Google has shown time and again it disregards user privacy. You must challenge BigBox stores because they externalize costs to the community (healthcare, waste removal, etc). Similarly you must challenge Google, who externalizes creative labor costs in much the same way. It's not a simple issue, but it is there for anyone to see if they look. I'm against bans and excessive government intervention. I'm in favor of (and should be demanding?) government intervention on behalf of the people, which should include smart navigation of this digital economy and it's "opportunities".

No argument that the addition of Google's services would *appear* to increase attractiveness to the creative working class. This may be a good short-term play for Bellingham. But behind the scenes, the impact would be overall negative for the community *if* the Google solution was accepted as a suitable municipal Internet service. Bellingham must negotiate a true opt out, and that will not be available for this early adoption competition.
