DEBORAH COMPAGNONI, A SLOPE WITH A CHAMPION’S NAME ! The most famous slope in Santa Caterina has the name of Deborah Compagnoni, the famous champion who was born there. It was created on the occasion of the World Ski Championships hosted in Bormio in 2005 as part of the women's races. Deborah Compagnoni is the first athlete in the history of to win a gold medal in three different editions of the Winter and has always been proud of her origins. ! Despite two serious cruciate ligaments injuries, Deborah Compagnoni is the Italian skier with the highest number of well-deserved victories in the history of skiing. During the years when she was able to show her amazing talent and class, the girl from Santa Caterina Valfurva dominated the international scene and, in particular, the scene of : from 1994 to 1998 she won all the available gold medals in the Olympic Games and World Championships. ! The emotions felt by the Deborah Compagnoni fans are full of adrenaline and are the same emotions that can be found on the Santa Caterina Valfurva slope, the "most amusing slope in the Alps." ! !Characteristics of the race track Start: 2690 m Arrival: 1745 m Vertical Drop: 945 m Length: 3100 m ! !Characteristics of the Deborah Compagnoni slope The slope starts at a heigh of 2775 m (Mount Sobretta) and after a vertical drop of more than 1000 meters and over 4 km of pure snow, the slope takes you to the town (1730 m). The beginning of the slope looks like a narrow path surrounded by rocks, a rather tight passage, but not too steep. Just a couple of switchbacks and the track turns left: that's where the real challenge begins (with a series of really amusing parts!). The area near the skilift Plaghera precedes a less steep part that gives you a little breath. This is where the great speed champions will see the most amazing panorama! The track continues in the woods, with sometimes very challenging parts until the finish line. !

ALTA VALTELLINA, A LAND OF GREAT SKIING Valtellina has always been synonym with great skiing. Just think about the history of two legendary slopes such as Stelvio in Bormio and Deborah Compagnoni in Santa Caterina Valfurva, the theatre of this year's Men's Downhill World Cup race. The Stelvio slope was inaugurated in 1982 on the occasion of the first edition of the World Series. But the real debut of Stelvio slope coincided with the highly successful World Ski Championships of 1985. It kept hosting major perfectly organized events that made it win the World Cup again in 2005. The Santa Caterina Valfurva slope was inaugurated on that occasion, to host the women's alpine skiing races, full of great emotions. The slope is named after Deborah Compagnoni, the famous champion from the !town. In order to understand the value of the Valtellina event you just need to take a look at the list of the World Cup winners – starting with two champions who have made the history of skiing: the introvert and acrobatic Bode Miller (gold in downhill and super-G) and the unbeatable Hermann Maier, the Terminator who won the giant race. Another phenomenon of those years is the Austrian , who won the slalom and combined. Among the women, only the queens of individual specialties won the most important medal: the Croatian Janica Kostelić (gold in combined, slalom and downhill,) and the Swedish Anja Pärson. Things for the “azzurri” went much better than twenty years before: they had the memorable silver medals won by Lucia !Recchia in super-G and Elena Fanchini in downhill. In March 2008, the show comes back to Alta Valtellina, on the occasion of the second edition of the FIS World Cup Finals. The alpine skiing events takes place in Bormio - as always - while cross country athletes race in Santa Caterina Valfurva and snowboarders on the slopes of the !Valmalenco. Back to alpine skiing. The history of the Deborah Compagnoni is full of events, and that confirms it is a technical slope. Starting from its inauguration 2005 until now, more than 50 FIS (and other circuits) races took place on this slope, which is located along meadows and woods. In spring 2014 Santa Caterina Valfurva hosted the Downhill and SuperG Italian Championship. In 2012 it hosted both the European Cup men's super-G race that had to take place in Reiteralm (on the podium the Austrian Florian Scheiber, followed by the Italian and the German Josef Ferstl) and in Altenmarkt Zauchense (the best "Azzurri" were Luca De Aliprandini 7th place and 10th place). Big names and big events that once again confirm that the Deborah Compagnoni slope must not be underestimated. It must be remembered too that it is !the only always available slope in Lombardia for downhill training and fast disciplines. !The racing tradition of Alta Valtellina has no end .... because it is a land of skiing. ! ! ! !

SANTA CATERINA VALFURVA Santa Caterina is located in the heart of the Stelvio National Park, just 12 kilometers from Bormio. The favorable location, the climate and an advanced snowmaking system guarantees perfect slopes from late November to April. For sure, the best known is the Deborah Compagnoni, inaugurated in 2005 on the occasion of the World Ski Championships. The track is !equipped with a modern lighting system: strong emotions are guaranteed at night too! Santa Caterina Valfurva is well known not only for its ski area but also for its history, which has always followed the fate of the "Magnifica Terra", the small ancient republic of Bormio who was !able to maintain and increase its business over the centuries. Starting with the seventeenth century. Santa Caterina Valfurva became a popular thermal resort thanks to the ferruginous waters discovered by Don Baldassare Bellotti. The sources are two: one rich in sulfur, and the other one with "akua forta", rich in iron and with a sour and spicy taste.
