While the following abstract summarizes my project’s scholarly contribution, research questions, methods and conclusions, the final project is archived in the Department of History at California State University, Northridge. Mythology has been used for millennia as a means of storytelling. Whether it was for entertainment or for educational purposes, mythology has permeated civilization. Joseph Campbell conducted extensive research into the longevity of mythology and its v universality, but why is it still so prevalent today in popular culture? Hercules is one of the most recognizable mythological figures, at least in western societies, and he still has a strong presence in popular culture today. By peering into some uses of Hercules in popular culture from Victorian England’s Punch Magazine and modern popular culture such as the video game God of War III and the Disney film Hercules, it is possible to identify and analyze the methods used to adapt this character.

The liberal studies program will complement and extend your studio experience, preparing you to better deal with the tumult of an increasingly complex and constantly changing world whose challenges demand self-reflection and creativity. Our graduate programs advance those practices through rigorous, practice-based studies with distinguished faculty. Undergraduates will participate in our Integrated Learning program, collaboratively learning in interdisci- plinary teams in projects that bridge the gap between school and community, neighborhoods and genera- tions, cultures and histories. The presentations, which revealed exclusive news and details about the upcoming live action films, were aided by live and video appearances from talent and filmmakers. Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn hosted the highly anticipated biennial event. “It’s quite something to be able to have Disney, Marvel and Lucasfilm all on the same stage, and it’s tremendously gratifying to unveil our upcoming projects to our most dedicated fans first,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “We always have an incredible time at the D23 EXPO.” After welcoming the crowd to D23 EXPO 2015, Horn introduced Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, and Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, to present overviews of the Marvel Studios and Disney live action slates. Later Horn returned to the stage to present the Lucasfilm film slate to the enthusiastic audience. Iran [email protected] [email protected] Abstract: Every literary narrative (or any form of art) follows some rules or structures that beside its mode of narration are common in all literary forms. In this research, it has been tried to demonstrate another mode of narration and depicting theories of Northrop Frye and Vladimir Propp’s structuralism in a video game named God of War. In this regard, after a very short introduction on structural school, and a short explanation on each of these theories, those structures will be represented in the video game. Frye’s notion of genre analysis will be applied on GOW with a summarized introduction; and then for structure of narrative present study uses Propp’s category of structures. His theory does not include only the narratemes in the story, but in fact beside 31 narratemes, there are still five categories of elements, plus seven character types. The result clearly indicated that video games have the capacity to be analyzed from structural point of view and also these structures were common on genre, characters and elements, too.

    THE SECRETS OF PANGAEA PAINTINGS BY JAMES WALLER THE SECRETS OF PANGAEA PAINTINGS BY JAMES WALLER THE LOFT GALLERY CLONAKILTY 5 JULY - 4 AUGUST 2018 ORIGIN AND MYTH The Secrets of Pangaea is essentially an exploration of the figure in the landscape and marks James Waller’s first foray into large-scale narrative oil painting, a journey inspired, in large part by the Norwegian master Odd Nerdrum, whom he stud- ied with in August and September 2017. The series revolves around two major compositions, The Children of Lir and The Secrets of Pangaea, and includes smaller works created whilst studying in Norway. The starting points for the major compositions are found in Greek and Irish mythology and include figures in states of both dramatic tension and Arcadian repose. The Secrets of Pangaea recalls the Tahitian paintings of Paul Gauguin, Waller’s first love as a young painter. The brooding sense of melancholy and langour, and the playing of music are symbiotic with Gauguin’s world. The approach to tone and colour, however, are very much informed by his immersion in Odd Nerdrum’s work and the Classical figurative approach. Several other pieces, such as Boy and Moon, Reverie and The Song of Pan- gaea are either derived from or studies for Secrets. Where Secrets only tangentially references Greek figures such as Pan and the Mino- taur, The Children of Lir explicitly references the famous Irish tale of the same name. It does not attempt to illustrate the story, but rather presents both bird and human form together, the human figures in a state of transformative tension, the swans in a state of lateral collapse (death?) and purposeful movement.
