Other Contacts Almeida, Belmonte, Castelo Mendo, Castelo Novo, Castelo Rodrigo, Idanha-a-Velha, Linhares da Beira, Marialva, Monsanto, Piódão, Trancoso e Sortelha Website: https://aldeiashistoricasdeportugal.com/ Start Date: 2021-06-05 End Date: 2021-11-06 Between June and November, the cycle "12 em Rede" brings a lot of animation to the Historical Villages with events of various types that include various animations, such as theatrical tours, workshops, new circus, music and gastronomy. And as they are also broadcast by digital means, it will be difficult to have full capacity! Each of the twelve historical villages will host an event that celebrates and promotes its tangible and intangible cultural heritage, involving the community through a genuinely differentiated cultural programme. The culture, gastronomy, traditions, customs, heritage, legends and myths of each of the villages will again be the motto for these events, which will be presented in an outdoor or indoor space of heritage relevance. Although the events are being prepared for the public to attend, selecting venues where access control and adequate sanitation measures can be applied, the focus remains on online broadcasting, which proved to be a success in the previous edition. CRUZIANAGEOPARK NATURTEJO - GEOPARQUE MUNDIAL DA UNESCO - E-Magazine MONTHLY ACTIVITIES July - Archaeological excavations progress on Cabeço da Anta. The Proença-a-Nova 2020 International Archaeological Camp is being held for the first time due to the pandemic, without students and only with the team of archaeologists responsible for the excavations. This team will continue to decipher and explain some details found in previous campaigns, seeking answers to questions raised. Thus, from June 22nd until the end of July, the tapir Cabeço da Anta will continue to be dug in, one of the largest in schist known in the region. In 2019 appeared "the first complete pieces, in ceramic and stone". In addition, "the excavation of a radial trench, in depth and from the center to the periphery of the artificial mound that motivated the toponym Cabeço da Anta, in order to know the vertical structure of the tumulus mound, also had good development although it is not yet completed. This work has revealed so far that the tumulus mound is made almost entirely of clay", explained the archaeologist João Caninas responsible for the research. A structure is also being prepared to allow a safe visit to this monument without prejudice to the continuity of the excavations. "This objective has also been established for the tapir of Cimo do Vale de Alvito, whose funeral chamber is also excavated and recovered with granite prosthesis in the positions from where, over the centuries, the original stones were removed, from which only two remain", adds João Caninas.

Olá/Hola/Ciao/Bonjour/Γειά σου /Hallo/God Dag/Salut/Zdravo/Hello/Ahoj/Helo/Helló/ Hei Geo-stories of our places and people: Monfortinho “Soon from the first hills the views taken from the majestic Spanish mountains of the Central Belt are stunning: the abrupt crest of Gata mountain, imposing wall that suddenly sag to the flat land and, very far, one can guess the huge mass of Gredos mountain. The Beira Baixa borderland comes, in the whole, as a bluegrass region, lost in the isolation, scarcely populated of ancient lands and worn of old uses, recently open to new ways of transit that still did not completely erased yet the typical things and people. Here, even without get to the deep rivers delimiting it, a borderland is guessed, certainly permeable to relations, in any case a place to stop (…). Segregated from the atlantic core of national life, the region was not open too much to the Spanish influence, on the contrary it was obscurely boiling the ancestral Portuguesism. Above the uniformity of the parched plain, of the holm oak assembles and the farming practices, from one and the other side of the deeply river incisions, something spontaneous and tenacious make different those men roasted under the same sun and shaped by the same land: the language and with it everything that makes the deepest of the wish and feel”.

Olá/Hola/Ciao/Bonjour/Γειά σου/Hallo/God Dag/Salut/Zdravo/Hello/Ahoj/Helo/Helló/ Hei The National Geographic Portugal magazine brought the “Portuguese Geopark” to a diverse spectrum of publics and left an interesting feedback published in the site and in September's issue. Locally, August's publication, which included a supplement with a map of the Naturtejo Geopark, sold out in some of the towns in this territory. I would also like to comment on a particularly interesting review published on this month's issue of this magazine, from a local inhabitant, Joana Simões from Castelo Branco. Her very accurate commentary unveils the way how people who live here begin to incorporate the Geopark with enthusiasm and demanding more from what happens in this territory and the way how it is promoted outside of its boundaries: “Your work stepped up to one of the most interesting projects in the interior of Portugal [August]. In the municipalities which constitute the Naturtejo, there is undoubtedly a new approach to the way nature and tourism are perceived, taking advantage of the territory's unique characteristics. However, I would not have used the last picture on this article, in which a shepherd is portrayed with its cattle, symbol of the ancient ways of dealing with the territory.

83 CRUZIANAGEOPARK NATURTEJO DA MESETA MERIDIONAL-EUROPEAN AND GLOBAL GEOPARK - MONTHLY REPORT In this issue: – Watermelon Festival of Ladoeiro sells 40 tons! – Teaching Module on Geoparks tested – Monitoring the network of 35 footpaths in the Geopark – Summer Course “Portuguese Language, Literature and Culture”…and more! Olá/Hola/Ciao/Bonjour/Γειά σου/Hallo/God Dag/Salut/Zdravo/Hello/Ahoj/Helo/Helló/ Hei Geo-stories of our places and people: Malpica do Tejo Fields are tidying up on the gentle descent to the steeply valley of the Tejo river. Malpica do Tejo extends by this gentle slope with wide views over an Alentejo beyond Spain towards south, a Spain beyond Tejo towards East, the Ponsul river on the feet of Castelo Branco towards west and the bland Monforte Hill towards north. There are 246,02km2 of space, lot of space, where olive trees and few more thrive, among this “rye stone”. In the Galisteu estate stands majestic cork tree which, hidden as it is, can't remind the past native forest. The present is the olive tree and the olive tree prevails in the horizons. But International Tejo Natural Park possesses here one of the entrances to this almost wild Tejo valley. In its scarps geologists found some of the most ancient rocks of sedimentary origin existing in Portugal and formally designated them as Malpica do Tejo Formation. To north, already in the Monforte mountain at Sancada, other original sedimentary rocks less old, with 480 million years old, show curious remains of past ways of life. However the most important geological site of Malpica do Tejo is Monte dos Cancelos.
