DUAL MATCHES - A dual match is two teams competing against one another. A dual match lineup consists of six singles positions and three double positions. Typically, the No. 1 position is considered the best player or doubles team on a squad and so on down the lineup.

Regular sets (fi rst to six by two) are utilized and a player must win two out of three sets to win. The winner in each match receives one point toward the fi nal team score.

THE ITA - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is the governing body of college tennis. Formed in 1956 as the National Collegiate Tennis Coaches Association, it became the Intercollegiate Tennis Coaches Association in 1958 and adopted its current moniker in July of 1992. Originally formed as a vehicle for coaches to voice ideas and opinions to the NCAA, it now sponsors a number of national championships, the All-American team, and the ITA Collegiate Rankings. The ITA is made up of eight regions (I-VIII) divided by states. Texas Tech is in region VI, which includes Division I schools from Texas and a few from Louisiana. The ITA has an executive 8 director (currently Princeton’s David Benjamin), a board of directors (21 coaches), and numerous standing committees.

ITA RANKINGS - The ITA rankings are used as the offi cial national and regional rankings for men’s and women’s intercollegiate tennis. The rankings are released by the ITA offi ce in Princeton, New Jersey.
