call Chris Dorsey at 544-8347 or email him at [email protected]
