N I K O L A S M A X I M I L I A N N Ä G E L E – Conductor Born in 1987 in Radolfzell am Bodensee (Germany), Nikolas Maximilian Nägele graduated in conducting, piano and clarinet from the Hochschule für Musik in Munich and Leipzig. Kapellmeister at Deutsche Oper Berlin since 2017, he has already lead several productions in Berlin including Carmen, Die Zauberflöte, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Die Fledermaus, La traviata and Un ballo in maschera. In 2017 he has been musical assistant of Christian Thielemann for the production of Die Walküre at Salzburg Easter Festival, and in 2018 he was again musical assistant of M° Thielemann for Tristan und Isolde at Bayreuth Festival, where he assisted also Placido Domingo in the musical direction of Die Walküre. In July 2017 he made his debut at Festival della Valle d’Itria di Martina Franca conducting Gianni Schicchi. Till July 2017 he also worked as Pianist and Conductor at the International Young Artist Program of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence. A prize winner of the prestigious “2013 Aspen Festival Conducting Prize” and “2012 James Conlon Conducting Prize”, he worked as assistant conductor at Aspen Music Festival, close to his mentor Robert Spano. In 2014 he made his US debut with Aspen Philharmonic Orchestra conducting Dvořák’s 8th Symphony and Ravel’s G-Major Piano Concerto. Furthermore he was a Finalist in the “2nd International Sir Georg Solti Conducting Competition” of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. While still a student, he worked as Kapellmeister and Repetiteur at the State Theatre of Oldenburg (2013/15), where he conducted works like Il barbiere di Siviglia, La Dame Blanche and Carmina Burana. FORTHCOMING PROJECTS: Il barbiere di Siviglia at Teatro Municipale di Piacenza; concert in Budapest on tour with Rossini Opera Festival; symphonic concerts at Teatro Petruzzelli di Bari; La cenerentola at Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
