No fat quarters will be cut during the sale. Dear Friends, We hope everyone is ready for Summer. We have a lot of exciting new classes coming up. We have thirteen new collections of fabric coming in the month of May and twelve in June. We got a little carried away with all the beautiful new fabric lines that are coming out. The WV Mountain Quilt Quest is June 19th thru 22nd. It is a celebration of Famous WV Women. In July we have our 13th Birthday. Stay tuned for more news about our celebration and a gift from us that will last all year. In August we have our DIME Event for Machine Embroiderers. We are excited about this, the topic for their new event is lace. September 7th we have our annual Pillow Case Party at Sacred Heart Church. We have made over 2,000 pillow cases so far at this party. We hope to add another 500 this year. On a sad note, January 18th we lost our beloved Mamie Cole. She came to us twelve years ago and asked if she could help at the shop to keep herself busy. Well we kept her busy. She packed kits, labeled bags and worked the front table at all our events. She affectionately became known as the "boss". We will always miss her and she will never be forgotten. Many classes require a sewing or embroidery machine; please let us know if you would like to use one of ours. Class fee is due when you register. You can sign up at the store, by phone or e-mail. If registering over the phone or e-mail, you must have a valid credit card. Receipts and class supply lists will be mailed to you. Full refunds on class fee will be given if you cancel seven days in advance. After that, a 50% refund will be given provided you give us 24 hours’ notice. If you do not attend a class and we are not given 24 hours' notice, there will be no refund or rescheduling of your class. Classes may be cancelled if Cabell County schools are closed for snow or ice (please call ahead and use your own judgment in inclement weather). If we cancel classes, they will be rescheduled or class fee refunded. Stop by the store to register for your class. Please be considerate of your teacher and fellow classmates who may have allergies – refrain from wearing scented lotions and perfumes. Please have your fabric and supplies purchased before the beginning time of your class. This is very important because if you wait until time of your class, you put the instructor and other students behind. Classes Beginning Quilting - If you are someone who has always wanted to learn to quilt, this is the class for you. It is also great for someone who needs a refresher on cutting and piecing techniques. Instructor Eileen Farren. Three sessions: Saturdays May 18th and June 1st and 8th 10:00-- 3:00. Class Limit: 4. Class fee: $30.00 Braided Twist. - The newest pattern from Phillips Fiber Arts. Make this beautiful table runner. Instructor: JoAnn Gwinn. One Session: Tuesday May 21st 10:00- 2:00 or Thursday July 11th 5:00- 8:00. Cost is $20.00 Class Limit: 6 Tuffet Topper - Make a new cover for your existing Tuffet. Great way to change it to match new decor or for different holidays. Class Fee: $20.00 Hand Quilting - If you have always wanted to learn to hand quilt, this is the class for you. Tammy is an unbelievable hand quilter and a great teacher. This year we will be using pre-printed quilt blocks. They are available at the store. Instructor: Tammy Barnett One session: Thursday August 8th 5:00-8:00 or Tuesday August 27th 10:00-1:00 Cost: $20.00 Class fee includes spool of thread and starter pack of between needles. Class Limit: 6 Sunbonnet Sue - Summer: Our Hand Appliqué class. This adorable little Sunbonnet Sue makes a great wall hanging or pillow. Great beginning class. Two Sessions Tuesdays July 9th and 16th 5:00-8:00 or Saturdays July 20th and 27th 10:00-2:00 Class Limit: 6 Class Fee $25.00 Take a Stand: Stand up tote that can be used for your quilting supplies, makeup or just about anything. Instructor: Rhonda Ray 2 sessions. Wednesdays July 17th and 24th10:00-2:00 or One Session Saturday August 24th 10:00-3:00 Class Limit: 6 Class Fee: $25. Necessary Wallet: - Make this great wallet. Lots of spaces for all your cards. Use some cork to highlight your fabric. Cork is the newest trend in quilting. Sandy is making a few changes to this class and adding some new techniques. Class Limit: 4 Class Fee: $25.00 West Virginia Mountain Quilt Quest Shop Hop Wednesday June 19th thru 22nd. Seven shops throughout WV celebrating the Famous Women of WV. Visit all the shops and receive a special gift. Sip & Stitch Every Thursday from 10:00-2:00 This is a great time to meet fellow quilters and work on projects you just can't seem to get to at home. Pillow Case Party Saturday September 7th Sacred Heart Catholic Church 9:00-2:00 We have donated over 2,000 pillowcases to area hospitals in the last few year. Come help us make even more. Fabric is provided. We need sewers, pinners, ironers and turners. Lunch is provided. Urbanologie BOM Meeting the 4th Monday of every month starting on June 24th. Class Fee: $10.00 per month. You will need to purchase the pattern and background fabric from Sew Many Blessings. Then you can use scraps for the rest of the quilt. Solaris/Destiny Class Come learn some of the wonderful things your Solaris and Destiny can do. Sandy will be guiding through all the cool new things these machines will do. This is a demonstration/lecture class. You do not have to bring your machine. Tuesday June 4th 10:00-2:00 Class Limit: 10 Class Fee: $10:00 Embroidery Club Embroidery Club Instructor: Sandy Sheffield The Embroidery Club meets once a month to learn new techniques and ideas on machine embroidery. Since the classes have become large, registration is now required to hold your spot. Classes will be limited. Be sure to sign up early so we will have ample time to provide enough kits for some of the projects. The club is held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:00-12:30, 1:30 –4:00 or from 5:30 – 8:00.

Katie Barnaby, Sherry Haefele, Cyndi Slothower, Merrie Wilent, and Linda VanNederynen remember. We five decided that we couldn’t live in a town with no quilt shop, and we were going to do something about it. We began meeting. Our first group decision about our new shop was that we would have a toy box; we had 15 small children among us. We also decided we would be open on Sundays as that was the day we were able to take some personal time to shop. The attorney who helped us craft our partnership agreement later told us he didn’t expect a business run by five women to last more than a year. We rented a 700 square foot space at Community Corners in Ithaca and began to fill it with fabric that made us swoon. Classes were difficult to offer in that tiny space, so we added a dedicated space to teach. We remember it as hot and difficult to carry machines up a steep flight of stairs to the classroom. Next we moved to a larger space in the same small shopping center. We added Pfaff sewing machines to our offerings. Sherry retired after 8 years. Some while later, we expanded into the shop next door, then another behind, until we had 2,000 square feet. It still wasn’t enough.

We are very excited about our new classes beginning this month. We have several new techniques and are revisiting a few old favorites. We are attending Sewposium of the second time. This is a conference for shop owners only. We got a lot of new ideas here last year and from the brochure we know we will come back with several new ones this year. We will be doing the Mystery Quilt again starting in March. We had over 25 people do this quilt last year. Only the sixty shops that attend Sewposium have the pattern. Scott This ethnographic dissertation focuses on the impact of inside and outside learning spaces on the discourse of rural, Appalachian fifth grade children during a five month period. Outside discourse was especially examined during a month-long stream-monitoring unit. The project also focused on how the children‘s Appalachian culture influenced their discourse. The theoretical framework of this study was social constructivism. Data for this sociocultural project was gathered through field notes, audiotapes, and informal student interviews with selected students. Secondary data included photographs of the children and the places where the conversations occurred during the data collection in addition to family photographs of the children or family members in or near streams.
