PROGRAMMKINO, NYMPHENBURGER STRASSE 31, TEL. (089) 55 52 55 (U1 STIGLMAIERPLATZ) MITGLIED DER GILDE DEUTSCHER FILMKUNSTTHEATER UND DER ARBEITSGEMEINSCHAFT KINO Monuments Men e (D: ; Cast: George Clooney, , Cate Blan- chett, John Goodman, ) Based on the true story of the greatest treasure hunt in history, this art caper film focuses on an un- likely World War II platoon, tasked with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces before they are destroyed by the Nazi army. How- ever, as these Monuments Men, as they were called, weren’t soldiers but museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 - how could they possibly hope to succeed? In a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements. Successful actor/director George Clooney has gathered a fantastic cast to tell an engaging and highly entertaining story with the zing, energy and funny dialogue of »Ocean’s 11«.

300 - Rise of an Empire e (D: Noam Murro; Cast: Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro, , Lena Headey) Based on ’s (»Sin City«) latest graphic novel »Xerxes« and told in the breathtaking visual style of the 2007 blockbuster »300«, this new chapter of the epic saga takes the action to a fresh battlefield-on the sea as Greek general Themistokles (Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. The exhilarating and long anticipat- ed sequel pits Themistokles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Santoro), and Artemisia (Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy. Relentless in its recreation of ancient battles, the sequel is again a visually thrilling and viscerally satisfying experience, full of gore, blood and violence.

Saving Mr. Banks e (D: ; Cast: , , , ) Two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson and fellow double Oscar-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s unex- pectedly tender film inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic »Mary Poppins« made it to the big screen. In his quest to obtain the rights to make a movie of P.L. Travers’ »Mary Poppins«, Walt Disney comes up against a stubborn writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But as money grows short and Travers reluc- tantly agrees to hear Disney’s plans for adaptation, Disney launches an all-out on-slaught on Travers to discover the truth about the ghosts that haunt her and set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.

Grand Budapest Hotel e (D: ; Cast: , , , Owen Wilson, , Bill Murray) Wes Anderson’s (»The Royal Tenenbaums«, »Fantastic Mr. Fox«) follow-up to »Moonrise Kingdom« stars (»Harry Potter«, »The English Pa- tient«) as M. Gustave, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars. Together with the lobby boy, who becomes his most trusted friend, Gustave becomes suspected of murder and gets caught up in a battle for a family fortune and the theft and recovery of a priceless Renaissance painting, the perfectly titled Boy with Ap- ple. The highly anticipated fantastical period comedy boasts an almost never-ending list of star-studded names playing the usually quirky and eccentric characters and is Anderson’s most visually pleasing movie to date.

August: Osage County e (Im August in Osage County) (D: ; Cast: , , Ewan McGregor, , Benedict Cumberbatch) This affecting family drama based on the successful Broadway play tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston fam- ily, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Based on the play that was the winner of five Tony Awards in 2008, including Best Play, this engaging drama is filled with terrific dialogue as well as brilliant, award-worthy performances by its talented ensemble cast.
