    Member Newsletter April 2021 | No. 565 Concord Yacht Club LUFF LETTER Latitude: 35º50’55.27”N Longitude: 84º09’4.809”W “Land was created to provide a place for boats to visit.” -Brooks Atkinson www.concordyachtclub.org Commodore’s | Report At the anniversary of the beginning of COVID’s dramatic impact on our lives, the first thing that comes to mind is it has been a long year full of challenges and stress. Thankfully, the grip of the virus is easing and slowly things are moving closer to the type of normal life we had before. As a result of the last year of precautions, not only have we not been able to gather and enjoy our time together, our Club’s grounds and facilities have not had significant attention since late 2019. Numerous things require maintenance along with some repair and replacement. Although a few projects are a sig- nificant undertaking, most are smaller jobs that do not require a lot of time and can be accomplished by one to four people. I urge everyone to find ways to contribute to helping catch up around our Club in- cluding taking on a Project Manager role for the more involved projects. Board Meeting The March Board Meeting items of note: • The COVID Benchmarks in Knox County continue to improve and are either Yellow or Green. The Board is continuing to monitor the situation and is looking for Knox County to review their protocols and continue to slowly ease restrictions. • The Board approved the CSC COVID mitigation plan for a US Sailing Level 1 Instructor Class.

    The Newsletter of the Walnut Valley Sailing Club Website: www.wvsailing.com SEPTEMBER 2011 CALENDAR: From the Commodore September 4 Open Regatta September 5 Labor Day Ahoy Sailors, September 8 Board Meeting The summer heat drives on with searing reminders that summer is not September 10 Women’s/Youth quite over. We did enjoy a break from triple digits which allowed Gwynne Regatta and Dave Bonifield and their team of volunteers to put on a fabulous fish fry, our first social event in two months. More than 50 members braved September 17 Long Distance Race 4 the uncertain future and enjoyed a fine meal and a splendid evening at the lake. Breezes were light to non-existant so the glorious full moon was left September 17 Walk to Defeat ALS to be enjoyed from the dock and sailing was relegated to sea stories and September 18 Regular Race fairytales. September 24 Regular Race Hot temperatures and scant winds have again taken their toll on the racing Shrimp Boil dates and sailing events of August. I believe we managed but one race where a certain tall rig Capri 22 caught the rare zephyr and led the pack to a sizable victory as the balance of the fleet eventually drifted across the line. Talk on the dock was of the possibility of extending the season a OFFICERS: couple of weeks to take in some of the better days to come. We shall see how schedules permit. I remain hopeful that the weather will break and COMMODORE Robert Brown 316-733-8782 ‘12 [email protected] bring us fair winds and cooler temperatures in September.

    Folsom Lake Yacht Club August/September 2020 FO THE TELLTALE SMOOTH SAILING SINCE 1956 COMMODORE'S COLUMN The Lost Year It almost sounds like the name of a bad science-fiction movie ... The Lost Year. And, it sorta feels like one. We’ve been living through a seemingly unending disaster movie, for the past 6 months. While we sailors might have hoped for The Endless Summer, what we got is a cross between the Twilight Zone, Outbreak and Groundhog Day. And now, our skies are painted dirty white, soiled with wildfire smoke. What next, Hitchcock’s "The Birds?" No, Alfred Hitchcock never conceived anything as terrifying as 2020. No one would have believed this toilet-paper-hoarded, face-masked, quarantined, riot-stained, dirty-aired, triple- digited year. Before anyone concludes that I am discounting the seriousness of Covid-19 or the many disasters we've endured this year, I can assure you that the FLYC board and I, have taken the pandemic very seriously. Enough so, that most of our events got cancelled - Cam Cup, Trans Folsom Lake Yacht Club 1 Folsom Lake Yacht Club August/September 2020 Folsom, the entire Spring Series, Summer #1, Lady and the Tramp, KEMR, Bigs and Littles, Governor's Cup ... even the Cup Boat Regatta, and that's not even supposed to be a serious event. Well, at least it wasn’t a total loss. After instituting a Covid policy, and State Parks reopened the lake to boating, we did manage to salvage a few events. There was a great turnout for the last three race days of the Summer Sunset Series (if you have never sailed summer nights on Folsom Lake, you're missing one of life's great joys) and the Centerboard regatta also had perfect conditions.

    CARLYLE YACHT CLUB Moonlight Regatta Saturday, August 24th, 2013 NOTICE OF RACE Sponsor Carlyle Yacht Club, Carlyle Illinois Eligibility Open to sailboats at least 20’ LOA. All boats shall comply with Coast Guard requirements, applicable state and federal laws, and her Class Rules when sailing with a class or one-design handicap rating. Rules Unless superseded by the Sailing Instructions or this Notice of Race, the International Sailing Federation’s The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2013-2016, together with US Sailing prescriptions and as appropriate, the CYC Handicapping and Scoring Manual, and One Design Class Rules shall govern. The Penalty System in Rules 44.1 and 44.2 is modified by the Sailing Instructions. The Carlyle Yacht Club Series Races are designated Category “A” events. Retractable keels, centerboards, daggerboards or similar foils shall remain locked in the full-down position while racing. Registration $10 per registered boat. Breakfast tickets are $10 each adult, $4 for children.
