National GEOBEE Information (Three Levels of Competition for grades 4-8) Dates:  WIS National GEOBEE Competition Wednesday, January 30, 2019  Top three win a medal and certificate  State Competition Qualifiers are posted on March 4, 2019  State Competition March 29, 2019 (Indianapolis) (This is the Friday during spring break.)  Contestants receive a T-shirt  Champion receives a medal; $1,000 cash award; other prizes  Second and Third place receive $300 and $100 respectively  National Competition May 19-22 ( D.C.)  Up to 100 students may qualify.  National Champ wins $25,000 college scholarship, $1000 cash, other prizes, membership in the Society membership, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.  Second place $10,000 college scholarship; $1,000 cash  Third place $5,000 college scholarship; $1,000 cash  Seven runner-ups will receive $1,000 cash How to Participate:  6-35 WIS students can participate in qualifications.  Qualifications consist of 7 preliminary rounds after school at 3:15pm.  Rounds 1-2 will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2019  Rounds 3-4 will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019  Rounds 5-7 will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2019  The top ten qualifying students will participate in the state qualifying round on Wednesday, Jan. 30th at 3:15 pm at WIS. It is an online test for up to 60 minutes.  In case of emergency and qualifications can’t be held on the 30th, it will be held on the 31st. Preparation: (see the Get Ready for GEOBEE Packet)
