This is their third meeting (tied 1-1). Both teams are attempting to capture their first US Open crown and second Grand Slam men’s doubles title. This is the first US Open doubles championship in the Open Era (since 1968) to feature double digit seeded teams. • Rojer and Tecau rallied from a set down to beat top seeds Kontinen/Peers 16 76 75 in the semi-finals. They only have lost two sets in five matches en route to the final. Their previous Grand Slam title together came at 2015 Wimbledon. They finished as the No. 1 team that year, closing with a season-ending title at the Nitto ATP Finals in London. They come in on a nine-match winning and prior to the US Open they captured their 15th career team title at Winston-Salem. During the streak they have won 18 of 20 sets. Rojer is trying to become the first Dutchman to win the US Open since Jacco Eltingh and Paul Haarhuis in 1994. The last Romanian to win the US Open men’s doubles title was Ilie Nastase in 1975 (w/Connors). • Lopez and Lopez have dropped one set en route to the final, that coming in the semi-finals (36 63 64) against five- time US Open champions Bryan/Bryan. Their previous Grand Slam crown came at Roland Garros last year. They are the third Spanish duo in the past four years to reach the US Open final. Last year Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez reached the final (l. to J. Murray/Soares) and in 2014 Marcel Granollers and M. Lopez were finalists (l. to Bryans). The last Spanish duo to win the US Open were Sergio Casal and Emilio Sanchez in 1988. • In the mixed doubles semi-finals, men’s doubles finalist Horia Tecau teams with women’s singles semi-finalist (playing Thursday night) CoCo Vandeweghe against Wimbledon champions and top seeds Jamie Murray and Martina Hingis in a blockbuster match-up. Tecau and Vandeweghe advanced to the 2016 Australian Open final in their first event as a team, while Murray and Hingis did not drop a set in their debut earlier this summer at Wimbledon. In the other semi-final, first-time teams will face off as No. 3 seeds Michael Venus and Hao-Ching Chan meet Oliver Marach and Anastasia Rodionova.     24 October 2017 DIMITROV, CILIC QUALIFY FOR NITTO ATP FINALS LONDON – Grigor Dimitrov and Marin Cilic have both secured their places at the Nitto ATP Finals, to be held from 12-19 November at The O2 in London. They will join World No. 1 Rafael Nadal, six-time champion Roger Federer, 20-year-old debutant Alexander Zverev and two-time qualifier Dominic Thiem in the elite eight-man field. Dimitrov, the first Bulgarian to qualify for the prestigious season-ending tournament, and Cilic, who previously qualified in 2014 and 2016, clinched their berths today after fellow contender Sam Querrey lost in the first round of the Erste Bank Open 500 in Vienna.     The four tennis ‘grand slams’ are iconic global sports competitions and, as proven by the 2017 Australian Open, capable of drawing blockbuster audiences. Roger Federer’s victory over Rafael Nadal brought Eurosport its largest-ever audience for a tennis match with 20.7 million viewers across Europe, while in the host country, the 3.6-million (4.4-million peak) figure was the highest audience for the final in over a decade. The prestige and image attached to grand slam tennis is not lost on the sport’s broadcast partners. For domestic broadcasters this has led to a continuous fee increase for the quartet of slams. Using Sportcal’s Revenue Dashboard – available to subscribers of the Media Intelligence Centre – to analyse the domestic revenue generated, Sportcal Insight examines how the grand slams have enhanced their domestic rights revenues. Currency conversions, where possible, have been done at the time of the deal and modelled data has been used for incremental rises during a rights agreement. All grand slams have long-running domestic deals with established broadcasters. This, it can be argued, limits competition and the potential for mushrooming revenues, resulting in a more modest rise than might otherwise be the case. In Australia, free-to-air network Seven’s most recent deal with Tennis Australia is under investigation by the country’s corporate watchdog because a competitive bidding process wasn’t launched, amid claims that the governing body could have raised an extra A$50 million ($45 million) had the rights been taken to the open market. The 2017 women’s Australian Open final attracted 360,000 more viewers than the final of T20 cricket’s Big Bash League (aired on another free-to-air broadcaster, Network Ten, at the same time).
