Angola [ ang-goh-luh ] “Virtus Unita Fortior”

Angola is one the least countries anyone can ever think of visiting while on Safari in Africa and yet it is among the naturally beautiful countries on this continent and prides it’s self in several tourist activities. The natural beauty of Angola is the leading attraction that draws a very large number of holidaymakers every year that range from its cascading Rivers, the powerful waterfalls and the beautiful coastline to the varied landscapes.

The country offers so much to do on a single holiday, and majority of its historical towns are up to today as well as very active; and this can be seen across most parts of the country and holidaymakers will be able to personally encounter some of the remains from the ancient colonial times in Angola. The rich cultural heritage of Angola can also be seen today when you visit its vibrant craft markets that are filled with very colorful items and souvenirs.

Angola still offers a pure and authentic experience for tourists. The decades-long civil war, which ended in 2002, meant that many regions were untouched by people and have been taken back by nature. Till the the years 2017, the Angolan visa was one of the hardest to get around the world. Nurture your adventurous spirit. Far away from mass tourism, you will experience a pristine Africa, not polished for tourists. North of on the way to Caxito lies the bay of Santiago. This beach is as extraordinary as beautiful. What makes this wide sandy beach so special are the many shipwrecks. Some of the wrecks are right on the beach.

Angola Seasonal Highlights

NOV - MAY JUN - OCT

Broadly speaking, Angola has two distinct seasons – rainy and dry. As it’s so huge, there are variations, with the southern coast around Namibe cooler, for instance, averaging 17°C in July. Organised tours focus on the south, where the best time to go is June, July, August and September; our 10 day trip departs annually in July. This is the coolest and driest season, with highs of around 23°C in Luanda in July. November to May is Angola’s hot, rainy season, with April seeing the heaviest downpours and often violent storms. The water that falls now in the Angolan Highlands eventually flows into Botswana to form the Okavango Delta.

The best time of the year to plan a trip to Angola is between June and October. During this time, the weather is quite mild and sunny while the rains and storms have not yet arrived.

For the most part, Angola has only two seasons: dry and wet. The summer months can get a little washed out.

When planning a trip, keep in mind that Angola is an immense country, geographically speaking, and so the weather can vary from place to place.

Along the coast (which also includes the southern part of the Cabinda province), the climate is desert (but mild) in the southern part, semi-desert in the central part (where the capital, Luanda, is located), and semiarid in the northern part, where rainfall exceeds 500 mm (20 in) per year.

Although there’s little rain, fog, mists and low clouds are common, especially in winter, ie from June to October in the south (see Namibe) and from July to October in Luanda. In the north, in Cabinda, there’s not much sun, in fact, in winter, there are fogs and mists, while in the rainy season, which here begins to be substantial and runs from late October to early May, the sky is often cloudy. The average temperature is higher in the northern part of the coast, which is closer to the Equator in Cabinda, it reaches a maximum of 26 °C (79 °F) from February to April and a minimum of 21 °C (70 °F) in July; in Luanda, it’s around 26 °C (79 °F) from February to April and around 20 °C (68 °F) in July and August.

Angola Angola Places of Interest IN ANGOLA

Ilha do Mussulo (Island of Mussulo) If you think Luanda was blessed by the Island of Lu- anda wait until you hear about Mussulo! In the southern outskirts of Luanda, Mussulo is a 30 km long tongue of land/sand. The water is even warmer than in the rest of Angola and without waves, so it creates a huge lagoon- like environment in the sea. To go there you should get a boat from “mainland”. Mussulo is so close to Luanda’s chaos, but you have a completely different and chilled vibe there. If you are vis- iting Luanda you must come here. Just perfect to relax under the sun and forget about the day to day problems for a few hours or a weekend. It is, of course, beautiful with a long beach, warm seawater, palm trees…

Tundavala Gap

The Tundavala Gap is the main natural and geological attraction of the Huíla province. This awe-inspiring abyss near is located right at the rim of the Serra da Leba mountain range. From here onwards, Angola’s Central Plateau abruptly drops from over 2 kilometres high to just 1 km, takes on a curious wave-like form and extends westwards towards the Namibe beaches.

Serra da Leba Legend has it that the Serra da Leba pass is named after a Portuguese woman who designed and built the road, who died after she viewed it on the very day the project was finished. Serra de Leba is a great place to be for those who love mountains and hiking experiences. You will find this mountain in the Huila province of Angola. It gets to 1.845 meters in height and offers a breath-taking view once you climb on top of it. But even if you don’t want to conquer this entire mountain, you can admire the region that it is at and the amazing plants that you might discover.
