Skerry/National Geographic Image Collection Dear Readers, I’m thrilled to present our new Fall-Winter catalog, featuring titles publishing between July 2020 and February 2021, plus our complete backlist! This list is packed with so many exciting new authors, subjects, and series, it’s difficult to contain the highlights to a single page. PAGE Let’s begin with one of NG Kids Books‘ favorite subjects: STEM. But get ready for a 7 surprise, because this season we’re mixing a little fact-based fiction into the beaker with our new middle-grade series, Izzy Newton and the S.M.A.R.T. Squad, written by the co-creator of the American Girl book series, Valerie Tripp. It’s about an all-girl group of brainy buddies who tackle problems and solve mysteries, using science, technology, engineering, math, and friendship. As with all our fact-based fiction series, a special section of related nonfiction information is in the back of each book. We love the inspiring girl-empowerment message, which also shines through in our PAGE book Girls Can! Filled with stereotype-smashing facts and advice, profiles of 6 remarkable women from across centuries and around the world, and exclusive interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Melinda Gates, and more, this is a must-have, power-packed book. But of course, all kids need to feel informed and empowered, especially when they’re faced with disturbing news reports and confusing commentary. We hope to help kids cut through the clutter, learn to PAGE make knowledgeable decisions, and become engaged citizens with Breaking the 27 News: What’s Real, What’s Not, and Why the Difference Matters. From the serious to the silly, it wouldn’t be a Nat Geo list without Weird But True! This time we take on one of kids’ favorite holidays, with Weird But True! Halloween. Kids will gobble it up faster than you can say “candy corn”! Speaking of favorites, we all know how much kids love animals, but you might be surprised to learn which PAGE are the biggest superstars: sharks! Kids can’t get enough, so we’re giving them 4 1,000 Facts About Sharks. For those who prefer their ocean encounters to be a little less toothy, there’s our gorgeous, family-friendly gift book Beneath the Waves: Celebrating the Ocean Through Pictures, Poems, and Stories. Finally, we are honored to publish an exclusive picture book autobiography by famed NASA mathematician Katherine Johnson and two of her daughters. Illustrated with PAGE original artwork by Charnelle Pinkney Barlow (granddaughter of Caldecott-winning 3 artist Jerry Pinkney) in a unique photo-collage style, One Step Further tells the inspiring true story of Katherine’s early life, her history-making achievements, and her drive to break down gender and racial barriers so that her daughters could reach for the stars. Equally uplifting is the lyrical picture book by Sonia Manzano, otherwise known as Sesame Street’s beloved Maria, who celebrates the beautiful similarities PAGE and differences among all children in A World Together. 12 The books in this catalog truly reflect National Geographic’s enduring promise to bring you the world and all that’s in it, with something to inspire and delight every child!
